  • @btqy But why a little i in the credits then? why not all upper case if it's coming from the same word. Ah well lol.

  • Reminds me of when America was King and if you wern't anywhere near it, you were missing out! Boy times have changed!

A pity LA didn't keep its old trams like they did In Cisco or Down Under.

I think its time to bring the trams back. You can tell LA was a cool place back those days otherwise!

  • good times, great memories!

  • Funky! Remember this when I ws about 4 years old.

  • wow memories!!!

takes me back as a kid

    kinda makes me sad

  • When all the petrol runs out they will have to go on patrol with penny farthing bikes.

  • I just noticed those 2 bikes were kawasaki I always assumed they were harleys

  • They should make a re make of this if they do not screw it up.. Great show, great times back then. More friendly people, better drivers, less idiots on the streets.. . Not much traffic jams them days....

  • Retro !!

  • oooh funky music, my mum loves this :P

  • My favorite show of all time. Have the series on DVD,someone do a remake. Come on,they did Hawai'i Five-O.

  • My brother and i, two BMX (with number plates & mags), 2 clothes pegs & 2 football cards on the wheels, side by side, oh yeah!

  • Bring this show back...somebody!!!

  • 22 people have been chipped

  • Discooooooooohhhhh!

  • The music has a mix of an old Disney, the hip 70's and Buck Rogers.

  • Syncronized motorcycling is The Best ( classic )

  • Cooler than cool, total awesomeness and dipping into this opens up a succession of memorable themes on the right hand side. Halcyon days !

  • Time for a new show called BiPeDs, about the BART police! If you take my idea I will sue you!

  • i haven't heard that in over thirty years.cool

  • i never thought i would ever watch this again in my life but thanx to utube......lol

  • Man that brings back good memories from my childhood!!! Thanks for the video

  • Don't you love how every episode ended in a 35-car pileup with a gasoline tanker exploding into a massive fireball that destroys the entire freeway, and everyone walks away without even a scratch? lmao

  • loved this show as a kid, made me want a bike to this day.

  • I always remember this show as a kid - the 2 cops never took their guns out out of their holsters!

  • love this show good theme one of my all time favorites

  • C'mon... This is another piece of my childhood! I loved this show. Just another wonder of the music world that makes up my childhood!!!! I loved this show!

  • Moltar

  • ESTRADAA.

  • This show had to have been shot at seven in the Sunday morning. No traffic?

  • @StanBennet the vast majority of the show was shot on newly constructed sections of freeway which were not yet open to the public.

  • @tmm32x : ....not only that, but more than 30 years ago, I'm sure the population in the city was not as much as it is today.

  • @StanBennet lollllllll

  • @LuxuriousLuxembourg I mean let's get real here. I know live in Sioux Falls SD and this is what it's like here on an average afternoon!

  • @StanBennet

In some of the scenes, they seem to just drive round the same block several times. It's funny to see the same corner garage appear again and again. Other thing to to look for is the way shadows change direction between shots. You get an idea of how the final cut was put together.

  • is it me or did they never draw there guns! I cant remeber an episode where they did let me know it you remember one

  • Tony blair and cameron leading towards democracy,

  • OMG i am 7 years old all over again ty uploader

  • Quite possibly even more homoerotic than the infamous Top Gun 'volleyball' scene!

  • another great from mike post!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It was a time of the great America.

General Motors was the queen of highway.

And China was a country of "third-world".

    Now, this situation have changed.

    What a pitty.

  • @KirovetsGW82 Dude the 70s sucked. 3 bad presidents. Bad fashions. A terrible economy. The Vietnam War/the post Vietnam years. The 70s were hardly the good ol' days.

  • @gothatway09 I'm disagree with you on 2 point. It was easier in seventies to get a job than now. You had a good president : Nixon. This president stopped Vietnams war and sent people on the moon.

  • @KirovetsGW82 How do you like your HOPE & CHANGE now?

  • @UCSDEngineerDoctor I think that it's too late for change now.

  • I bet there's a black session guitarist playing the chikky chikky guitar!

  • @nonyafukkinbizniz that's my mom!

  • @BibleThumperMan because back in the 70s they were called chippies

  • I wonder who was the first person who said "hey, we could be showing three commercials in the time it takes to run this time." Probably the same guy who started squeezing end credits onto a postage-stamp-sized corner of the screen. And who said "ATM fees... now that's a good idea," and "we should run a bunch of ads before movies in theaters."

  • My all time favorite show from my childhood, and my ringtone today!

