  • Still fighting for independence for Wales! We hate the English just like America does just a lot more ^_^ We will join you in Independence someday!

  • Welsh Republic? No, roll on First British Republic.

  • What's with calling us a 'Principality' mate? - it's only the english who call us that!

  • @maxfm83

Actually - mate - the entire world calls Wales a principality. If it still had its own monarchy it would be a Kingdom or if it was freed it would become a Republic. So its not that the English - and the rest of the world - 'call' it a principality out of insult, they call it a Principality because that's exactly what it is.

By the way I'm Wenglish and proud. Born in England raised in Wales.

  • Because of work I've been lucky enough to travel the world and I don't think I've ever once heard Wales referred to by anyone as anything less than a country (although once a US state!)

Insult or not- I think most in my part of Wales will continue to call this country of ours as exactly that.... a country.

Lets leave that nutty little English/German man who calls himself 'our prince' to debate with his plants in his palaces in England...The last real 'prince of Wales' died centuries ago.

  • Yes, I call Wales a country too, I think I was just being a little pedantic earlier, sorry about that. But I totally agree with you, Charles couldn't be less a Prince of Wales if he tried. He has nothing what so ever to do with this country, but I cant talk either.

Just out of curiosity, as you seem like somebody with a lot of national pride. What are your views on people like myself coming to live in Wales?

  • Yeah - most people in Wales are warm and welcoming to the stranger... I'll share a pint with anyone who want to make my country their country - as long as they're respectful of our culture, traditions and can say 'Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch' ;)

Seriously... I used to play rugby with a bloke whose family was from India - the guy played with a turbain, sang the anthem with pride and it was widely accepted by all as the total legend he was/ is.

  • That's good to hear, so it's not all like Aberystwyth then.

Round this way there is a lot of hostility to English people, even though I have lived here almost from birth and can speak fluent Welsh. Its kind of backward when you think that there is a large percentage of Welsh people round here that can't speak Welsh themselves yet still treat people like me like some sort of illegal immigrant.

Let me know where you live, I might move.

  • I'm surprised by that... and as a Welshman a little ashamed!

I know the world over communities who feel flooded by a wave of immigration often lash out... and that's certainly true for parts of Wales - but that tends to be due to them not speaking the language and expecting the locals adapt the the 'english' way of life rather than them trying to appreciate they've crossed a border into another another country.

If you speak fluent welsh... just tell them to Cachu bant ti cachu mes!

  • @maxfm83 you speak like Welsh is the biggest language in Wales.

I hate to burst your little bubble but less than a quarter of us speak it...

  • @wrexhamjack123 I don't speak it myself mate.... but, just as immigrants moving to England have a responsibility to learn English - someone moving to a predominantly Welsh speaking part of Wales does have a responsibility to learn Welsh. - And, even if someone moves to a non-Welsh speaking part of Wales, I think they still should try to adapt to the local culture and away of life.... not expect it to adapt to them.

  • @maxfm83 I agree, however, there is only one village in Wales where every resident speaks Welsh, and that won't last long I can tell you now. I speak Welsh but your argument about local culture and way of life is very thin. I take pride in speaking Welsh, but if you moved to any part of Wales, e.g. Swansea, which is the city with the highest percentage of Welsh speakers in Wales (19%!) that means more ppl watch the Swans than spk Welsh. So what is the local culture, footy or Eisteddfods?

  • @wrexhamjack123 Yes, but no. I think we'll all loose something if we sit back and just accept that anglification of our country is a pregone conclusion - It's our national identity and doesn’t just makes us who we are, but also makes us interesting to the rest of the world.

Just as Quebec brings in laws to try to protect their identity and culture, we in Wales should look for our legislature does the same... as a native English speaker from Neath, I'd be happy for real bilingualism for Wales.

  • @wrexhamjack123 You are aware that Bangor has over a 46% welsh speaking population right..?

  • @droptheleash0 Yes I am, and It's great. But Bangor is a town, I said city. And 46% is still the minority.

  • @wrexhamjack123 I know mate, but Bangor is a city ;) Just a very small one !

  • @wrexhamjack123 at the moment, its goin up every year. personaly i'd be too ashamed to live hear and not learn it, its very welsh mans responsibility

  • @daranac2 Hmm I speak Welsh but I think that's a bit steep.

  • @levijonessheep

i agree it would only be an english man or in your case

a half breed that would say that

it has been a country for centurys its just the english that dont wont

    to believe it as usual

  • @fattwat1

A half breed? My entire family is English. Having grown up in Wales has nothing to do with my "Breed".

I feel privileged to have grown up in Wales. Though it would have been easier had I not met so many arrogant Welshmen, such as yourself.

I also speak fluent Welsh, which is more than can be said for most of your fellow countrymen and I support both when it comes to sport.

