I'd be more offended if I was Jerry Springer, personally. Surely including the devil and Jesus in the play was intended to lampoon Jerry Springer's supposed moral authority?
I'm a Christian and believe this documentary is genius. It's amazing how offended some get to the slightest criticism. Everything should be criticized. If it can't, then what's the point of overall defending it? Religious fanatics just annoy me endlessly.
3:06 Look at the way Stu is sitting. Legs crossed with his hand wresting on his knee with the palm facing up. Nobody would sit like that, unless if they were reading something off their hand. The utmost professional, amazing live performer!
I think he had stuff written up his arm on Comedy Vehicle, but when you're making a documentary you might as well have your lines written on a piece of paper out of view behind the camera or use a teleprompter.
did you, at no point, see that he was mimicking the statue that was behind him? after almost 20 odd years of stand up, i think Stuart Lee may just about be able to remember about 5 lines of dialogue.
@captaingregstar ok fair point, I must have had my head up my arse when I first watched this. I thought it was odd, hence the comment. Looks like some god's cannot remember their lines though.
How absurd that the native British religions have been successfully smothered by the Arab imports of Judaeo-Christo-Islam. Thinking about it the Christians even stole Easter from the Anglo-Saxon fertility festival for the goddess Eostre, still at least we kept her fertility symbols of eggs & hares.
It's not that absurd to see that "native british religions have been smothered", considering the symbolism left over from these cults.
One thing thats even worse than christians or muslims getting up in arms is people who harp back to "celtic" , "saxon" or "nordic" roots.
"Anglo-Saxon" culture (which never existed - every tribe on the british isles fought eachother fiercely), although interesting from a historical point of view, is dead and in the past, where all religion belongs.
To call the various dukedoms 'tribes' is misleading, as is the claim that they were constantly warring. Bear in mind that without some unity Godwinson couldn't have raised an army to fight two successive invasions by Hardrada & William. The Normans had similar in-fighting, without which we'd never have Magna Carta.
Anglo-Saxon culture which never existed? Incorrect, our language itself is witness to that.
well Christians at the time stole dates and symbology from paganism because they were being persecuted by pagans. which is why they moved and shifted around various dates and important rituals to coincide with pagan ones so they could worship without being stabbed
The festival of the birth of the Christ was set for the winter solstice by Pope Julius in 349 AD. That was after it had been adopted as the official religion of the Roman Empire, so no risk of getting persecuted there. Easter was set to hijack Eostre's spring equinox festival even later than that. There's even documentation showing Gregory II ordering missionaries in Britain to use local festivals as their own.
So.. ancient civilizations once believed that the stars and all astronomy was the presence, power and emotions of gods. Yet in modern history its came to light that pure science is the cause of this lunar activity, and also that there are billions of galaxy's out there.. If we were almost certain that gods were not responsible for such things thousands of years ago, maybe we could all understand science more.
Religion is an outdated path for faith and a false hope for an infinite presence.
God stole my lunch money and beat me up. I asked him why he did that and he said it was because I was stupid and weak. After that he felt a bit bad though and gave me a sammich to eat.
i agree with daniel dennett.display all religion to children unbiasedly in school, then when they are old enough to make a decision,or not, they will be best informed of most doctrines.
One reason many Fundamentalists have a problem with criticism ( ie "blasphemy") is that they are not equipped to defend their beliefs with adequate education. Christians who understand science, history, and logic tend to be confident and secure enough to not get all bent out of shape when their beliefs are challenged. They can have a reasoned debate without getting red-faced and pissy.
@Stepper11 that's so completely true, i have Christian friends who are very studied and learned about their religion, and fully understand the theology of what they believe. It is only the people who's knowledge of their religion is based on a pop-up book they had as a child who find blasphemy 'offensive'. Like the idea of being 'offende'd makes any sense anyway.
Heh, I can imagine the conspiracy theorists having a field day with that "Odin worship is allowed". 'Yeah, I bet the MP for Stoke-On-Trent is sacrificing babies too'.

it saddens me greatly to know that there are people in the world still following and believing in mythological things such as islam and christianity. All these people need to be stopped, and the only way i can see it happening is for them to be killed. genocide of the religious, a quick end to the madness.
"A mister pagan, what do you believe in?
Nature.
Ah. sorry you can't call yourself a religious group, nature exists. "

I met him back in 2003-ish and he was really nice. Genuinely kind and helpful and awesome.

I dunno about that, I don't think you should display any religions in school. You could be learning about important/useful things instead.

The idea of 'faith' schools is abhorant. Why would anyone think that further segregated indoctrination of our children is a good idea?

Mass genocide of people with different beliefs as an END to madness? Explain please. Not to be picky, but that seems oddly Hitlerian.
