I'm from Schuylkill County, PA (just above harrisburg) and i can say that i've seen the aurora borealis once above the lake that I live next to (Sweet Arrow Lake). it wasn't nearly as bright or clear as the one on this video though. that's pretty amazing stuff!
I live in wv and seen red lights the day before Halloween but not sure what year it was. Maybe it was the same year as these. It was on the news because people thought it was a forest fire and kept calling 911.
I'm pretty sure I saw something like this around 2002 in Harrisburg. I was trick or treating with my friend, and I saw one of these (but it was red). It lasted for a really long time, and it scared me because I didn't know what it was.
@123456789114 Where do you live in Potter County. I used to live in Galeton and will be moving back there. As of right now I'm living in Covington, Virginia and sick of the heat down here, so I'm moving back home to Galeton in Potter County, PA where the nights are cool and comfortible in stead of hot and sticky nights in the mid to upper 70's at night down here in VA.
I used to live in Potter County, PA close to the New York State line...I have seen them there at least twice...once in 2005 and then again in 2008, as for Thekatieross from Phily, PA chance are you wouldn't be able to see them do to street light's of a major city...but if you was to go into the suberbs maybe then you'll see them if you was away from any street lights.
@trainsofamerica I love Potter County! I have traveled there frequently to stay at Cherry Springs state park. On moonless weekends astronomers from all over the east coast gather there, sometimes hundreds of people, all with telescopes, all happy to share views and stories.
Coudersport and the surrounding area are quite beautiful too.
@garysizer Potter County, PA is a really beautiful county, I'm currently living in Virginia and getting ready to move back to Potter County to a small town called Galeton not far from Cherry Springs so I'm sure you've heard of little old Galeton. I never knew that astronomers go to Potter County, PA....I guess you learn something new every day....lol
Maybe not in whatever part of PA you are from @btheman11, but it's rare in my part. I'm 42 and I've only seen it once. (Near Pittsburgh)
You're lucky!

It's not that rare. I'm 15 and live in PA and seen the northern lights tons of times with my dad.

I live in PA and always wanted to know if you could actually see the lights here. About what time did you tape this?

@nanderson8522 from the video's description: "During a period of unusually high solar activity on September 7th 2002"

in 03, when I was 8, there were orange northern lights in Harrisburg, and it was the greatest thing I've seen.

I neglected to mention that this was filmed at Moraine State Park, just north of Pittsburgh.