  • Love 80's TV Shows! :D

  • @BibleThumperMan

hello, CHP stands for California Highway Patrol, the other letters are added

  • ▼ ◄ ▲ ► ▼ ◄ ▲ ► ▼ ◄ ▲ ► ▼ ◄ ▲ ► ▼ ◄ ▲ ▼ ◄ ▲ ► ▼ ◄ ▲ ► ▼ ◄▼ ◄ ▲ ► ▼ ◄ ▲ ► ▼ chips anyone?

  • crack

  • i remember coming home after school everyday to watch this, man they dont make shows like this no more and thats the truth

  • I was bored and typed in 'chips'! Lol!

  • Chips was one of the most popular t v serials in Pakistan even in 1978-1980...memories of childhood....thanks a lot for uploading this introduction

  • Chips? Like Potato?

  • LOL US Highway Patrol on Kawasakis - i'll never understand this!

  • the i was in highway

  • California Highway Patrol: CHiPs

What did the 'i' stand for?

  • @GrinningSceptic

There has to be a vowel somewhere, so the alternatives are "CHaPs", "CHePs", "CHoPs" or "CHuPs". IIRC, the nickname for California Highway Patrolmen prior to this show was "Chippies"

  • ERIC ESTRADAAAAAAAAAAA. Mmm, hottie !

  • CHiPs had some great stunt work

  • L.A. with hardly any traffic lol .

  • I grew up with this music. We even watch Chips episode in driving school

    !

  • I always remember these 2 cops never took their guns out of their holsters!

  • all the ladies loved punch :)

  • I HATED this version of the Chips theme song! It was completely "disco-ed" up from the first season, which was much better.

  • @paktype All the music on Chips, all seasons, is totally disco-ed out. I agree the first season version is tighter, but it's all disco to the hilt.

  • @paktype I actually liked the "disco-ed up" version better. To each his own. Still a badass show from the Big '80s.

  • Damn I miss these cop show theme songs. I know it sounds cheesy, but the 80's was a great time to be a kid!

I also confess this was one of my favorite shows, mostly because of the chases.

  • Comment removed

  • yo was it just me as a kid or did his shades really move up on its own?? lol

  • all i typed in was chipsto find somethin random this is pretty random so im sucsessful!

  • excellent CHiPs & don't 4get the fish lol

  • oh fucking hell i remember this

  • 20 people don't know how to ride motorcycles

  • Hmmmm, although it was fiction, those were the days when police actually busted criminals, can't say the same for nowadays!

  • does anyone know the other motocycle cop show which was set in the back hills of somwhere and an intro sung by some kinda country singer ?????? if not who cares !!!!!

  • This music is soooo mega cool!!!!

  • man those were the good old days and the whole family could watch

  • This rock.

  • Does anyone know the meaning behind their famous "L.A. 15 7 Mary 3 & 4"? Is this just a t.v. thing for added dramatic effects, or does it have any meaning in real life? I'm guessing it has to do with jurisdiction if so.

  • @jfpinell OK, L.A. is self explainatory, 15 is the seriel number for the station they were assigned to. Mary is the common radio code for the letter M, which designated that it was a motorcycle unit, 3&4 would be assigned numbers to the individual officers for designating themselves on the radio with the dispatchers and other officers.

  • @5pursuit What's the "7" mean? Also, why do some of the officers on there in cars say "charles" some "adam", and another one "David". Charles and Adam must both mean car/auto. What's David? A, C, and D have something to do with seinority?

  • Wow I loved watching this show as a kid!!!!!! Great intro! :)

  • Lick my Ponch sack

  • CHIPS ( Cops Harassing Innocent People Suck )

  • 1970s disco porno music :)

  • Hahaha my mother always tells me this theme was awesome! Today, I concede ^_^

  • Hehe that fuckig synth sound is dreadful, the producer should be shot for that!

  • I prefer hash browns

  • Man I was just looking for some ideas on home made chips and I stumble across this slice of mother fuckin' awesomeness from my childhood. Look at all this cool shit down the side of the page! Next up, Magnum PI.

  • @monkiest lol

  • @monkiest I just done the Magnum PI one..I'm off to the six million dollar man ;D

  • @monkiest You're hilarious!

  • @monkiest lol!

  • @monkiest

OMG I laughed my ass off when I read your post.

  • I miss this show. Wish it was still on.

  • Thank Mike Post & Pete Carpenter and most of the talented studio cats from L.A... they did it all !!

  • This was an awful TV programme. Absolute rubbish from the USA.

