I'm a guy and I think of becoming a fasion designer for living (not a real job). So, do I need to learn Sewing and do I need to know the sizes or whatever they call it to de one?? I mean must I work on real clothes or is it ok to just draw some nice clothes?? Please answer :(

Yep im only 16 and i always wanted to be a fashion desinger too. Right now i go to a technical highschool where i get to study academics as well as fashion design. So at my school the first 2 years are about pattern making and garment making. The last 2 years are about fashion merchandising. This video was very helpful and it inspired me even more. Thnx!

I'm taking up Accountancy but my real passion is fashion designing. But I'm already 19 and I think I have no time for designing. I love art, sketching, and creating things. @creatorsnotebook Im in the exact same position i was doing I.T at college and have just given up in my 3rd year i am also 19 and i have always wanted to be a fashion designer, i am going into college again this year but will be studying fashion design and photography :) i think the sooner the better! better to do it now then realise that u hate ur job further down the line and you rely on that job!

@mo0odi20 Always do what your heart tells you to do! You WILL be a fashion designer! Business is always a good thing to have done (when you have a big fashion label :p ),

I think fashion schools produce designers with all the same style and techniques, your better off teaching yourself! Spend every spare minute on designing and sewing and keep believing in yourself and when ur done with business school (you have pleased your parents) it's YOU time!

work hard, finish school (business knowledge NEVER hurt a fashion designer to have), move out of your house, take out a student loan if your parents won't support you on it, and study fashion design. Don't look back on your life when you're older wondering what you might have missed out on :)

I'm gonna end up disappointing my parents because I failed the 8th grade...since many people don't have the opportunity to start.

I'm going to audition for the high school of fashion industries soon. They will help me start out my career. Good look to all.

i REALLY wanna be a fashion designer but.......

1. I'm not very creative when it comes to drawing designes on paper

2. I don't have a sewing machine, and my freehand sewing is VERY uneven.

3. For fabric all I have are pre-made clothes

4. I have no huge pieces of fabric

@clubpenguin1212100 I almost have the same problem as you do. I think in order to be creative, you have to go to a mall and check out what you find fascinating. This way, it will help you become creative. Trust me, this works! Drawing is difficult, however I suggest that you go to an open house for a college that has fashion design and they might teach it to you. And don't worry about fabric, fabric is probably the most difficult part of a garment. So, don't worry about it. You'll get there :)

@clubpenguin1212100 well im guessing your quite young and not in your late teens or twenties so dont worry when i was eleven i had very little ideas for clothes but i persisted and it works. as for not having a sewing machine you can always ask for one for a birthday or christmas i got a brother sewing machine from argos :) i started of with old clothes cutting them up too i made little bags and things. you can buy fabric quite cheap from fabric shops and there is always one close by :) x

to whoever who wants to be a fshion desinger but says you cant draw if your not good at drawing you could always ask someone to draw for you.but it probably woudnt be as good as doing it yourself. or maybe you could take drawing lessons

my familiy tell me the same thing,something that is secure, something like be a doctor or study business, Im also really worried because I hate biology and I could not imagine working in an office and talking about the economical problems..... But it's a pity people think that it is a easy job I mean you have to have the gift to match and draw like that!I would like to do fashion design but I'm worried there are so many that want to make that and you have to be the best to become well knowed

@greeksunshine91 What you want to do is convince your parents that you are going to school for graphic design.. because that is one of the more stable art careers... then, once you are in college, you can split off into fashion design somewhere down the line. That way, your parents know that you have that graphic design backing and you still get to do what you want to instead.

@Aekhia well I already have convinced them:) my problem is that fashion design is an insecure job, and if you arent famous or if you dont work for big companies you cannot earn a lot of money even not enough so that you can live..:( thx for your tip, if wanted to do something that is near at fashion design something like fashion management or marketing and fashion design at the same time..

Go to fashion school anyways, you must do what makes you happy, not your parents happy. Remember Ricky Nelson's "Garden Party" - you can't please everyone, you have to please yourself

your to young to understand how it works just yet so calm down and wait till your older apparently your off to a good start but its not the quantity of the designes its the quality. learn hoe to sew learn about the top designers and biggest names in fashions learn about older designer lines and how they effect todays more modern look. And well just be pacient and take the time you have to learn.
