  • That was the worst landing attempt ever.

  • Wonder if he dropped his beer?

  • Looks alot like Ryan Newman's blowover at Daytona in 2003.

  • i didnt see any ejection i think hes fucked.

  • The problem is that there is great pressure to fly prototype aircraft before the advanced fly by wire systems are bulletproof and in this case before all the computer code was finished. This is a beautiful example of an advanced fighter aircraft and a worthy successor to the Saab 37 Viggen. For the record the XF-22 prototype also had a similar landing problem brought about by incomplete computer code .

  • Awesome aircraft, i work on tornado f3

  • The pilot DID survive! He only suffored a broken elbow and minor scratches. The pilot later explained why he didn't eject from the plane; It's a safety mechanism that makes sure that you can't eject from a plane that is upside down when under 140ft, if you did, the ejection seat would crush the pilot. So when he realized that he couldn't recover the plane, it was already too late to eject...

  • hell no, i doubt he survived that, Gripens do have great power, but when the pilot pulled the stick too hard, it pulled up at a high angle and stalled out. and you can tell that when it was going off the runway, it caught some airflow underneath the wings and started to roll. and then it hit the cockpit a little, id be suprized if he survived, but for now.... rest in peace and god bless him

  • Too bad. I like the Gripen. Hope the pilot got out safely.

  • why he jerked with the stick?

  • @valeriobert

It was a failure of the Fly-By-Wire control system, not pilot-induced oscillation.

  • @valeriobert droped hes keys :D

  • @valeriobert he sneezed.

  • whats with the hatefull anti european comments?

  • Comment removed

  • lol bad landing for a crash landing lmao

    F16s Rule!

i dont mind if we lose some Euro Jets they suck

  • thats why we have ejection seats in our jets, feel free to use yours at anytime..

  • Good thing it was a EuroJet, those things are gay!

  • did he die?

  • The pilot survived with only a broken wrist. He was testing the J-39 Gripen when the fly by wire system failed and he was unable to pull out. He actually survived another crash with the same plane at an airshow for the same reason and ejected to safety.

  • Wow how bad could he be i've pulled out of these and landed then several times on ace clmbat rook mister

  • that plane was out of control, the pilot should have bailed at a safe place

  • wicked.. did the pilot survive ?

  • it could be a typhoon or that french cop of the typhoon rafle :S i dunno but it look like a typhoon

  • lol that must be USAF

the yanks are generally regarded in the west as the dumbest nationality

  • JAS 39 Gripen only possible nations are Swiss, Czech, Hungarian, South Africa......its a pretty decent fighter jet.

  • And can you UKs mention the last fighter ace you had since WWII? You know... the war about 65 years ago that we bailed your ass out of.

How fucking stupid your comment was.

  • typical yank

u think arriving late in 1917 and in 1943 is perfectly fine for u to take all the credit.

yanks are laughed at because of how stupid they tend to be. just like you

btw, who is the last fighter ace the USA has had since 1945. top gun tom cruise!?

  • Yep- we arrived late to help Britain against Germany in two world wars. Hope we don't make the same mistake again. Next time, I hope we let you out of your own mess. By the way- the Brits are known for the great dental hygiene and their great food. LMAO

  • great dental hygeine? wtf are u talkin about?

u must be embarrased that the USMC alone numbers more than the entire British Army and yet we're regarded as the finest fighting unit on the planet. ur shitty delta force u see in games like call of duty is nothin on the SAS. the SAS hav won acclaimation durin the iranian embassy hostage crisis and the battle of tora bora. ur shit obese yankie delta force with their hillbilly shotguns are fuckshit

  • 92 GH -must be your IQ + your initials (Gonorrhea Halitosis).

You are truly stupid if you could not see the put down I smacked you with yesterday.

And your tirade about SAS.... really... you sound like a little kid! For all I know, you are a little kid.

    LMAO.

