  • The guy that walked over to talk to the person in the car in front of the rear tire while it was spinning on the dyno pulled an idiot move. A little closer would have dragged him under the wheel.

  • must have the turning radius of a bus :D

  • hey..this shop is like my shop...you could eat off of the floor...the only difference is eating off of my floor would probably kill you

  • he should use bigger air filters

  • One thing that can be said for Jay, he doesn't act a complete dick in these overpowered vehicles. Anyone else who'd get in this would try and floor it to see how fast it accelerates.

  • NOW THATS A ENGINE !!!

  • It´s funny that this was done to reduce fuel consumption. The "negative" side is that the car went form 900HP to more than 1200HP.

  • incredible fantastic hard job...the engine is a continental fitted on M47 patton...?with turbo add..

  • Jesus Christ this is freaking crazy - I LOVE IT..

  • fuck the cheeseburger I CAN HAS THIS!!!!!

  • How many gallons per mile you gettin with that? ;)

  • @wacey2002 probably about 3 miles to the gallon with the turbos added to it.

  • imagine changing the spark plugs!

  • @luke26126 there are no spark plugs on a diesel genius

  • @apeingit247 I didn't hear anyone on this video say it was a diesel? how should i know?

  • @luke26126 This engine runs on gasoline not diesel fuel. You can read more about it on our website.

  • if every millionaire/billionaire did this sort of thing with their money...... what a wonderful world :)

  • @TimboSlicey which proves jay leno is america's car hero

  • Whats the point?

  • @ribtor why not? He's rich, has the money, so why not?

  • @ribtor

When you've got a MOTHERFUCKING TANK CAR, you don't need a point.

  • fuel economy jumped from over there to a gallon to kinda farther over there to a gallon

  • Holy Shit!

  • Who needs a Veyron?

  • i seen that car on t.v. and its badass, i also seen that car in gran turismo but i cant remember which one

  • @nickslayer1 I think its gt 2

  • I'm sure that thing gets alot better fuel economy with the twin turbos on there

  • I would have realy liked to see the full dyno pull if that's what that was. I read that it gets better gas milage since the addition of the turbos and it gets loose in 2nd and 3rd I think... now after turbos. I'd say this man is spending his money propperly.

  • Call me crazy, but driving that thing would be better than sex...

  • I don't even think Jay Leno can Afford the Fuel. I doubt the US Government or William Henry Gates could afford it. But you know what. It's got ALMOST 2000 HORSEPOWER DAMN IT!

  • yowza. dont need tranny. tires cant hold her.hahhahhaha

  • beautiful engine & beautiful work congratulations

  • only leno can afford the fuel

  • can u even imagine the torqe :P

  • @4runnerakadougy it says on wikipedia that jay lenos has 3000 ft·lbf

  • NCAAP rating anyone? minus 100?

  • Hey Jay Done any parallel parking lately?

  • lol its got a hemi lol this makes me feel better for not having cats.. so now a tree hugger walks up to bitch ill tell them to bother jay lol 2.5 mpg

  • What that car really needs is more torque.

  • my god if this thing wasn't sick enough, lets slap some turbos on it lmfao,,jay leno is insane, but i guess if u ride a y2k bike ur not considered normal

  • that thing is insane .... i want one too

  • When the pop off valves blow does the car go backwards through time?

  • @websuspect it's A distinct Possibility. hehehehee

  • yes its from BOSCH!

ps? :D wanna drive this :D:D

  • Why not a aircraft engine from ww2? would rock! and those engines are lighter too. but expensive...

  • its been done several times, people have put the old merlin engine out of the famous spitfire in cars.

  • @86Ivar im pretty sure tank engines are stronger, because it was built to carry alot of weight meaning it must've had alot of torque. Torque is the heart of the car.

  • Well im shure not! the most powerful napier sabre would have 3000hp at 4000RPM and weight of 2300lb, where else do you think the power comes from than torque?

    hp = (RPM*torque)/7161

if you have torque as Newtonmeters.

  • Good for pulling stumps.

  • with the better fuel milage im sure he can afford to drive it more now! LOL jk haha

  • Kind of annoying you never get to hear the turbos spool all the way. I want some highway vids or a decent 1/4 pull!

  • He speaks the truth!

  • You don't get time to spool the turbos all the way, it's a tank engine, they're made for insane torque, not running at high rpms.

  • Doesn't theUS militaries MI abrams have a turbine? That runs at pretty high rpm's

  • you dont need high revs for maximum boost, you match the turbos to the engines exhaust dynamics, volume, pressure, flow etc all play a part, a caterpillar truck engine might only pull 3000rpm but at 1500 up a hill that turbo will be fully spooled

  • Jay got style! HOLY SHIT

  • the engine is the size of a honda!

  • @maquino220 man's power son. man's power

  • Coool turbos :-)

  • The car is at Symbolic of San Diego right now.

  • Amazing car!

  • So I guess a tank V12 didn't have enough torque for Jay's liking? Crazy bastard, he seems cool as heck, but it's so easy to hate him out of nothing but jealousy...

