Some 35 years ago, a friend of mine came into my sound studio with this album under his arm. I cued up Side One, Cut One - Aurora ... and have not been the same since. Therewith started a love affair with Ralph, Paul, Glen and Collin (RIP), and even after the loss of their wonderful sitarist, they kept on keepin' on, adding Mark Walker in 1997.
That they continue to make astonishing music after fully 40 years is a testament to their musicianship and ensemble.
I remember my parents having "Always Never and Forever" in their CD library when I was 7. 14 years later, with the advent of electronic libraries, I can finally revisit myself flipping through these cd tracks in awe.

Aurora takes me back to the woods, those barefooted dudes playing their instruments. The sound of an oboe still haunts me.Icarus by Ralph Towner reminds me of those summers too. I just looked and I have Distant Hills, Our First Record and the Essential Oregon, by Oregon. By Ralph Towner I have Solstice and Diary. Have several albums by the other guys in the group. I'll keep looking.
When I was a teenager every summer I went to camp. There was a group of people who stayed at the camp, and they would come outside in the evenings and play instruments. That group of people was Oregon. My mind is blown just to remember it.
I was a fan at 16 y.o. "Out of the Woods" was played until the grooves were gone. Can't find any uploads from that album...? It is an amazing album, too! Got any?
I love Jazz but as a visual person it always makes me feel as if I'm in an urban environment full of city life people and buildings. OREGON made me feel like I was in nature. this is why i loved them sinceI was 15. This is on e reason why I connect to them
@wigginsdesign ''Alexandre Dumas pere wrote over 400 historical novels expsoing world tyranny(Roman Catholic Empire). Alexandre Dumas pere was born near paris in 1802 and 'coincidentally' in 1902 The Society of Gesu(Jesuits) were expelled from France for the 3rd and alst time. The Society of Jesu(Jesuits) have been expelled from 83 countries and their pope is ARAMIS AND HE IS ALSO KNOWN AS THE COUNT OF MONTE CHRISTO(GENERAL OF THE JESUITS).
Embracing, peaceful, happy. I have all of the Vanguard albums, except for two. Great acoustic music, whatever genre you wish to assign to it. Way it starts to build to a crescendo toward the end is satisfying. Reminds me of Abaddon's Bolero.
I've seen Oregon perform a number of times and I'm VERY confident that this was NOT recorded in tracks. This ensemble had a magic that was unparalleled!
@gringochucha There are doubled woodwinds, simultaneous guitar, piano and trumpet. So it appears to be overdubbed. It is still a masterpiece. Anyone who has seen them live would agree that the magic was there, live or in the studio. This was the first song I ever heard from them and is still my favorite after all these years
@countstromboli But I would imagine they recorded the basic song structure together as a band in the studio and then overdubbed the rest, like the Bozzio Levin Stevens albums. That's the impression I get, I could be wrong.

The member of Oregon came from the Paul Winter Consort along with Eugene Frisen (cello). Check out Friesen's New Friend CD!

This music must be recorded live in studio. I can't imagine it being recorded in tracks. Does anyone know?
