Sorry...meant nose-up. The B52, for all intents and purposes, is a jet-propelled glider/bomber hybrid, but it simply was NOT designed for those maneuvers. More size = more stresses. Just because Tex Johnson did it with a 707 doesn't mean it'll work with a B-52. 707s are smaller and lighter.

Nse down = Normal for a B-52 in level flight at low speed due to high angle-of-attack wing. Wings lose lift beyond 45 degrees, requiring the plane to be nose-pu in such a turn to preserve altitude. The pilot was indeed Lt. Col. Bud Holland; The co-pilot tried to get control away from Bud but was unsuccessful. BOOM. RIP to the other 3...Bud got what his actions deserved.

Zero lift unless you are pulling a banked turn with enough energy to force air over the wing fast enough to keep it flying; only fighter jets are really designed for that, and even then its bleeds energy rapidly.

Looking at frame 43 the tail is higher than the nose indicating he is heading downward and I would think getting lift from a wing in the vertical position is only getting you lift "vertically" and with the nose pointing down = lift into ground.