Yet in spite of that I've still had a pint glass smashed in the face for nothing more than being English.

  • Wow some really foul language used on here, fellow welsh peeps! I like this video, great tribute to Wales. I like to think Wales is a land of much visual beauty ie the beacons, snowdonia, the coast. But also the working class honest lively-hood, with a 'if you dont like me, screw you' attitude, now lets get pissed and watch the rugby!

  • ieuz123,

What's this 'principality' nonsense? This is not the middle ages man!

  • WALES IS BORING COMEONG FROM A WELSH PERSON ID RATHER LIVE IN AMERICA PERSONALLY .

    diolch

  • CYMRU AM BYTH

  • yes do !!!!!!!!!!

free us frm the people who ave us on a string lyk a puppet!

free us 4 our own sake nd our pride, dnt think we wont b able 2 stand alone nd tall look at the irish nd beleive that we can nd will do it ! CUM ON WALES!

  • VOTE PLIAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nooo don't!! lol. As much as I love Wales, not a Plaid fan.

But I'm not going to get into some political argument, so let's leave it at that shall we :)

  • It does not matter if you like or dislike, plaid, nor if you agree with their policies, voting plaid will show that the people of Wales WANT to leave the so called 'Union' that was forced upon us.

Whether you vote Labour, Cons, Lib or Plaid, it won't matter until we a independent. Once we get independence, THEN we can start thinking about which policies we agree with.

Vote plaid, then we can decide OURSELVES which party we want to govern our country, instead of letting Eng/Scotland decide

  • what part of "But I'm not going to get into some political argument, so let's leave it at that shall we :)" don't you understand?

  • @ieuz123 You started it by saying you weren't going to vote for plaid, you shouldn't have replied.

  • Comment removed

  • I DO ! anything else is Twyp !

  • Fe godwn ni eto ! We shall rise again ! Cymru am Byth

  • long live caio

  • one remaining picture

  • U should've shown them Shane Williams ^^ !!! Ymlaen Cymru

  • Mae'n dda iawn, ond maen nhw'n canu "Wele'n sefyll" (fel arfer) -- dim "Arglwydd arwain".

  • Ah, bread of heaven in welsh. Music to my ears.

    Diolch yn fawr iawn. ^.^

  • Welsh Loyalist to the Union

    and proud!

  • I loved this vide! I am of welsh descent on my mother's side, and I first visited this beautiful country last summer and was completely hooked! This reminds me of how badly i can't wait to go back there, and explore it some more!! Thanks!!

  • CYMRU AM BYTH! Principality my arse! Roll on 1st Welsh Republic!!!

  • I'd love to see Wales get independence, but can't see it happening sadly.

  • Welsh independence is fueled by poor government from London, Wales is always underfunded in every aspect, But so is my home town of stoke-on-trent like most of the small northern cities. I think we all agree that Westminster bleeds us dry including Scotland, But Independence from a Union that has brought us at least some prosperity over the years is crazy, Why not try to balance out the current system instead of creating a new.

  • An lets be honest independence for Wales is not fully independence, What Plaid Cymru don't tell you, Is that they are Pro-European Union and in the European Union you will have less influence than you do in Westminster, So why fool yourselves about the promise of independence given to you by Plaid Cymru. If you want a fully independent country then Plaid Cymru isn't the Party you should be voting for.

  • @TEGge3990 good man dyn da

  • the welsh genius also helped produce pure copper and they provided 80% of the worlds copper for a long time (ancient methods used 4000 years old from great orme n wales) thus was used at base of all ships made them unsinkable. most of which were made in places like glasgow and cornwall. scottish oil has been a massive source of wealth and of course been exploited. so too steel in n england and elsewhere

  • not going to atrgue with a scotsman 1) because the scots are best eductaed in world and because theyre our blood brothers

Ive been to a few lochs they are massiev and beautiful and no doubt hold vast water

my point is that nearly all monarchy gold and silver has been provided fro centuries by wales for zero reward

welsh wwere world number 1 in coal and slate for well over 50 years because wales is oldest inhabaited part of Uk also ancient is souther scotland due ancient tress etc

  • My Dad was born in Anglesey, a true Welsman through and through he loved Wales with a passion, he had a fabulous tenor voice, unfortunately my Dad died a few years back, but heh a little thing like that isn't going to stop him singing

  • Yep totally true a small thing like death don't stop a real Taffy singing......Remember at " Rorkes Drift " when the Zulus attacked ? All that was said was

" For Christs sake IVOR try singing something the buggers like " LOL

  • AWESOME! Cymru am Byth

  • No doubt about it, Scotland's been shafted for it's natural resources. Thatcher used N. sea oil revenue to fund the unemployment bill in the 80's, what a sheer bloody waste. Here's hoping Alban reclaims it's right to do as it pleases with what rightfully belongs to it.