  • what is it with you yanks and teeth. the UK has the same dental service as health service so it doesnt cost us directly to see the dentist, we go for check ups every 4 months and clean our teeth morning and night. just cus you yanks are hollywood false celeb god obsessed. you got fake teeth that are unaturally sparkling snow white and look pathetic. teeth are bone, bone isnt pure white, theyre for eating not a fashion accessory. and brit food? ive travelled the US and its full of fat dumb fucks.

  • Agree with everything u say m8.

  • typical yank. coming into the war thinking the USA saved everyone. you do it in WWI and WWII. Britain hasnt needed a fighter ace since 1945 because we aren't the ones gettin involved in other countries affairs. this is why britain is the USA's only ally. I mean after all, we still own you and can revoke your independence

    haha

  • Well, You Brits can come over the Atlantic anytime you want to try and revoke our Independence. I think you'll get your ass whipped worse than in 1789!! Plus... didn't you Brits give up your gun rights? Americans have 200 million guns in the private sector alone. Anytime you want to try an invasion, be my guest. LMAO

  • Comment removed

  • @LarentisOnline lol so that's why you guys were in Iraq with us? because you don't get involved?

  • Yeah,

But we are the only country that had the technology to go to moon over 40 years ago. And what wonderful space program did you Brits come up with? LMAO.

  • who invented the jet engine?

Britain, so thank you very much. please proceed to suck my balls

  • @LarentisOnline no germans did WWII same time britain was doing it but the german got his up first

  • @LarentisOnline yeah but it took a nazi to get it to work...... lol

  • at 0:14 pilot ejected

  • nope

  • of course there dead his wing fell off he did a baroll roll and a backflip

  • what type of jet??

  • swedish gripen

  • Is it not the Euro-fighter Typhoon? I could be wrong though.

  • its the JAS 39, the Euro-fighter Typhoon is just a rip of

  • Its a JAS 39 Gripen, single engine canards, side air intakes.

Typhoon as two engines, dual underbelly airintaks.

  • my dad is the future president

  • MULTI MOVIE JET!

  • pull up idiot!!

  • 4 yrs later after this crash, the same pilot got in the same plane and the same thing happened the computers failed

  • exactly right brumster01. i dont know why people thumbed you down, it was on an episode of Destroyed In Seconds...

  • Are they dead?..D:

  • Can't believe the pilot survived it. Lucky SOB.

  • Gust!

  • pilot's fault i think

  • Well he could not do much about this software bug, but maybe he should not have ejected as fast a few years later at the Water Festival in Stockholm. The plane was leveling out and maybe would have made the unexpected & unplanned low altitude cobra without eject and crash...

  • that was my dad right there: his plane got out of control, and he didnt go around, because if he would have throttled up, he would have lost control even more, and the crash would have been worse. My dad got away with 3rd degree burns, a concusion, and a broken arm. Hes lucky, and Im happy hes alive.

  • my dad is running for president

  • my dad is now the president

  • my dad was the president

  • My dad sleeps with the president

  • My Dad's gonna bitch slap your president!

  • what kind of plane?

  • Saab Jas Gripen

  • what song is that

  • Yes the pilot survived.

  • DAMN IT, MAN!!!.....pull out and GO AROUND! Typical results for a botched approach and trying to save it....throttle up and abort would've been much better...Just STOOOPID!!!....anybody know if pilot survived???

  • it's a pilot-induced oscillation you fool. the split second time delay between pilot input and hydraulic actuator response causes the pilot to correct any sudden movements, but the timing of it all just keeps exacerbating the problem. jeez.

  • Came in much too fast, which is a common mistake with rookie pilots.

  • I wish you people would stop talking out your arses. What do you know about flying a fighter jet? For some reaason, you always say you know exactly what the pilot should have done, but I highly doubt it's ever as simple as you make it sound.

  • poor viggen

  • Grippen

  • oo sorry I wrong its a gripen saab gripen sorry:(

  • i know a F-16 pilot that crashed landed a F-16 with gear up

  • I wonder why he didn't eject. I guess it was looking fairly decent up to like the last second.

