  • DO NOT EAT this, it will make your blood sugar spike beyond reasonable levels, If you have to take no more than 10 cl at a time.

  • Love your videos.

Just curious, how long do you think this will last from your experience and should I refrigerate it? A lot of the ingredients say store at room temp but I'm not sure.

  • @shane472 Thanks! I store mine in a gel flask. Yes, if you don't put your mouth on it you can store it room temp. But if there is potentially some saliva on it, it'd be best to refrigerate. Also (as an aside) during winter months, I have noticed that it's helpful to add a bit more water so it doesn't freeze and become hard to get out of the flask.

  • @marckrejci

Marc, I'm probably just going to make a small batch to start with but I'm curious how long it will last in the fridge. All of the ingredients say they can be kept out so I guess it's not really an issue, but have you ever had your gel go bad or start to taste weird? It would be nice to be able to make a big batch in one shot.

  • @shane472 As long as your spit isn't on it, it should last a pretty long time out in room temp, no worries. I haven't really had any go "bad" on me yet.

  • i made this last night......THIS STUFF IS AMAZING.....it gave me a quick headrush lol of sugar......yummmy

  • @MrGentleman817 Awesome! Thanks for the feedback. Let me know if you modify it at all successfully for yourself. (I'm @marckrejci everywhere)

  • i never knew honey could freeze O_O

  • Hi! great video, but down here we don't have brown rice syrup. what could be a good replacement?

    thank!!!

  • What do you put your gel in to take it with you when you're running?

  • @scubascott1098 I used a "gel flask" made by Ultimate Direction. great product!

  • @Julian20o8 ha! Thanks for sharing, glad to hear it

  • great video i have to try this

  • i thought you were making hair gel!! my bad

  • so I would I consume this gel? I know stupid question...lol Do I just take a tablespoon of it before a run?

  • I might try that recipe

  • good stuff, gotta stop relying on Hammer Nutrition expensive ass products.

  • great video thanks ... made some for mountaineering / climbing !

  • @thomasdwilcox temps lately it's been in the teens/twenties around here. Curious if you've had any problems like I have had with it freezing. Thinning it out with water helps... but still can freeze

  • Keep it in the fridge, for sure. Will keep longer. What I do is pour it into my flask the night before and set it out on the counter to grab in the morning. Just be careful about storing anything with your saliva on it, as there is a higher likelihood to spoil.

  • great video! do you keep it the fridge or at room temperature? i'm planning to make a batch soon. prices of energy gels are hurting my wallet

  • Hey bro..should I keep the mix refrigerated and only empty out as much as I need into another container when I'm on a ride. I'm starting to cycle upwards of 2 hours or more a day..

  • awesome recipe. thanks alot keep up the running.

  • crazyboar, totally agree! Realized that I rambled on too much after reviewing it. But I didn't want to make another batch upand shoot again so I tried to just edit it down. If you like I've got the recipe printed on my web site aRUNsupreme [dot] com

  • This really could/should be condensed. 10 minute video?! I jumped and jumped to get the gist. Otherwise it was good!

  • brentkearney Thanks for the tips! No, I don't add peanut butter to this mix. In addition to a flask of this gel, I also carry a pack of Justin's organic peanut butter (justinsnutbutter [dot] com). I am now playing with a few chia bar recipes as well.

  • Thanks for the recipe, Marc. So, you add that sugar mix to peanut butter? How do you package it for your runs?

There are lots of good recipes for endurance athletes in Brazier's Thrive Diet & Thrive Fitness books.

One thing that works really well for me is a mix of raw almonds, cashews, walnuts with dates, sesame and pumpkin seeds, and sometimes chunks of coconut. All organic. Make sure you chew really well to help digestion, and of course drink water.

    Cheers,

    Brent