  • to merlin999999... Wales is not the richest natural resourced country in the UK nor Europe. Scotland would be the 8th wealthiest nation on earth if we didn`t have to subsidize england (and wales) with our oil. By the way...Loch Ness alone holds more water than all the lakes and reservoirs in england and wales put together and it isn`t even our largest loch. Our slate industry was killed off in the 1950`s and our coal industry all but killed of by Thatcher in 80`s.

  • love bread of heaven!

  • Cymru is the greatest country on effen planet. I love our anthem. Anyone at the Gorymdaith Dewi Sant 2008? It was amazing!

  • By the way, why didn't you use the anthem?

  • i really love welshes grapes!

  • What you doin' lookin' at vids 'bout Wales if you live in Arizona? Looks like all that heat is makin' you bad tempered jocko. Looks like you're homeland is likely to kick you're beloved union into touch before too long as well, shame eh!

  • Some of us Welsh folk were born speaking Welsh and had to learn it =) without our "dead" language most of us wouldn't be able to communicate, but thanks my celtic brother.

  • Learn english**

  • Wow! So beautiful! Thanks for posting! Interesting the way you chose to intersplice sport and landscapes. You're all so lucky to have a fully functioning, living, celtic language.

  • very nice!

    thanks for posting

  • I see you have got our back up Anthem LOL. The Welsh are the most Ancient race of all. At least you could get our Anthem right. Nice try btw, but this is a hymn.

Cymraeg Rhyddid = Welsh Freedom from the English murderers

  • Brilliant.I've just mailed the link to all my friends overseas.

  • Wow! This is amazing! It really brought out the Welsh pride in me while watching that! Wales is so beautiful and I'm so proud to be Welsh! CYMRU AM BYTH!!

  • beautiful vid! i've never heard these songs before though. i'm english but i love wales and often go on holiday there.

  • It's 'Bread od heaven' in Welsh. =]

    Cymru am byth!

  • da iawn, fideo ardderchog!

maen wneued fi teimlo mor falch am dod o cyrmu! dal ati! xx

  • Hiraeth.

    Brilliant video, well done!

  • wales is the richest natural resourced country in UK and 1 of the most in europe. EVERY bit of the monarchy's gold and silver comes from wales, so does all the money. all the slate, coal, most of the lime, tin, copper, steel, 20% of UK gas, 25% of UK water in the endless reservoirs etc etc all such nations get exploited but its still God's country

  • The best place on earth!

  • This makes my heart yearn for home. I miss my Wales.

  • there no such thing in british wel in other words you english then. dal dy dir cymru, cadwch ein iaith bendigedig yn fyw

  • if cymru is such a shity place to live why is it so many english people want come to live here.and when thing's realy get bad who will move out first.

  • Proud to be British.

  • Proud to be welsh

  • Yeah man and so am I, I am proud of all the nations in Britannia. May our islands prosper!

  • Very nice video. I have an English wife and many of my friends are English but even they agree Wales has been exploited.Where do you think Englands wealth came from? It came from exploiting and colonising other countries all over the world. If England would be better off without Wales, why is the English parliament so keen to keep the union? Water supply, minerals and a need for expanded living space for the ever expanding popul;ation in England might just have something to do with it?

  • Cymru Am Byth!!

O bydded i'r hen iaith barhau!

  • Excuse me but i fink ul;l find u are wrong. The welsh assembly is new and tryin to change the situation while under westminister they will never ever put wales first as for a welsh parliament would. Use ure brain and not ure mouth to express true logic. I mean why would they when they have england to deal with. WE NEED FULL INDEPENDANCE, ANNIBYNIAETH LLWYR I'M GENEDL. CYMRU AM BYTH A BYTHOETH A FU'R IAITH GYMRAEG YN FYW

  • I don't think we need Independance myself but I certainly don't agree with the comment above you. But it's good that you show support for your nation.

  • hen wlad fy nhadau is the anthem for wales

so fuck off admiralal you fucking english wanker

  • That's pretty good

  • That last piece was awesome

  • Kevin Morgan knocking on sums Wales up does it?

  • Good stuff. :)

  • good video, sad to not se st. giles spire or some of the other seven wonders of wales though.

  • If you are a true welshman, when you hear this music it should fill your soul full of pride and passion. CYMRU AM BYTH.

  • mines filled when i hear the word Cymru. dysgu'r Gymraeg pawb!

  • Shouldnt It Be Dysgwch'r Gymraeg?

  • spose you're right

'r only follows a vowel though - otherwise it's y or yr. secondly you can also say dysga too. the latter being more formal

  • Sorry that was unfair! the Welsh have huge national pride, perhaps more than the Scots and that takes some doing. There is a lot to like about wales but please don't forget about England, Cumbria or Cymbrynth, cornwall, we are not all English you know

  • Don't worry lol. But this video is about my country noy england or other parts of the UK. I may make one some day but this isn't it.

