Too many trainers, with their naff ideals... Dogs and Babies have played around since the dawn of time..our ancestors never read anything other than what it was into it
Dont want to ruin the party, but your dog is just showing dominance, its saying this human is mine, of course he is careful but is not a good thing for a dog to do to put the paw on a human and leave it there, that's possession as well as licking is how the mother shows dominance in nature for dogs
@allyzmac - the dog is not "showing dominance." Dogs put their paws on humans for many reasons. It can be an affiliative behavior, an attention-seeking behavior, etc. Please do some research on dominance - you'll find that the vast majority of what you think is dominance is just normal dog behavior.
@St0ryL4nd Why? They're generally not aggressive. I'd be more worried about him playing with a toddler who could run just because the bc might try herding or nipping.
@St0ryL4nd But... that's a baby, not a toddler. The baby isn't running around or doing something that would require herding (from the dog's point of view).
My BC understood what a baby meant didnt matter if it was kittens or humans he had a special behaviour for all babies. Obviously you have to observe the interaction more so that the baby doesnt hurt the dog but my BC was always good with kids he would alter his behaviour for different types of children too my friends little boy was afraid dogs and would get very scared if BC ran up to him with a ball to throw so he would roll the ball to him rather than run up to him.
Ssips720 no not true they need to be exercised and stimulated as extremely intelligent dogs, this owner obviously has taken very good care of their dog and knows him well to trust with baby, what a wonderful video !
@ssips720 Nope. I have a Border Collie. I love him to death. He is perfectly happy as long as he is not alone. He loves attention and affection and he is energetic but it all depends on how you raise them.
lurve.... to love someone with the expectation that it will end badly