  • No, he had the turbos added for increased fuel efficiency.

  • That's his politically correct answer. I think if he really had fuel efficiency on the mind, he wouldn't be driving a tank car in the first place. Anyways, how good can it be? An increase from 3 gallons per mile to 1 mile per gallon? He's got the money for gas, it's not making a difference to the world, but it is making a difference in horsepower.

  • I guess he was tired of having to fill up the tank twice when he goes to blockbuster to return a video.

  • you think he goes to blockbuster? naw, he buys every movie, just for the heck of it. even then, he probably pays someone to buy it for him

  • lol the fact you guys think he drives this daily is retarded.

arguing over nothing on the internet.....

  • @element774 yea no shit he has like 80 cars in his collection plus his daily drivers which im sure are a couple benz's maybe a roll's who knows

  • how can you find a tranny to take that? or any part like that, im guessing its all custom.

  • It's an Allison transmission from a greyhound bus.

  • @bankspowerinsider oh wow haha thats awesome

  • @bankspowerinsider the tank car also has the turning radius of a grey hound bus!!!

  • the driveshaft is also of a greyhound i believe

  • oh crap! theres no way thats going to break lol ever...

  • Just don't old on to that grab handle/redhot exhaust pipe when exiting vehicle! :|

    Pretty sweet piece of machinery.

  • hohohoho BOSCH tja LEUTE ALLES was geil ist und räder hat kommt aus deutschland xD

  • environment,

    ha

    whats an environment jay???

"i play ground for my toys!!"

  • sounds like a big turbo diesel with that turbo on it :D

  • for all you wanna be diesel gearheads out there look it up thats how all the big boy diesel motors work

  • Lizardtaimer Too bad it's not a diesel so you are in the wanna be category.

  • i never said it was or wasnt. and it doesnt matter whether your talking diesel or gas the effect is the same. i was refering to the other comments posted about diesel.

  • ive seen 16 liter diesel engines make 3000 hp and 5000 ft lbs of torque with that setup

  • i wonder what power and torque that thing has with the new turbos

  • for the ultimate response and hp the best setup is have a supercharger feeding a big turbo

  • i think better like a big turbo feeding a superchargera compund effect

  • Why wouldn't somebody go with a supercharger over a turbocharger? Are superchargers less effective?

  • ya superchargers are actually less effective, superchargers have to draw off the engine itself to make boost, turbos just run off the exhast, if you pit 2 cars that are exactly the same, except one has a super and one has a turbo, the turbo is going to win.

  • but what about lag? does a supercharger produce as much lag as a turbo charger?

  • No, they do not because they are run by the pulley system and do not need to 'spool up'.

  • so would the good way to get rid of the lag would have a smaller turbo power up first then have a larger one kick in after? because if i can remember right a smaller turbo can produce less lag right?

  • Yes that works but it would be better to just have two mid turbos the same size. What has been done is people use nitrous to spool up their large turbos.

  • ive seen a commercial for some pickup that said it had 1 small turbo for low end torque & one for high end. it think it was a dodge, but i definitely saw it

  • would have to say i disagree with you there, a turbo may be able to make more power once it's spooled up, but a supercharger's boost it instant as soon as you open the thottle, that's why the drag boys use them instead of turbos

  • I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU. AND WELL PUT

  • Thanks, Good to see some more straight thinking, lol. still think it could do with some NOs, seems a bit underpowered!!

  • not true maybe flat out but turbo is mainly high rpm no cornering supercharger is low to mid rpm depends on what your using it for

  • It depends what size turbo, you can make a turbo setup that gives boost at any rpm you want. Same with superchargers, you just change the size of the pulley. The problem with both is that they get too hot when they spin fast. So you can either be boosting in low rpms and too hot in high rpms or spinning too slow in low rpms and boosting in high rpms.

  • Uhh have you ever heard of semi trucks? the turbos spin at 1100 rpms.

  • @SeizureBassist most of these "kids" think turbo means ricer running 6500 rpm... the have no idea that say a CAT acert engine could be boosting 70psi @ 1500rpm......I mosgtly just nod and agree, its the easiest thing to do :D

  • @hotshooter2010 depends on type of race. Although turbos don't leech off the engine, superchargers have no lag therefore accelerate much quicker. On track or quarter mile the supercharger will win. turbos that produce more power than blowers usually have alot of lag. if you're gonna race with a car on courses with short sprints and/or quarter miles, supercharger is better. if you want better fuel economy or race on tracks with long straights, turbo is the better choice.

  • hey all what makes this engine a "hemi"? What does "Hemi" emphasize?

  • hemispherical heads. a lot of companies have "hemi" heads. for instance a integra gsr can advertise as hemi's also. cuase they are

  • thanks. its design.

  • 6 mpg 30L is not my idea of super car even with magnesium twin turbos.

  • It's not meant to be a supercar. It's meant to look interesting, and be ridiculous.

  • How can a car with tank engine be fast

  • Tanks are slow because they weigh like 40-60 tons, imagine what that engine can do when its put in a lighter body.

  • You'll rip apart the body of the car before you get anywhere... that's why the tank car needed extra reinforcement.

