  • Can't wait to see her coming to France, Aix-en-Provence Classical Musique Festival in summer. "Les Arts Florissants" booked out in 3 days... here? I al sure, Leila will book-out Aix-en-Provence in 24 hours. Anyone outthere to suggest her agent to simply "consider"... ??? This is the type of talent we need to show exist... beyond languages... ethnic origins... or political beliefs ..... is she in LinkedIn ? ... next time I write to Santa Claus, I will surely "add" her as the best-gift ever.

  • Who the hell dislikes this??? Pathetic! A 12 year old person playing this virtuoso piece this well is a myth. Look at the devotion......she is a musician pur sang.

  • :}

  • wow...I didn't start playing til 13...lol

  • *dies inside*

  • Leila Josefowicz un angel tocando esta movto deberia tener 1520 o 15200 vtos / su arco vuela/ su tecnica impresionante /expresividad y virtuosismo

  • Her hands look so strong for a 12 year old, right? And one has to admire her talent ^.^

  • Incredible.Splendid and perfect. I love this interpretation.

  • woah.. the conductor.. is my dad

  • her vibrato needs some work, other than that she's great. also needs some work on the staccato. ()

  • @powerseriesman This is incredible and that's all there is to say.

  • Leila Josefowicz genial !!!!!! version historica inmortal

  • I Love This Girl

  • Leila Josefowicz!!!!! esta historica grabacion de tu! Vieuxtemps estan en mi vida desde q la escuche por primera ves , impresionante, gracias angel!!!!!

  • The hardest part is not to play but to stand in front of many people and perform such an amazing piece.

  • and im 13 and already go to College for violin and dont need u to be telling me what to do , i have my teacher who was also a violin prodigy!!!!! i think she know's what she's doing.. :)

  • well Leila i know van play this concerto but some of the passages are WAY to fast and the sixteenth notes in some pasages are mushy. But she did play this concerto Amazing Awsome!!! At age 12!!!

  • This gifted young lady continues to contribute. He technique is remarkable to be sure as is her passion. How wonderful. She may not be at the top of one's list of favorites, but that does not take away from her in any way. She continues to give an audience what they pay for.

  • As a fellow violinist (who also plays this concerto) I can say that the tempo at which she plays it is right on; furthermore, this was a televized production to demonstrate the brilliance of both the performer as well as the composer and she executes it with a heap of musicall maturity! The concerto is a showpiece, after all. Listen to the greats play it, I have no criticism of this performance at all. She was a genius then and continues to be to this day!

  • um this is a little too fast for the Vieuxtemps , some of the passages need to be slowed down because the concerto is suppost to be beautiful and there is tricky bowings and u play it too fast , it doesnt get its full potential as when you play it a little slower. You can hear the tone and quality of it as of when u play too fast and it sounds mushy.

  • @Violingeek24 u can t criticize nothing so you say it's too fast??you re ridiculous,go practice scales maybe you will improve your mediocrity...

  • @milstein91 But he's right. She plays it remarkably well, but she plays it like a violin protege. Very fast and hitting every note perfectly; that's only the first step in making music.

  • I don't know what that loser JiangxenPeter was talking about, this whole thing is filled with musical maturity. He probably would have said the same thing on Heifetz's vids which aham cough cough well you just don't negatively comment on Heifetz's videos. But thats seriously who she reminds me most of Kogan or Heifetz. God she's just so brilliant

  • @ JiangxenPeter

Your criticism falls a bit late. About 25 years so to speak.

To criticise a 12 y.o. girl There is after all this time is almost necrologic.

There is a lot of talent around, but I doubt if of her quality.

  • she's very good

  • She's pretty good. I just started this song.

  • I know I'll get sniped for this but I must admit I'm a tad disappointed. Maybe the live recording's at fault. I've ALWAYS loved LJ, but I think this performance went way OTT!! HV, I think, would've preferred a more controlled rendition with due care & attention to dynamics, tone, orchestral partnership etc. Here is virtuosity for its own sake - which was not HV's philosphy. Technically Leila's impeccable even at 12! But perhaps it's the mature Leila whose persona & virtuosity I love. Sorry.

  • @JiangxenPeter I love it when people explain exactly why their comments are invalid, and then make them anyway.

  • @8x3mhlk02 Well, the wonderful thing about democracy is that everybody is entitled to speak their mind, and more important, be allowed to express an opinion, whether valid, invalid, educated, informed or ignorant. And long may it be so!!! Your comment about mine is not helpful at all, but you're still allowed to make it. So, let's just leave it there, ok?

