I agree that EQ and EQ2 are addictive. No question about it. But being responsible for someone's death? Please... Alcohol and cigarettes kill people. Guns kill people. Games don't. Blaming Blizzard or SoE for making games so good that people love to play them is as stupid as blaming the NFL, NBA, NHL, etc. for making sports so well that people love to watch them, and yes, many are obsessed with sports, the players, the teams, rivalries, etc. And I'm quite sure you can find rare exceptions of people actually committing suicide over their team losing, or a playing moving to another team. I apologize for their loss, but you cant blame EverQuest for it. He probably had a few mental problems to begin with, and the game was his way to fit in with a group.

It is to bad someone took their life over a game. yes the game is addictive. but it is the person's choice to play it. i play wow and rs 30 hours a week. i maintain work, family outings, etc. its nice to do something last few hours before bed time.
The word "addictive" in Sony's ad for EQ isn' t to imply that you'll literally develop an addiction. They're trying to say that it'll be captivating and fun. If anyone has their original box for C&C Red Alert 1, they'll see on the back that it says "easy to play and highly addictive". It's a selling point, not a warning.
I've logged over 3600 hrs on WOW over 2 1/2 yrs and am not concitering blowing my head off. I havent gained wieght and I'm not gettting anti social. If anything i get to talk to my friends that live 2-3 hrs from me on a daily basis.

Lot of this game bashing nowadays is out of ignorance. The games aren't the source of the problem, they are mostly just a symptom or a factor in a whole puzzle. People who already have issues will search for a refuge in games like this, but they had these issues beforehand already. Also, it;s the interaction between OTHER people in game that causes the pressure like guild requirements etc.
Also, gaming is a subculture on it's own. If you're not into it, you mostly won't understand it.
I'm active duty Army and several fellow soldiers in my battalion all play various sorts of MMOs as do I. I've played MMOs since Meridian 59, which is preUO and preEQ. I've learned that the games are for entertainment only. The only thing people can describe as being addicting are the GUILDs that have stupid requirements. Raid guilds are the forefront of most of these crazy incidents because they push people beyond their limits. Which is why we made our own guild and a relaxed one at that.

I think this is the dude who got PK'd until corpse decay, I know there was some guy on our server back in the day who was PK'd till his corpse decayed, they literally had 6 people at a time camping his corpse around the clock. We heard he killed himself that week, then the same guys who corpse camped him killed all of his EQ friends when they tried to hold a in game funeral for him. I still think its funny. Memory is fuzzy though.

Although games can be addictive if you allow them to be, blaming a game for a man's suicide is wrong. If he had killed himself while watching Predator, she would probably be all over the makers of Predator about it.
I apologize for their loss, but you cant blame EverQuest for it. He probably had a few mental problems to begin with, and the game was his way to fit in with a group.
Unless the game comes packed with a gun, theres no reason for her to blame Sony for this.

Every time I run across this video I smile, and I am a very depressed person.
I quit playing Everquest about a year ago because there weren't enough players on my server to make it fun anymore.
There will never be another game as good as EQ, I played WoW, WAR, and vangaurd. They are all sad in comparison to EQ's heyday Of course it might just be that these games are past their prime as well, maybe they were better in the past, but I can't imagine how they could have been better than EQ.

The word "addictive" in Sony's ad for EQ isn' t to imply that you'll literally develop an addiction. They're trying to say that it'll be captivating and fun. If anyone has their original box for C&C Red Alert 1, they'll see on the back that it says "easy to play and highly addictive". It's a selling point, not a warning.

Lot of this game bashing nowadays is out of ignorance. The games aren't the source of the problem, they are mostly just a symptom or a factor in a whole puzzle. People who already have issues will search for a refuge in games like this, but they had these issues beforehand already. Also, it;s the interaction between OTHER people in game that causes the pressure like guild requirements etc.
Also, gaming is a subculture on it's own. If you're not into it, you mostly won't understand it.

I'm active duty Army and several fellow soldiers in my battalion all play various sorts of MMOs as do I. I've played MMOs since Meridian 59, which is preUO and preEQ. I've learned that the games are for entertainment only. The only thing people can describe as being addicting are the GUILDs that have stupid requirements. Raid guilds are the forefront of most of these crazy incidents because they push people beyond their limits. Which is why we made our own guild and a relaxed one at that.

There are alot of people who play this game and go to work and have lives. They easily turn the computer off when its time to go. SOE's everquest 1 and 2 are probably one of the best MMORPG's Out there. And its true games can make you depressed, but they can also bring alot of happiness.

His Mom wouldn't listen to him, and he probably didn't belong in his very religious family. He probably felt that killing himself was the best way out. He was wrong, HOWEVER...

I think this is the dude who got PK'd until corpse decay, I know there was some guy on our server back in the day who was PK'd till his corpse decayed, they literally had 6 people at a time camping his corpse around the clock. We heard he killed himself that week, then the same guys who corpse camped him killed all of his EQ friends when they tried to hold a in game funeral for him. I still think its funny. Memory is fuzzy though.

You realize there is no reason for such griefing? And I call bullshit. I have never heard of any such story. There was one similar situation I was in Pre-Velious, but the guild responsible was disbanded by GM Volot and the organizers of the event, the officers and Leader included, banned.

i'm sorry, but i cant see how they can blame a game on that guys death. Its sad and all, dont get me wrong, but if he's suffering from depression and becoming more withdrawn and his mom realizes this and doesnt do anything about or intervene or whatever, then what can you expect? it just sux that people are all looking for scape-goats for the bad things that happen in their lives. from her own argument, you could almost argue that SHE killed him. people should be careful how they publicly reason
