One thing that can be said for Jay, he doesn't act a complete dick in these overpowered vehicles. Anyone else who'd get in this would try and floor it to see how fast it accelerates.
I would have realy liked to see the full dyno pull if that's what that was. I read that it gets better gas milage since the addition of the turbos and it gets loose in 2nd and 3rd I think... now after turbos. I'd say this man is spending his money propperly.
I don't even think Jay Leno can Afford the Fuel. I doubt the US Government or William Henry Gates could afford it. But you know what. It's got ALMOST 2000 HORSEPOWER DAMN IT!
my god if this thing wasn't sick enough, lets slap some turbos on it lmfao,,jay leno is insane, but i guess if u ride a y2k bike ur not considered normal
@86Ivar im pretty sure tank engines are stronger, because it was built to carry alot of weight meaning it must've had alot of torque. Torque is the heart of the car.
Well im shure not! the most powerful napier sabre would have 3000hp at 4000RPM and weight of 2300lb, where else do you think the power comes from than torque?
you dont need high revs for maximum boost, you match the turbos to the engines exhaust dynamics, volume, pressure, flow etc all play a part, a caterpillar truck engine might only pull 3000rpm but at 1500 up a hill that turbo will be fully spooled
So I guess a tank V12 didn't have enough torque for Jay's liking? Crazy bastard, he seems cool as heck, but it's so easy to hate him out of nothing but jealousy...
That's his politically correct answer. I think if he really had fuel efficiency on the mind, he wouldn't be driving a tank car in the first place. Anyways, how good can it be? An increase from 3 gallons per mile to 1 mile per gallon? He's got the money for gas, it's not making a difference to the world, but it is making a difference in horsepower.
i never said it was or wasnt. and it doesnt matter whether your talking diesel or gas the effect is the same. i was refering to the other comments posted about diesel.
ya superchargers are actually less effective, superchargers have to draw off the engine itself to make boost, turbos just run off the exhast, if you pit 2 cars that are exactly the same, except one has a super and one has a turbo, the turbo is going to win.
so would the good way to get rid of the lag would have a smaller turbo power up first then have a larger one kick in after? because if i can remember right a smaller turbo can produce less lag right?
Yes that works but it would be better to just have two mid turbos the same size. What has been done is people use nitrous to spool up their large turbos.
ive seen a commercial for some pickup that said it had 1 small turbo for low end torque & one for high end. it think it was a dodge, but i definitely saw it
would have to say i disagree with you there, a turbo may be able to make more power once it's spooled up, but a supercharger's boost it instant as soon as you open the thottle, that's why the drag boys use them instead of turbos
It depends what size turbo, you can make a turbo setup that gives boost at any rpm you want. Same with superchargers, you just change the size of the pulley. The problem with both is that they get too hot when they spin fast. So you can either be boosting in low rpms and too hot in high rpms or spinning too slow in low rpms and boosting in high rpms.
@SeizureBassist most of these "kids" think turbo means ricer running 6500 rpm... the have no idea that say a CAT acert engine could be boosting 70psi @ 1500rpm......I mosgtly just nod and agree, its the easiest thing to do :D

I'm surprised nobody has made any videos discussing John Dodd's "The Beast" car, the one powered by a 27-liter Rolls-Royce Merlin aircraft engine. Anybody else heard of it?
if it was a diesel engine it would not have spark plugs and unless he went back in time and recast the cylinder heads to allow for spark plugs then guess waht, it would still only run on diesel. and what are u talking about all that power? you gear it for the speed you want, where it is in the band makes no differance. a cummins in a dodge ram makes peak horsepower even less than 3500 dummy.
it would be possible to convert to gas but it really wouldnt be worth it... likely be cheaper to buy a new engine thats around the same size/output that runs on your fuel of choice
look it up, that engine was never run on diesel. u can't just change your mind about what fuel it runs on by changing what u put in the tank. you kind of need spark plugs if its gonna run on gas, diesel tend not to have that particular feature.
it doent have 1600hp if you read the banks story it was too much hassle with the tie straps and they de tuned it to a happy 1200hp i love it but shame the intakes or on the outside would love to see a 40 liter v16 dohc pentroof engine (64 valve) with quad turbos (normal v configuration intake inside exhaust outside) and 1 big f*** off water sprayed intercooler on the front (like a big rig grill) the veyrons great engineering...but nothing amazing (or new) search the sunbeam slug (look familiar)
