It is hard to believe Elizabeth has been gone for almost 17 years now. It is such a shame she died so young. What a beautiful person and fabulous actress she was. Anybody who has not seen the movie "Who's Been Sleeping In My Bed" should buy it immediately. Elizabeth and Carol Burnett teamed up for a hilarious film.
What a wonderful Star ! Check out her here on youtube in The untouchables The Rusty Hiller story with Larry Tate playing her boyfriend! What a Wonder she was! miss her.
Larry is such a g.d. 'yes man'! He can't even judge whether an ad campaign is good or if it's garbage by his own standards! You just want to throttle him! That's probably the most ANNOYING part of watching "Bewitched" as an adult. The best part is finally being able to understand ALL of the jokes--and even some of the throw-away lines given to Darren are the funniest stuff!
I LOVED the Serena shows. Liz Montgomery was such a good actress. I loved the way she would list herself as Pandora Spocks. When I was little I used to think she had a twin named Pandora.
I was born 1985 and i'm watching the whole series and this particular clip i was trying to figure out... is it a joke or a tribute to hipppiedom? i still don't know?! but i think it's hilarious myself :P
@thebrujaisbackagain It's a little bit of both. I saw a Documentary about The Beatles and how they brought the Psychedelic Look to Pop Culture. It had Psychedelic Kleenex, The Mod Squad, The Monkees, and this.
Elizabeth Montgomery and the Iffin' Song rocks. I love Bewitched. There is something really cool about the cheezy but groovy tunes that were created and thrown into the TV shows of the late 60s and early 70s. I can't believe that so many of the cast members of Bewitched have gone to the great cauldron in the sky. It remains a wonderful show in my heart. So glad I was born in 1960.
Yes to the other posters who remember it playing over the closing credits. That was twice as nice. (They did the same thing on Alice years later with "Let's Go to the Hop".)
jajajajajaj the best episode... wow elizabeth is so correct when is samantha but like serena is so funny and hilariuos jejejejeej my respect to you liz montgomery
This is one strange episode! Serena doesn't look or sound like her three previous appearances. It's as if this was a totally different character! When she pops up again in the beginning of the 5th year--she acts very different again.
Serena often disguised herself as Samantha. A part of this episode's plot was that Serena was originally mistaken for Samantha. For that to happen Serena (looking a lot like Samantha) is seen in the newspaper at a Sit-In and the Tate's think she's gone "hippie."
I remember almost falling out laughing at this song, because it was so bad it was good. I think that out of all of Samantha's "Family" Members Serena was without a doubt the funniest, even though she was a pain in the @ss and sometimes got poor Samantha in trouble.
I just thought of this song in the shower a minute ago, and here it is! The show was fun - but this song stands out as exceptionally cringeworthy, that's why I remembered it 40 years down the track! Thanks for the upload, and good on Montgomery for being prepared to put on such an embarrassing performance!
so glad you posted this video i could never remember what the lyrics were until now. also at the end of this episode as the credits were scrollin, she sang it again but i think (im probably wrong)she may have sung different words or a diff part not sure though =)
This song was supposed to be a satire of everything "mod" and "hippie-ish", '33Mark'- and Liz understood this by having "Serena" sing it in a sly, subversive style...who cared if it didn't make sense {the song was also heard during the closing credits- the only time the regular theme WASN'T used at the end}? And the week this first aired {Feburary 1968}, she appeared on the cover of TV GUIDE wearing one of the "mod" fashions from that episode....
I still don't understand this song...I didn't understand it when I was a child, and I don't as an adult. She doesn't want to be around someone who practices personal hygiene? That's gross. It doesn't matter if you look "wild and creepy," because that's the freedom of personal expression, but bathe, for the love of Mike!
When this episode ran originally, this song was used during the closing credits rather than the regular Bewitched theme. I wonder iffin' they'll leave it like that when the DVD is released.
I STILL REMEMBER them closing with Iffin'; I couldn't have been more than 10, and I thought that was like THE COOLEST THING EVER. (and at 45, I STILL DO!)
What a great show - me too! Imagine the real money they'd make if this were on today. Darrin died in poverty and still donated to the poor. God Bless them all. RIP.
"Hippie, Hippie, Hooray" was first aired on February 1, 1968, and was probably the first episode in which Serena really "stopped the show" (no pun intended)...
Elizabeth Montgomery said she had a ball playing Serena (and did you notice in later episodes that she was credited as "Pandora Spocks" (think about that for a moment!)?