  • My favorite show along with Three's Company. Killer bass line.

  • Does anyone have a Complete Series of Season 3,4,5,6

  • I'm so glad I was a kid back then!!!

  • @THCNME1

  • Wow.. Never eared about Chip's new movie.. but indeed, I found it, it was in 99.

    imdb: tt0162898

  • What a sick bassline mother fucker's !!!

  • @supernickybarmby Indeed!!!!

  • and yes, growing up watching this made wanting to be a cop awesome. as a kid Id ride side by side on my bike with my friend on his bike next to me lol

  • everything was great in the 80s. great tv worth watching. no cell phone or internet (abi t hypocritical of me lol) but still...I wish I could relive the 80s. the early 90s were ok, but then you got to the early 2000s and you could see the direction society, film and tv were going. I dont even watch tv anymore.

  • kawasaki z1000's at there best i do like the ultra safe T shirt wish it was that warm here and safe. biking in the uk is cold but still better than driving a car.

  • the music was great the show was c88p. even the bike bits.

  • This was obviously filmed 35 years ago. If it were filmed today on the 405, they'd be going 10 mph the entire time

  • part of the golden 80's!!

  • Pants theme and show, fall guy and A team miles better

  • thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-thump

  • Yes!!!!

  • Wes Luger: Is this the Billy York informant shoot out?

Erik: I just got here, hold on a second. Hey Larry! LARRY!! (shoots near Larry)

    Larry: What?

Erik: Is this the Billy York informant shoot out?

Larry: No try the 3rd floor.

  • You i grew up in Southern Cali were this was filmed those were the days =]

  • Comment removed

  • LOL i been looking for this show for awhile i just forgotten the name and the actors name :))

  • I watched Chips growing up! I loved it! Classics Rock!

  • heh need to get these on DVD! Sometimes watching this show I saw movie cars! Like the F+B ambulances even the Partridge Family bus lmao

  • I watched them film CHiPS on the yet unopened 210 freeway near San Fernando several times. Pretty cool show. They don't make them like that any more.

  • awesome - growing up in those days was just the best!!!!!

  • I saw Estrada at Sports store a while back. The room became more epic believe it or not.

  • Awesome

  • does anybody know if they have the episode 'Head over Heels" on youtube?

  • I can't believe just how old this is now. It really does seem like only yesterday it was starting.

  • I had the racing track .. i loved this show damn 80's why did you go

  • Damn they knew how to make theme music back then. Nowadays theme music is just an afterthought and totally forgettable.

  • @waveali I agree - it was just all so much more authentic back then.......

  • @waveali I agree, but will say only in America. The UK and BBC still has goo music now, as well as other countries. The recent TV series "Darna" (Philippines) for me was a good example.

  • @waveali

Wha? Before being reminded via this video, I wouldn't have even come close to remembering the tune, & CHiPs was my religion as a kid!

They're all crap and it's only the nostalgia that makes you (and me) all warm & gooey.

  • @waveali Yeah, I was thinking, "They don't make music like this anymore!"

  • @waveali Have you ever seen Dexter? Or The Simpsons?

  • This early intro is the best one. Later, they did a full orchestra that was less disco-y. It took a lot of the thunder out of the bad ass intro.

  • Wether you loved this show or not.. .and I did this music made being a cop epic and made more then one kid want to be a cop

  • This Music is so Disco!

  • As a kid I could never get Estrada's screen name right. It was either "Paunch" or "Punch" hehe.

  • This is required viewing for every CHP Cadet in the Academy - Don't be like Ponce or you are liable to get a lawsuit against you. The 1970's were a different era, nobody was sue happy back then.

  • This show had the best crashes

  • :O

  • ive got some lyrics.

.who stole the bread bin ?

when i was out working ?

which of you cunts took it.

    who stole the bread bin

god i dont fucking believe this

    believe this.

  • CHiPs = Californian Homosexuals Intending Positions Sexual.

  • Wow!!! Look at all that traffic! Geez, I wish it was like that now. These scenes make it look like a lonely town.

  • @ojuist when this sequence was filmed they used mostly unopened sections of Freeway they controlled the amount of cars in the scenes

  • We need more booty in the music. MORE BASS PLEASE! And also where’s that rhythm guitar section at?

  • I remember looking all over town trying to find the gloves "that Larry wears in CHIPS" to look cool while throwning bales lol :)

  • You know, on Larry Wilcox's title credit at 0:45 he looks....well....as happy as Larry :D

  • Best show ever!