  • cause there wouldn't be enough time for him to deploy his chute and NOT hit the ground with a thud.

  • Not true. American aircraft have zero-zero ejection capabilities, meaning that if you were to eject at ground level, your chute would deploy in time to save your life. This isn't a US aircraft though and, given China's tendency to devalue human life, I doubt they have high quality ejection systems.

  • China? It's a Swedish JAS 39 Gripen mate. It has the Martin Baker Mk 10LS seat, which does have zero-zero capability.

  • no drinking and flying.

  • ..... looked painfull bet he went right to the pub arfter, i think i would of....

  • cool

  • did he live?

  • yup he lived then crashed once more untill he quit flyin

  • Problem these days. Software flies most of the plane... Not the pilot!

  • Actully the new fighter planes have very awkward designs which make them invisible to radar but very unstable which the calls fot programs that allow the pilot to focus on the job of shooting or searching rather than just getting the plane right. These softwares are so sesitive that they can help the pilots with near;y impossible manuvers. i suppose it makes the fights fly like a training propeller plane

  • Yeh but in this case I've even heard that it was the software, you see this aircraft was a test fighter for saab that had poor software and thus poor control on finals.

  • it was a software bug actually

  • Pilot = noob

  • Pilot = NOOBLET

  • NOOBLET lol funny

  • he's a better pilot than you

  • yah man...im sorry mr pilot ...not your fault it the software ..i know i know!! ...i would take the comment off if i could but i wrote a cover up comment on top of it.....and plz i would like people like banjo to shut up ..plz...and sorry

  • It's the JAS-39 Gripen, the world's most expensive lawnmower.

  • LLOOL !! nice one !

  • If it looks J-10 or Eurofighter to you, maybe it would be good thing to double check the shape and placement of intakes on these tree...

Eurofighter is also twin and the plane crashing is obviously not.

There is some resemlance tough. I have to admit...

    /Jyri

  • looked like an eurofighter from afar but indeed it is a gripen

  • it looks like a chinese J-10

  • it's sweden jas-39 gripen prototype crash due to Pilot induced oscilation. some fault with software, remember, that was prototype, this same thing happend with usa f-22 prototype same thing - software

  • Yes, the pilot survived :)

He bailed out in the second prototype crash in Stockholm too. Reason again PIO but bit different case back then... Retired after that :)

    /Jyri

  • It is a prototype of JAS 39 Gripen, correct.

Afterburner? No, just stuff ingested into engine.

    Pilot proving something? Hell No!

It was software flaw in the avionics. PIO or Pilot Induced Oscillation in short.

Both flight control computer and pilot tried to pull hard simultaneously -> Stab servos couldn't follow the rapid movement -> stabs lagging more than 180deg in phase -> negative feedback-loop into positive -> oscillation -> crash.

    /Jyri

  • damn sonnn

  • Pilot's thoughts:

La dee da dee da dee daaaa oh shit oh shit oh shit HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT!!

  • oops

  • holy shit

  • it look's like it was his first landing and he had some problems with the speed control

  • thats a gripen allright. really have no idea what that pilot was trying to prove. his approach was fine that it went bad. notice how his afterburner is one when he rolls. got a good feeling it was a south african development pilot.

  • thats not an afterburner, thats soil getting sucked through the engine. u can tell there was what looks like a strong crosswind just of centre but still a strong one. the pilot looks like he pulled up but wasnt expecting the controls to be so sensitive as the wind was stronger than normal. this caused a baloon landing which i see my students do all the time but this one was recovered badly.

  • Unfortunately you are incorrect. It was a software bug.

  • lol that's gripen

  • yes.

  • All I want to know is ......did he live?

  • same here ??? i hope he did

  • It was the first official flight of the swedish fighter JAS 39 Gripen.

  • from the one flip when you see the delta wing it looks like either an f-102 or 106

  • what plane was that looked like a brand new eurofighter typhoon

  • its a saab grippan.. the typhoon has air intakes undernearth.. these are on the side

  • JAS 39 Gripen
