  • Immer wieder super: Sophia Loren.

  • While I love Sophia, Natalie Wood gave the best performance of the year as Deanie Loomis in the the unforgettable Splendor in the Grass.

  • what a tough year!

  • It's incredible to me that Deborah Kerr was not nominated this year for her amazing performance in "The Innocents".

  • The only problem with this is that Greer Garson accepted it. too bad Sophia wasn't there herself.

  • It just wasn't Natalie's year, I guess. But truly her finest performance.

  • sophia comes from Pozzuoli!!! like meeeeeeeee!!! :p

  • @riv4life618 Natalie was great , however it was Sophia ( who had the disadvantage of staring in a foreign language film ), who deservedly won the Oscar.

  • Haha I already thought : WOW she has changed!

  • Sophia, orgoglio italiano ♥

  • who disliked this???????????????

  • It was such a powerful performance! Well deserved. AND BURT LANCASTER. OMG ONE FINE MAN!!!!

  • Can't believe that Greer Garson at the Academy Awards!!!! She was pushing 60 back then right!!!!

  • "wherever you are" sounds funny

  • I love Natalie Wood, but her performance in "Splendor In The Grass" did not have the depth of that of Sophia's in "Two Women". Sophia's was a gut wrenching raw performance of fire and power second to none. Sophia did not attend because she thought they would never give it to an Italian language performance. It was a first and ground breaking award 50 years ago and most deserved one at that.

  • Greer always accepting the Oscars, haha! On Vivien's behalf and Sophia's behalf too. I love the three! ♥ Forgive me for my bad English.

  • @Lanalune That's ok your English is very good and nice to know i'm not the only one who noticed they don't make actresses like that anyone

  • I loved how Greer spoke on Sophia's behalf that was really classy

  • Greer should have won an honorary Oscar for classyness I liked how she accepted on Sophia's behalf P.S. This isn't the first time Greer showed classyness she also accepted on Vivian Leigh's behalf also

  • Greer Garson is class for accepting Sophia's Oscar on her behalf

  • @cyrecelestine Cmon give Greer Garson props for classyness

  • Sophia Loren is one of the greatest actresses in the world!

I love her, i love her movies, and she is BEAUTIFUL!

  • Classic.

  • I have no idea that Sophia wasn't at that Oscar night, when she won this wonderful award. But anyway, we know that "Two women" is a very strong and successful movie both in Italy and in foreign countries.

  • Burt Lancaster, Greer Garson, Sophia Loren,.....they do not have stars like them anymore!

  • @ToughXArmy69 Sophia Loren is several generations younger than those other names, who have been dead for ages!

  • @lotsacoolvids Brilliant observation.

  • Sophia orgoglio italiano e soprattutto napoletano.

I love my Naples and Sophia.

    She totally deserved this♥

  • @carmen260495 sophia è sophia... <3

  • Funny how Greer Garson accepts an Oscar from Burt. The previous year she presented the Oscar to Burt for Best Actor. I remember she commented "So richly deserved". Burt was very taken by the comment and mentioned it in his speech.

  • Didn't realize Gerry Page was there. I've never seen any pics of her that night. And she looks GREAT!

People: That looks like Millie Perkins to the left of Gerry and Oscar Winner Donald Crisp right behind w/program.

Natalie, seated behind nominee Stuart Whitman, is with Warren Beatty in glasses. And that's singer Andy Williams poking up 2 rows behind Warren.

Proxys: Greer looks sensational!! God I miss people like that! Look at that bearing! A STAR!!!!

  • I love Sofia, I love "La Ciociara" and her performance therein. But Piper Laurie was my favorite that year, and "The Hustler" is also brilliant.

  • @zim83 - Laurie was great in "The Hustler", but so was Natalie Wood in "Splendor" and who can forget Audrey Hepbeurn as Holly Golightly? What a face....so difficult to choose...

  • @broadjumper1 Yeah, good line-up. Not to mention the one that would come along the year that followed. Although personally, and I know this amounts to sacrilege, I was never a fan of "Breakfast At Tiffany's" nor of Audrey Hepburn in that movie.

  • One performance that truly deserved the oscar.
