@scoot1105 Yes, I saw an episode where pigpen got all cleaned up, hair combed and everything. It lasted all of but 5 seconds before the clouds of dirt began to rise again.
Oh. But there's one special I never found out about: the one where Charlie Brown holds a bowling ball and panics, and Peppermint Patty urges him not to throw the ball (he was facing "the wrong way"), but he does it anyway, and he asks if he won, but she says "[he] threw the ball at the front door, Chuck!"
It's called Snoopy Brother's Spike. It has a sequence called Great Pumpkin in which Peppermint Patty takes Charlie Brown bowling (the scene you're talking about). You can find it here on YT.
I have to agree with FansFiltration down here: there's no comparison between the Peanuts cartoons of the 1960s/'70s and those of the '80s which are just awful, from the music to "Flashbeagle", etc...
Re-run maybe, Peppermint Patty is a classic, are you kidding? Violet & Patti did absolutely nothing, they are just there to make numbers when they're at school; Peppermint Patty injected new life into Peanuts & is irreplaceable
You know I'm kinda gonna have to go with what you say. I really liked Violet and Patty and they should of had there own skits on the Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show.
Are you sure you ever read any ReRun strips from the 90s? It's true that after Schulz created him around '72 he ran out of ideas for him pretty quickly and later said he regretted creating him. But around the mid-90s something finally clicked, and he developed a unique identity. It practically got to the point where he became the strip's main character by the end.
ReRun's 90s career, in my opinion, is the clearest example of how Schulz never quit exploring new ideas.
@sliat1981 hey i like patty the other patty is mean so is violet and rerun is so cute i like rerun because he dose not carry a stupid blanket or believe in the stupid great pumpkin i think rerun is a little kid not a mistake
It's kind of neat how the whole "Flashbeagle" thing was a microcosm of the state of early '80s pop music, sort of Peanuts meets MTV. The whole "I'm in Shape" thing always reminded me of Olivia Newton-John's "Physical" mixed with Toni Basil's "Mickey."
Sally did call him Charlie Brown in her first couple of years in the strip. The "big brother" thing started in the late '60s, I think. As an anime fan, I think it's kind of neat to watch the Japanese dubs of the Peanuts specials and hear her call him "-niichan."

Another useless character, Rerun. He was WAY too similar in looks in personality to Linus. Most people assmumed when he was on the bike it was Linus in a flashback. Franklin wasn't really needed either, but he was only a minor character so it wasn't too bad having him.
For many years Schulz openly said he felt introducing Rerun had been a mistake. Rerun didn't become a major character until the last couple of years of Peanuts, around 1996 or '97. When Rerun finally got his own personality, he was like a boy version of Sally but not quite as ditzy.
what's that sng from 3:05 ?? i love it!!

Do you remember the name of that CBS show about Shultz the Whoopi Goldberg hosted? One scene in that show had Faith Hill singing to Charlie Brown

@zatchHBK85 I researched it and I guess it would be Here's to You, Charlie Brown: 50 Great Years (2000)

Rerun was a mistake. It was basically Linus from the start all over again. Shoulda removed Pepermint Patty and Rerun and returned Violet and Patty

As a child of the mid 1960's, I HATE the 80's versions. Anything after 1975 is Snoopy Poop.
The golden age of Peanuts T.V. specials died with Vince Guaraldi. The music of these 1980's shows is just plain atrocious.

I like the 1980s specials. I think there somewhat better than the 1960s specials.

I haven't seen some of these songs (Flashbeagle, I'm in Shape) since the original broadcast when I was about 7 - but I still know all the words.

Shouldn't Sally call him "big brother?" Hearing her call him Charlie Brown is just weird.
drumfreak87 3 years ago 10
Its because everyone calls him that..... sometimes she calls him big brother but only when she wants something from him

IT'S ARBOR DAY CHARLIE BROWN is my favorite; I absolutely love that Vince Guaraldi score playing in the background when it's raining
