Thank-YOU, DrummaAddict! That was mAHvelous! I am left awe-struck every time I. Catch a glimpse of this man with sticks in his hand. I feel like I've followed him all my life. Actually, that's pretty close to true, and I'm a young lady in her … umm … er … what I meant to say is, and I'm 49 years young! ;-)
this man need sticks and heads made of asbestos with the speed of light moves he has. very very impressive i must say . he deserves every penny and more then he is paid to play.
Dennis is an influential drummer but not a god, I know that he is awesome but there are hundred of thousand drummers that have very good skills but not gods.......but he is influential to my drumming as many others.
I get the feeling that guys who say this is a boring solo havn't seen a drummer use real dynamics before. There just use to the loud predictable rock drum solo.
What's even more incredible is that he's a self-taught drummer AND he plays "all genres" of music to perfection which his puts him in a class with a very select few...he's untouchable!!!
I hear one William Cobham. I love his sound on this recording. Everything is separate and beautiful. Haters go home. Dennis is just doing his thing. Everyone can't be Vinnie and Gadd.
I appreciate this recording more. I just watched a Mike Stern video and he played like a pig. One dynamic, one tone, totally unmusical. On top of that, he has no sense of melody. Percussion has no melodic contour? Uhh hunh, ok. I hear "a touch" of it, but, rarely.
@kdsf12 Thats your opinion,if Dennis was"unmusical" I don't think he would be in such high demand for sessions or tours. Plus judging solos is like walking into a conversation. Especially if it's during a middle of a song.
His solos from his earlier years are very Dynamic. Look for the video of him playing at the China Club in 1990.
my guess is he's not soloing... seems to be kinda warming up, or recording test tracks for the sound engineers. if, and i mean IF chambers was really putting an effort to perform a real drum solo, it would be something out of this earth! dixit
Dennis Chambers takes it to a another level. Along with these guys: Carter Beuford, Danny Carey, Neil Peart, Tim "Herb" Alexander, Brann Dailor, and Mike Bordin. They are all capable of pulling off things that don't seem humanly possible. Check em' out if you haven't heard them yet.
@DrummaAddict I can see where RestDayer is coming from. This solo displays the god like ability of Dennis Chambers but this solo has no groove at all. Lightning fast and loud, snail slow and soft, repeat. Just when you start tapping your feet the beat dies. I personally can't stand any musician who does that. It's antagonizing. That's right, any musician, not just drummers. This solo is highly technical and not the least bit musical. In other words boring.
@DrummaAddict With full respect, RestDayer did say he was "10 gzillion miles away from this god's skills"
But either way; why must any musician have equal or greater skill, before being aloud to simply voice an opinion? i'm sure there are a few greatly renown artists, much better than all of us, including you, that you probably wouldn't like everything about?
@DrummaAddict With full respect, RestDayer did say he was "10 gzillion miles away from this god's skills"

@RestDayer The speed is breathtaking, and, no, I can't do any of that, but, yeah, it is a bit unimaginative and repetitive. Fun to watch for a bit; not six minutes though. If I want to watch crazy speed, I'll watch Buddy Rich. He's much more musical and creative than Chambers. Chambers is nonetheless a legend and technical master of his instrument.
@RestDayer the snare is pretty much the main drum, and without it, most of the licks wouldnt sound the same. its not predictable, because even though it starts on the snare, you dont know where he's gonna take it
