Where can you get these? Are they expensive? Is it possible to get them in America? Do they live well alone? Can you get them in California? My friend really wants one! She asked me all these crazy questions! lol
well,I was thinking on getting two or three of them myself,I got my information on an i-net site, which ias german, the right temperatur would be 15° celsius, and since they could grow to ca. 30 cm,you should have an big aquarium with lots of space on the floor.and how often you feed isdepends on how big it is,because when it is smaller, the metabolism is faster,so they eat more, but it slows down over time,so you need to feed less
please reply. i recently bought a new axolotl. i put them in the same tank. they are the same size.i watched for awhile and one of them kept biting the others tail. im not sure if there a boy or a girl their both around 6 inches. i have read that some stores sell tiger salamander larvae under the name of 'axolotl'.ones is black and one is blackish/charcoal grey. i am concerned about this. i have not heard of this before,
my axolotl swallowed a stone about them size on the vid any way its been about 3 for 4 days and he is still ok will he eventually digest it out :( plz reply
Actually little gravel isn't necessarily deadly to an axolotl. They do on occasion swallow smaller rocks but they pass them eventually. Mine had a habit of doing do from around 4 months to 6 months of age, but it stopped on it's own.
Ive always wanted to feed mine a small fish or even a tadpole. Let the fish/tadpole (tiny tadpole) swim around and watch the Axo chase it...havent done it yet, but I want to so badly lol
cold, fresh water. btw, your light is 2 bright for him, as a az owner and breeder, i suggest you give him more hiding spaces to get away from the light as this may cause the animal to get stress and die at a young age.
Yes I reads that they are very agitated by bright light, so never have a fish tank light on the top (they dont have eye lids so they cannot filter the light). So I have a sheet over my tank so only take it off on a dark day/night time. I love my fish & so do visitors. Have had him for 7years and the previous owner had him for about 2 or 3 years - how Old should he grow too?
Heh, where'd you get it? Cause I live in Canada where Axolotls aren't that common and I've been on the lookout but I can't find one from any of the major places. =/.
Yea, they're a critically endangered species so they're hard to find in pet stores. They cost 60-70 dollars. Make sure you know how to take care of these critters before getting them.
No they're not. They're easily bred, and are used in a lot of laboratory experiments due to their regenerative abilities. You can buy about 20 eggs for not much over a fiver. Also, they're easier to keep than most Tropical fish, and can even be fed everything from Earth Worms to Salmon Pellets. They dont even need that big a tank. Im sure most exotic pet stores, online or otherwise, would be able to help you acquire one. But yeah, make sure you look after the little fella.
Hello, try him on something like a small piece of prawn, or a dillie (small fish's sold frozen at pet shops) and use tongs or fingers to offer it right up to his nose. Their eyesight is not good, so he will be able to smell it this way. When i first bought Bob, he didnt eat for two weeks, then i tried the above and it worked. He wont eat pellets or blood worm, so i stick with prawn, muscles and dillies. Let me know how you get on!!
@charlietruman i have a question i am thinking of purchasing an axolotl and i needed to ask how many times a week should i wash it. what temparature the water should be and how many times a week i should feed them because people are saying that you only feed them 2 times a week but i dont believe that..im scared ill starve it. =(

do these animals usually get like a cloudy white thing around it? mine has it and it floats around the tank. i'm not sure if this is normal... is it?
Tizzy3113 1 year ago
@Tizzy3113
If i were you id go to a vet and ask help. It may be fungus. Easy treatment, for fish. So dont use fish meds on this little guy.:)
Make sure you have a filter in your tank, otherwise there will be fungus for sure. Also check the water every week/month.
Don't wait too long, just go to a vet asap!
Make sure you wash your hands with soap after putting m in the water.:)
