Hey chappers, Just wondering in the first part of the circle of doom you descend the A mixolydian scale, My question is how come you alternate pick in this section?? But the rest of the circle of doom is economy picked? In the video you explain that you pick up, down, up and then down when you change a string.. Wouldn't it be better to pick down, up, down and then down again when you change the string.. Or is this section played with alternate picking just for a more aggressive sound?

The part at the end of this lesson where you played the whole thing legato made me want to cry lol. I've always had trouble with getting notes to ring when I'm playing that kind of stuff.

Economy picking is way easier than alternate picking!.Satriani sounds awesome with economy picking and buckethead sound amazing with alternate picking! I'd love to be able to do both really well... but being able to alternate pick well... you pretty much need to spend hours everyday with a metronome to get it extremely consistent, and I just can't help but jam out a gary moore number for 3 hours. But Rob your style is very smooth economy picking suits your 3 note per string licks so.. ROCK ON!

I started out with economy picking before anyone even told me what it was, and it's funny how sometimes when I need to play a lick with straight alternate picking I fumble because I'm so used to going up or down by two strings.

I agree however, I believe in paul gilbert and others tha use alternate its like walking left foot rigot foot and so on and you dont go right right left whern walking? Also there is different in tone and feel and rymthmatic between the two alternate my opinion sounds more aggresive!