  • it's got alot of torque and it isn't pushing 50-60,000lbs and 2nd off with those turbos it's about 1600hp

  • A BIT UNDERPOWERED ME THINKS! LOL!

  • I think Kaz Y. needs to head back to Jay's garage and model her with these turbos...

  • Great idea but where's the dyno sheet, and driving footage.

Why did the camera pan away when it went WOT?

  • 600 more horses than the Bugatti Veron!

  • but it sure can't do 254mph

  • I'm surprised nobody has made any videos discussing John Dodd's "The Beast" car, the one powered by a 27-liter Rolls-Royce Merlin aircraft engine. Anybody else heard of it?

  • ragemanchoo82,

Yeah! Just look up: Top gear rolls royce . It will be about half way down on the first page.

  • ...so? its not like you're going to own that beast because of the fuel economy or the practicality.

  • if it was a diesel engine it would not have spark plugs and unless he went back in time and recast the cylinder heads to allow for spark plugs then guess waht, it would still only run on diesel. and what are u talking about all that power? you gear it for the speed you want, where it is in the band makes no differance. a cummins in a dodge ram makes peak horsepower even less than 3500 dummy.

  • it would be possible to convert to gas but it really wouldnt be worth it... likely be cheaper to buy a new engine thats around the same size/output that runs on your fuel of choice

  • yay! someone with a brain!

  • look it up, that engine was never run on diesel. u can't just change your mind about what fuel it runs on by changing what u put in the tank. you kind of need spark plugs if its gonna run on gas, diesel tend not to have that particular feature.

  • 29 1/2 litre OHV twin turbo V12 holy hell!

  • you should see a tatra engine from 1905. It had air cooling, single heads and dual overhead cams. By this age in history, this make this car crap.

  • it doent have 1600hp if you read the banks story it was too much hassle with the tie straps and they de tuned it to a happy 1200hp i love it but shame the intakes or on the outside would love to see a 40 liter v16 dohc pentroof engine (64 valve) with quad turbos (normal v configuration intake inside exhaust outside) and 1 big f*** off water sprayed intercooler on the front (like a big rig grill) the veyrons great engineering...but nothing amazing (or new) search the sunbeam slug (look familiar)

  • is it me or do those turbos seem a bit... small?

especially compaired to the size of the engine

  • lol, put alcohol or nitrous oxide boosters next, perhaps custom Hoosier slick tyres? 1998 f1 style deflectors for cornering, a front spoiler...

um a Vovlo road train tranny (it would fit)+ have the possibility of making the car 4 wheel drive and um say 4 intercoolers...

titanium braces to re-re-inforce the frame...

BMW remote control piloting as (clearly) no one would ever be insane enough to grab the wheel...

  • The Engine is Air cooled. with 2 cam turned fans atop the engine. thats it, just air cooled. keep ya warm during the winter lol

  • How does this engine get cooled? What is used for cooling?

  • Cam driven fans on the top of the engine. The monster is aircooled.

  • Jay's 55-year-old hemi motor makes MORE HORESPOWER (1600 v. 1500) then the turbine they use in the M1A2 Abrams MBT.

    Isn't that special?

  • M1A2 Abrams hasn´t a motor bot one big reactor

  • M1A1 and the A2 are powered by 1500bhp gas turbine engines.

  • Mothers little shopping car -

  • it will move the car to a higher top speed, and help acceleration everywhere except out of the hole. besides this car was made to be cool, and 1600 hp is sick. if you want, whats the point in having 300hp when a 150hp motor will get you going just as fast, eventually.

  • from what i understand he did this primarily fuel economy, but hell whats 810hp when you could have 1600hp!

  • I want that car

  • why on earth Jay thought he "needed" turbos on this thing is beyond me.

Somewhere in the archives of the '60's Hot Rod magazines, someone built a "streetable" 64 or'5 Chevelle with an Allison.

  • Thanks for the code jay!!!!

  • sherman tanks were gas powered, hence, they blew up easily, they were the zippo tanks, they lit first time every time baby boooooom

  • Isnt that the sane engine as the porche 917?

  • No, the 917 was a Porsche engine, flat opposed 12 cyl. No relation.

  • tank motor, sherman tank engine

  • Patton tank, actually.

  • When cars were powered by flathead V-8s, this alloy, OHC, hemihead V-12 petrol engine was powering a 40 ton tank. Shit, amazing. Only thing bigger would be the car built some years ago with a merlin engine from a spitfire.

  • thats a tank engine on a car...... pure litre/ton capacity right there..... absolutely bonkers

  • shes a brutal piece of engineering. thank god its diesel, though it does sound slightly out of tune

  • It is not diesel. It runs on PUMP GAS.

  • the most beautiful beast in the world by far!! gotta love turbo whine

  • wow that bitch sounds good

  • who reckons that 1600 hp would pull a full G when accelerating. PLEASE REPLY

  • not in that car at least, it weighs 9500 lbs.

  • depends what speed you're going at before you stomp on the gas.

  • the blastolene brothers

  • hp hte right way, drug free
