  • that was a very impressive landslide. was this due to the deforestation of the mountain? hope no one was on that road when the slide occured. Looked like there were homes buried towards the back? Nature sure can go where ever it wants to!! haha! Great Video I thank you for sharing it w/us 'n I gave it a 5 Star Rating..! ~,,,/

  • I was a flagger on the Nile Valley Landslide, I still don't know what the DOT will be doing with the highway but long after the detour was built they still have their equipment there studying and monitoring all activitieso where the landslide happened.

  • I am not picking up that spill ! I don't care what lane or isle it is in!

  • not volcanic activity, if you know washington, it has been raining alot for the last 4 or 5 days and the sold got drenched. this actually happens quite often, just usually not on hwys and roads.

  • there wasnt any rain when the slide happened, NOT volcanic activity because its nowhere near any of the volcanoes in cascade mts. it was in e wash.

  • my grandma live there and she says its cause of a guy thats drilling and he just did it to much and noow hes gettin sued

  • zawes12, no thats not what happend eather. this spot has accualy slid many times over MANY years. These things just happen. And it mite happen agian from the looks of it. It is all a very unstable hill side. I do live in Yakima, and unlike most i accualy say it on my page. I have had to help out because many people I know live up there, and needed help. I also know many people at Granet and have walked up to the slide.

There was no rain, or any cause from someone els. Just happens.

  • I bet it has to do with volcanic activity.

  • holy gosh! i wonder when the road will be rebuilt, and why this slide hasn't happened earlier... something else

  • they might as well just build a road right on top of that.

  • I live in Yakima, which is about 30 miles from where this happened. I travel that highway every summer to go camping. In fact, my turn off was the Nile Road, which was damaged due to the river changing course. My grandfather has been deceased for 8 years, but when he was alive he would drive this stretch of highway every year to take me camping. It's so sad, and my heart goes out to the people that lost their homes. Mother nature can be a bitch sometimes.

  • Has this landslide made national news? It's pretty amazing.
