@deluxer911@deluxer911@deluxer911 You have to landing into the wind pretty much, landing with a tail wind there from other direction would slam you into the mountain where this lot are standing.. also a tail wind can push you down the runway .. also if you have to To/GA coming in the other way.. you are climbing out with a large hill infront of you... Plus by 0:25 i would have been like
Saint Barth is one of the most difficult airport in the West Indies with Sabba Island, in fact pilots need a special training to land there! You better have a strong stomach landing there, it's like felling down on the last second of the approach... It is not uncommon to see planes ending up on the sea or on the beach of St Jean right next to it, it's also a great show seating on the top of Gustavia Road, where planes are flying 10 feets over the cars before ducking onto the so short runaway!
Number one i would of gone around! and number two if i was ever in that situation my life would of flashed before me lol i was so scared just watching this!
As soon as he passed the threashold he should have simply advanced the throttles, did a touch and go and go around. Obviously he never attemted this runway before. Bad rookie mistake
@check6ii I'd go around even earlier. Before touch down. Even if its my first landing at this airstrip. As a pilot he should have common sense and responsibility to always be 100%...
Powered down with the intention of stopping when he should've been thinking about powering back up & getting the fuck outta Dodge. Must've been drunk like most other pilots ;o)
@tn66367 Each of the stripes, and blank spaces down the middle are 100 feet long.
Basically, he touched down with 600 feet of pavement in front of him, probably at around 80 mph
The big white rectangles are called "aiming point markers", the pilot should be able to just see those out the front window, when his wheels touch the ground. (I mean the markers on the 10 side)
This airport requires a special certificate to fly into. There is no go around for this airport because of how it lies in the mountains. The way he came in is the same way he would have to go out. Notice there are no touchdown marks on the runway where he ended. Mistakes happen and this is an example. Happy flying!
@spryguy2008 If you can take off of a runway you can do a go around off that run way also it is a non precision runway which means the IAP has a missed approach procedure off of it
@222airplane2222 He meant that he couldn't "go around" facing the direction he was facing but rather the opposite one. I am not familiar with this airport but it sure is a tricky approach.
Landings are nothing but controlled crashes. Pilot's saying: A good landing is one you can walk away from. So it is a good landing after all. He did seem to be going way too fast. Dont know what that was about... Too bad for the aircraft
dude, he shouldve aborted landing BEFORE he hit the ground, i mean, that runways short, and he was still in the air when he's halfway through the runway. he should know that hes not gona stop in time.
I have no idea why this guy didn't go missed approach. I mean - it's a nightmarish approach and all, so I can understand why he didn't want to have to do it again, but the plane may well be totaled; it had to have been seriously (and expensively) damaged, at the very least.
Don't you want to come in for the approach from the other side of the airport? Cause at least you have a hill on the other side so you don't do something stupid like go in the water like this guy.....
@Wako098 check the windsock. The wind is quite strong for an approach from the other side. Not mentioning that the ATC usually dislike when you don't follow their commands :)
@8literbeater Clearly, you are a moron who doesn't know what he is talking about. If you're going into strong winds in an aircraft like that, you want 1/2 throttle or more.
@Wako098 That's hilarious! You're rude but I'm glad you're interested in aviation. I'll tell you what, the next time you're in the Phoenix area, send me a message and let me know. I'll take you up for an hour or so and let you get some time in the seat. No charge. You have my word on it.
But seriously, stop with the spewing on the internet, you're making yourself look bad. Two ears to listen with, only one mouth to talk with. Listen twice as much as talking, it's good for the mind.
@robbynelson3 his approach wasnt to high, he was going to fast for saint barthelemy. Its already a hard airport to land at when you've got no wind that comes into factor. He just wasnt thinking when he actually decided to continue the landing when he reached past the final threshold landing marker.
three main issues energy management - approach possibly too high and too fast, then aeronautical decision making, landing should be aborted if the remaining rwy distance is not suffiicient, then situational aware ness - pilo should have seen that landing in the touch down zone in the departure side of the runway is not allowed as it leads to this result - however at times even good pilots kind of have a bad day and one inappropriate decision can have severe consequencies (saftey first)
My observations... I 10000000% agree with what s said, right from the Getgo, his approach looked way to high and resulted in to fast as well, and it was a poor decision to follow through with the landing since he hadn't made the runway in time. Overall very poor decision making was the key factor here.
Diablos bajo demasiado rapido, y al momento de reestablecer, planeo mas de la mitad de la pista... eso debio ser un touch and go... no un landing... quiza estaba borracho...
to all you pilots out there, this is when you make the decision to make a MISSED APPROACH!!!! esp after floating down more than half of the runway!!!!
@ Nnexxxx.....lol.....not the runways fault, the pilot clearly had to much airspeed. It appears that he was in a hurry to land and under estimated the headwind and at the same time came in to fast.
St Barts, Caribbean. This is an airport where pilots must have a special licence to land. One of the most difficult because of the little hill before the runway. By the way I agree with the most of you. Too fast
wow, I'm not a person who has flown and wants to be a fag to everyone about their landing, but from the beginning, I would want to abort. Couldn't really tell how much speed he had by the time he had reached the beginning of the runway, but it looked like enough to abort with. Either way, good job throwing it to the side, it would have been really fun towing out a salt-watered twin engine aircraft.
That's a steep approach with that terrain, and a very short strip! I would have come on low and slow from the other end, unless the winds were strong.
