That seemed a peaceful protest and the protesters didn't seem to be blocking a busy road, so why don't the authorities let the protestors make their point? Or is Iceland now a police state...
Police state? In the US, they would have been tazered and maced within the first 13 seconds! The police use the legal Icelandic police use-of-force-continuum:
Welfare swindle? That is a RED HERRING designed to blame the victim...Its more like
.banker/IMF swindle!!
The bankers' strategy is to get everyone in debt through easy money.... then they contract the money supply so that they they can foreclose-- grabbing private property and public sector property under the guise of "privatization" and IMF austerity... WAKE UP... Its a racket to steal Iceland's oil, gold and property... WAKE UP TO THE NEW WORLD ORDER.. READ JOHN PERKINS; ECONOMIC HITMAN.
I say for myself that I will never fall into illusion of believing this crap that I owe money as an Icelander. I have not signed anything and I will not pay anything. It is an illusion. Iceland has never been in a better position in this world with all our natural resources. WE WILL NOT BE FOOLED INTO PAYING ICESAVE. GO BACK TO HE HOLE YOU CRAWLED FROM YOU FILTHY GREEDY BANKERS.
Reality have hit Iceland and will soon enough also hit the unsustainable european welfare states. The welfare swindle have come to an end. Something can't come from nothing, and politicians don't know what to do. They tried to inflate to keep the system afloat, leaving their people in debt, and as if that was not enough they try to reinflate. This is coming crashing down sooner than we think. Riots in Europe to follow. More socialism is NOT the answer.
Very professional police reaction. In most countries all the roadhuggers would be wiped away by watercannon, C4 and rubber batons.

Police state? In the US, they would have been tazered and maced within the first 13 seconds! The police use the legal Icelandic police use-of-force-continuum:
a) Requests/negotiation
b) Orders
c) Soft hands
That's all they need.
The rest would be:
d) Hard hands (locks, gripping, twisting)
e) Handcuffs
f) Pepper spray
g) Batons
