@2fallon I have seen The Sopranos like 7 times, all six seasons and I have seen a lot of Gandolfini's work. I don't spot Tony Soprano in any other Gandolfini's roles. I think you can spot a good actor from that.
after watching all of this it kinda seemed that James Gandolfini wasn't really feelin the interview..it was almost like hes TOO DEEP FOR James Lipton and Inside the actors studio.. He was speaking truth about his hard working parents and the 9 - 5 people getting screwed over and he wanted to represent that in film. But People are praising more for his violent scene then for his over all artistic acting abilities.
Gandolfini is a great fuckin actor, The Sopranos wouldnt be what it is without him, and he comes across as an intelligent, well rounded and moral human being and he's the greatest tv actor to ever live FACT
James Gandolfini is a great actor who has played some great parts. The Sopranos is fantastic. I don't know who the interviewer is, but he is one hell of a boring individual. He asks James the questions like he is not remotely interested in what James has to say.
The first time i saw James Gandolfini, it was as the great Tony Soprano. And now... every scene i see him act, in another movie, all i see is Tony Soprano in differente clothes and with a beard hehe.. i just cant stop thinkin im watching a scene from the soprano's.. thats how good an impression this guy made uppon me.
I like The Sopranos and respect everything about it, but this guy isn't a very good "actor". He's what you'd call a "character actor" in that he just acts himself. It just so happens that his own acting suited the role of Tony S so much.. but anything else he stars in is basically Tony S and not another character.
Without starting a war - that's what "good" acting is. Making a character believable and authentic. Parts of Method acting and Meisner technique teach the actor a two-fold technique; where you leave the conscious mind behind you and use your subconscious to guide you, while using your own feelings and past experience to indicate a "real" situation. I think James Gandolfini is true to himself and a very moving and interesting actor. Albeit a character actor, He's still very good!
@MrDenizen character Tony Soprano is a lot more than you're saying. it's a very complex, rich character and hard to play. it's gotta be played by actor with big capacitiy, and James Gandolfini has that capacity. he isn't just ''character actor'', Tony Sirico is character actor. Gandolfini is more closer to Pacino or De Niro.
the best mental image ive ever had is from the cameron diaz stock, when she talks about seeing will ferrell chase james lipton down the street in hollywood.
all the chicks wanna jump him...all of them playing with their hair and shit...they see a guy that personifies a dangerous alpha male and the sun rises in their vagina. HOOAH!!! Im gonna take a shit now.
you know if I had the chance to be someone else (which I hate people saying) it would be Ray Liotta, or James.
I fucking love the both of em. :)
My fav actos in the sopranos where the side kicks though. Like Palie Walnuts and Bobby. They where the best, becuase they sound and speak like that in real life :D
Yeah I read online that he was quite heavily involved with the Gambinos or some other one of the "five families" as it were.
It was the same with the guy who played Luca Brasi, he played a hitman in The Godfather, but in real life he was also an enforcer/hitman, but he was trying to leave the lifestyle.
i love gandoflfini with a passion, but in every role i've ever seen him, he could easily be tony soprano in another enviroment, i dont think he could ever play certain roles, his anger plays a large part in his acting even as a homosexual he's also a gangster, but still hes the best at what he does
sorry man but i disagree-when you become basically an icon for a role like that, it becomes EXTREMELY difficult to get any other type of role. Its called typecasting and it happens to almost all actors at one point or another. Not only did he play tony perfect, but he did it for 6 YEARS. It reaches a point careerwise where people only want to see you play a certain role and thats what they expect. I personally believe that his versatily has also been limited due to his physical appearance.
yes he has, he has more or less played a hitman or some other variant of that in almost every major role-but what im saying is people who have his appearance as opposed to that of a deniro or pacino "average guy" sort of look is that you become limited in how you are cast. There isnt anything that can be done with anyone who is typecast- in a sense it is sort of their appeal and what gets them work-but unfortunately in cases like this i believe it does more harm than good
all i'm saying is there is certain roles i could not see him playing and when you see something like the mexican it is just like watching tony soprano it's very surreal to see, but he's one of my favourite actors and as a man he seems real humble and not a publicity whore like 99% of other actors, like i say nobody could have played tony soprano like him, i once heared that chase wanted ray liotta, i dont think the show would have been the hit it was if liotta was there, james has so much more
the taking of pelham 123 would have been fantastic if hollywood had casted him in denzel's part. he would have been perfect. hes the most amazing screen presence i have witnessed so far. i've never seen anyone completely embody every emotion possible for an entire 6 1/2 season run of a show
The reason women go crazy for a guy like Tony Soprano is that their pussies tingle with powerful lust at the sight of a badboy alpha male. Tony is strong, powerful, brash, loud, completely untimid, and a dangerous high-status male.
I've watched 20 or so of these now, thanks to the generosity of the people that post them. Is it my imagination, or are the women in the audience, especially the questioners at the end, significantly better-looking than you usually see in this series? Even Susan Aston, the faculty member, is a major babe. (Why am I surprised? T always got da best lookin' broads...)
haha... I noticed the exact same thing... if you've seen a lot of these the women for some reason usually are not that attractive, but on this one, like every one they showed or that asked a question was pretty hot... interesting
AWESOME "PLAYLIST"!

Yeah, he was wicked. He was himself to be honest, its the way he speaks in real life. His style was the best.
What amazes me is that his an "actor" which I find hard to belive. I think he was a ex-mafiso or something... He just dosn't act... He does it.

O wow, first time I heard that. He also played in the movie "Gotti" and "Boss of Bosses" (T.V movies, but very good)
In the Gotti film, he was the one that took out Gambino.
CubeLuda 1 year ago
ah right, might have a look for them in town :)
just found an interesting (probably intentional) twist with The Sopranos and Goodfellas (which he was also in)
In Goodfellas, he plays a mobster called Tony and reports to a boss called Paulie, and in The Sopranos, he plays Paulie and reports to Tony lol
CashForGash 1 year ago
ahaha! :D :D
Yeah, you can watch Boss of Bosses online, so you can with Gotti.
If you want the links, I can send em to you.