  • @JiangxenPeter It's an accomplished performance, but the fact that it's also a television event - and a "popular" concert might influence the interpretation. Uninitiated audiences like "in your face" performances - and the maturing often can be found in the development of individuals musical tastes.

  • @pmichael73 Yes, I'm sure you're right. Thanks for that insightful contribution. In my comment in clip 2, I did say that she was much more the Leila I love. Possibly by the 2nd/3rd movements, the super-hype has soften a bit, and she became much truer to her true musical self. Technically she is perfect, and like you said, it's the all-eyes-on-you-little-genius Hollywood-Bowl hype that produced that initial in-your-face bravado. Thanks for that.!

  • @JiangxenPeter Btw it was brava (bravo is masculine brava is feminie) just so you can form your argument more clearer

  • this is amazing! Im thirteen and just starting bruch lol she is my inspiration!

  • amazing

and the visual contrast is even more stark such a small girl producing such a big sound

  • Jascha Heifetz y Leila Josefowicz un solo corazon!!!!!!

  • Огромное спасибо!!! Невозможно словами выразить восхищение таким мастерством !!!

  • holy cow...one of the most passionate and powerful violinists

  • I hope she never switches to viola....

  • @IhaveaCstring wouldnt want what happened to Vengerov to her...

  • @Jedum Holy crap that was the best joke I have heard all week it fits perfectly in context and everything. Great Bravo to you and her

  • @violmaster94 hahaa thanks, I guess...:)

  • @IhaveaCstring You suck.

  • holy damn.... words = none

  • hahahha agreeeed!

  • hey it's alex trebec!!!

  • Wow....Great find!!

Crazy how much it sounds like Sarah Chang. Every now and then I get the Josefowicz tone come through.....very nicely done for her age!

  • Today, she is a MacArthur Foundation Genius award winner. She is perhaps the greatest living proponent of contemporary classical music. She still possesses superlative tone and technique. Unfortunately, I think it is wasted on the music she choses to play, but she is nonetheless a true virtuoso, musical genius, as is evidenced by this performance.

  • increible tanta belleza leila

  • Qué cosa tan hermosa!!!!!!!11

  • Look the big muscle- packages at her cute small left hand, what is she doing today?

  • She is an advocate for modern music. I think that is what she has been doing for the past couple years.

  • Magnificent performance Leila. Congratulations.

    In tune

    Lalita

  • Holy Moly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's so fast. Probably some of the most passionate playing by a 12 year old I've ever seen!

  • ma porca eva..

il suo mignolo e' piu lungo del mio 3 dito :D

  • Out of this world! Brilliant!

  • If I were to shut my eyes and listen to this, I would would never guess a 12 year old was playing. Then again, this is Leila we're talking about.

  • OH, GOD!!!!!!

She is so good!! 12 years?!

I am 13, and i´m just playing Bruch violin concerto no.1!

    Oh man!!!!!:D

  • i love her pugnacity...

  • Again, this is mind boggling!

unbelievable! What else can I say?

  • wow, extremely accurate

  • I love 4:11!!!!

  • the amazing thing is that her sound is the same these days. its incredible that she found that when she was 12. what a very wonderful thing that is!! i guess that can be true for sarah chang, too...and perlman...but for some reason L.J. is more unique, to my ear, than to others....hmm maybe that is just me :) Thanks for posting!

  • Whoa! I bet she's one ofthe greatest violinists in the world!

    ~Alexa and her parents

  • So so good! Out of this world! I would love to know the progressions of concertos she learnt to get to this point.

  • Does anyone know which violin she played in that event?

  • A Del Jesu from the Stradivari society at that time. Now she owns another Del Jesu.

  • what a wonderful violinist!!

  • She is just remarkable!

  • Truly incredible. A genius.

  • This is so amazing! Other "wunderkinds" won'T play in such inspiration, she's with 12 a super-pro!!!

  • Geez, look at her stance with the legs. Now this is one 12 yo who means business...!

  • I am very impressed. This is really fantastic playing at such an early age and it already has refinement of taste. It reminds me in quality of young Michael Rabin.

I don't understand how she ends up playing the Bruch concerto as an adult in such a superficial way. Even technically speaking, I can't see an improvement in her playing.

  • WOW!EXELLENT!SUPER!AMAZING!

  • This is the definition of PRODIGY. Incredible - beyond words.
