You can wrap the socket in a thick rag, tie a knot and throw it at the ground, the shock should dislodge the nut, and it helps stop you ruining your socket.
Actually 'Pillock', he did explain in plain English what you have to do to remove the nut from the socket. And no, it's not rocket science.............. .it'scommon sense, skill and experience.
My security wheel nut was put on by Wal Mart without finger tightening 1st when they put new tires on a yr ago. When I went to take it offto change brake pads the actual nut (NOT lug stuf) broke into pieces and is now stuck in the wheel so I can't get the wheel off. What now?
@mykulc Sorry, didn't really get what has happened from your explanation, post a video showing the problem, maybe myself or another user can suggest a way to solve it. Cheers H

@DjFreshmatic if they want it bad enough they are going to get it no matter what kind of security it has. Any resourceful person with half a brain could figure this out on their own anyways.
Your a life saver, a $5 12 point socket from home depot fit on my broken wheel lock. I had no clue what I was gonna do before I saw the vid, make sure it's 12 point and it's the right size. Took no more than a few min - THANKS!
@jasonf81 Awesome, glad I could help. Unfortunately I tried just about everything else including a hammer and chisel before this plan occurred to me! - Hein
Yeah, it's possible that the socket could split, but if you pick one that is only a very slight interference fit you should be fine. You'd probably also do better with a hexagonal socket rather than the multi-fit type.
Thanks for this video! I just needed this! The wheelnut thread on one of my wheels is badly damaged! I'm off to try it out!
Also an advice for people using this technique I've read on the internet: make sure you tighten much the other three nuts to put less pressure on the locking wheel bolt.
Yes, it's bad how we always cater for the lowest common denominator. It's also a way to legitimately remove rubbish stripped security wheel nuts from your car.
excellent video. I started by buying the proper tool and got one lug nut off it took 8 hours of hammering / chiseling / grinding / scraping knuckles / being bit by a hornet!! ......... and I was not successful in removing the first nut from the "proper tool". Using your technique I was successful in getting the other 3 nuts off in 10-15 minutes. Thanks so much.

@SimX9000 Good stuff, glad it worked. Good point there on the 12 point socket! Wouldn't work so well with the regular type! Cheers

@cameronrader92 Sounds like you need a length of pipe to put on the back of your breaker bar. You can lift the world with a long enough bar.
egokart 1 year ago 2
@egokart Actually I think I just tried a wrench and socket. Do you know where to get a breaker bar and how much they cost?

got this from eric the car guy

A lot of sockets like that would just split down the side.