  • yes...well... fab anthem.... but wales is nothing without England... daffodils and leeks!!!

  • ummm...... this isnt the welsh national anthem its "bread of heaven" in welsh. and england is simply a part of the uk... so i belive u mean uk not england there!

  • quite but it cetainly a welsh anthem. Land of our fathers may be the preferred choice but i am sure that you would agree that bread of heaven is a welsh anthem... and i meant england.

  • well i agree it most certainly is a welsh anthem but i disagree on the england thing

  • Welsh national anthem isn't bread od heaven. The national anthem tells about our poets warriors and great hero's.

    =]

The land of my fathers, the land of my choice,

    The land in which poets and minstrels rejoice;

The land whose stern warriors were true to the core,

While bleeding for freedom of yore.

    Chorus

Wales! Wales! fav'rite land of Wales!

While sea her wall, may naught befall

To mar the old language of Wales.

  • wonderful wales

  • Wales is a wonderful country

  • Awesome video. Nice to see someone out there representing us Welshies. I'm just as proud of my Welsh ancestry as I am my Ulster-Scot and Irish.

  • I was born in Swansea ,moved to Brynamman grew up there but then moved to the outskirts of Swansea.Where I still live.

  • kl I live in bryncoch which is neath but I was born in singleton and am a jack and proud.

  • I think teaching welsh in schools should definately be compulsory.

  • I learn welsh in my school. Every lesson is in welsh.

  • i removed your other comment sorry. Please comment it again. By the way I go to Ystalyfera. I have two uncles who live in Brynaman Jonny and Edgar. I don't know if u know them.

  • I would need to know their surnames.

  • Welsh people are very proud to be Welsh.I am anyway.

  • listen gavinmjm, you will not understand what heritage and passion means to the welsh if you cant speak the language. people like you have no right to say that welsh language is no good, its the oldest language in europ its from the days of the celts. now im no historian by any means but most welsh knows this and thats why our passion to speak it is so strong. people like you should be telling others to learn this awsome language. 'CYMRU AM BYTH A TWLL TIN POB SAIS'!!

  • Ni fyddai i wedi ei dweud yn gwell. Cymry am Byth!

  • I'm Welsh, and it a great country with great heritage. I don't think that Welsh is a great language though, and teaching it to School children as a compulsory subject really isn't fair. Less than 600,000 people in the world speak it, so its not of much use to anybody.

But apart from that. Big up the Wales Massive ;]

  • You Welsh people have every right to be proud of your great country. Very nice video, makes me long for our holidays we spent there during the lovely summer of 2003.

  • In North Wales there are loads of slate mines and my family have worked in them bt they dont make up my national identity. I agree when you say rugby is a major part of being Welsh, i kno few people who play bt everyone I kno watchs the Wales games.

  • Yea I know about the slate mines and have seen a quite a few, they look really majestic. I just couldn't find any space for them. Sorry :(

  • brilliant wales

  • yes, granted not everyone in wales likes rugby, but you must appreciate that it is a huge part of our national identity!! i mean there were little in fact no mines to my knowledge in north wales, but still its a huge part of our heritage!! the same way that rugby is!! rugby is ingrained into the welsh culture... maybe you have to live in the south to appreciate it?

  • Rugby is an english sport, in the town of 'RUGBY'. Duh! Not welsh!

  • Yes but you may well find that Wales is a tad more famous for it's rugby than england which is more famous for it's football and cricket.

  • what was that brilliant music

  • The 1st was Cwm Rhondda. Cwm Rhondda, the Welsh name for the Rhondda Valley, is a popular hymn tune written by John Hughes (1873-1932). It is usually used in English as a setting for William Williams' text Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah (or, in some traditions, Guide Me, O Thou Great Redeemer), originally Arglwydd, arwain trwy'r anialwch in Welsh,

  • translated by Peter Williams in the 1771 hymnal Hymns on Various Subjects. In Welsh it is usually a setting for a hymn by Ann Griffiths, Wele'n sefyll rhwng y myrtwydd.

  • Apart from church use, it can often be heard sung by the crowd at rugby matches, especially those of the Wales national rugby union team. There it is common for all voices to sing the repeat of the last line (which in church use is repeated only in the bass and alto parts). The hymn has also been sung on British state occasions such as the Funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales.

  • Good video, but what's with all this Rugby? Every video I see about Wales on Youtube has a lot of Rugby. Rugby means a lot to SOME people in Wales, but by no means all of us. Up north we couldn't give two hoots most of the time.

  • Come on there were only a few clips of Rugby and Rugby is the most popular sport in Wales. Wales is well known for it's rugby so I though that the Video had to have some in it.

  • Music and imagery to stir the soul - apart from the try against England of course :)

  • Thanks for posting this beautiful vid! Tara
