one of my all time faves does any one remember allnighters at newton aycliffe youth club 2 rooms like the casino i spent my youth in mr ms best nights of my life
omg I cannot believe you're all still bickerin about all this stuff after nearly 40 yrs. I went to both the casino and the mecca and loved them both. Just be grateful you were a part of the scene and we have these amazing records to listen to still.
This record has to have one of the best intros.....ever!!....superlative heart wrenching vocals...which even now make my hair stand on end....our scene is awash with gems like this...but for me this is one of my top ten....and i never tire of hearing it...Dave from York longing for Soul in the Sun!
This was and always will be a Blackpool mecca discovery...picked up by wigan a long time after.....now claiming to be a wigan tune haha dont think so Philistines
Hey, 'bigmouthfromwigan' the VoEH was played at Station Rd. (and Cleethorpes) long after the Mecca had already dropped it from the playlist. This is easily confirmed by live tapes and published playlists from the time.
Nonsense! I think you'll find it was played at the forward-looking Blackpool Mecca long before the luddites in Wigan (who banned new stuff) decided to cash in on the act. Please forgive the pun.

what a load of shite typical blackpool fudge packer soul boy comment.i worked at wigan, never went to the mecca (only on the free coach to get a lift to blackpool),so how do i know and love this record ?answer me that mr nissan bandwagon
@pressha11 Since I see you were, apparently only 15 in 1975 (when the VoEH was first aired), I don't think you are really in a position to comment.
I suggest you read up on the music scene you profess to be so knowledgeable about, before making a complete dick of yourself in public. (However, since ex-Wiganites have made a habit of making dicks of themselves on Youtube on a fairly regular basis, I realise this may be something of a forlorn hope...)
Blackpool Mecca was so ahead of the game by 1975. Bobby Hutton, Bits n' Pieces, Deniece Chandler (aka Williams), George Benson, Earth, Wind & Fire's "Happy Feelin" alongside this Soul gem and many more. What a playlist! - and this record gets even better the older it gets! - Amazing.
coudnt agree more : and I was 8 when this was released . Memories of cousins returning from the Mecca with tales of all the new release material being previewed -it influenced my take on what Northern Soul should be all about
@drwhatson there you go again why do you hate wigan so much, i feel so sorry that you never enjoyed real northern soul, never mind maybe in the next life
@bigunfromwigan It so happens that I was into "real" Northern Soul before it even had a name, while you were probably still bopping around to the Bay City Rollers in your nappies (which actually ain't all that different to what was later going on at Wigan C.1975 thanks to you lot of wankers!) I still retain a considerable collection of original Northern 45s, but I despise the damage Wigan did to the scene's credibility, and I'm far from alone believe me.
@drwhatson mecca may have had the more modern sounds at the time, but, it will NEVER be recognised as the "jewel in the crown" as far as Northern Soul is concerned their is only one winner and rightly or wrongly it is the true home of NORTHERN SOUL.... WIGAN CASINO

The Voices of East Harlem were a miracle in sound and love!
As I re-listen to their tracks years after their heyday I am amazed
that they garnered so little major attention although the critical
reviews were good.
Anyway, thank you VOEH, for your beauty and love and spirit!
If any of you are out there and happen to read, this God bless you!

@bigunfromwigan You're so dumb... and there's no disguising it.
I'm not Richard Searling, but he's told me personally that even he's ashamed about what went on at Wigan. (True)
