  • '' Your Mum." hahah lol. I almost fell out of mt chair when I heard that.

  • just to emphasize: the interviewer was stupid.

  • He is sooooo handsome and sexy. Too bad he can't sing. Not that he can't sing just that he doesn't have a show voice. But as he said, they were concentrating more on the story rather the music. However----the music is so incredible it was unfortunate that both he and Raoul could not do the music justice. Emmy, of course had the right kind of voice for the music.

  • AHAHHAHAHAHAH 1:54 just made me fall off my chair!

  • wow this interviewer was an idiot....

Gerry you are amazing! My favorite Phantom <3 ;)

  • What a stupid interviewer.

  • @InsanePuppy11010 Stupid comment.

  • @EmilyGreene1984

    likewise.

  • The interviewer is stupid and dumb. GB is great! Unparallel!

  • I agree wit you michael crawford was just creepy and sarah brightman is fat hehe. but gerald butler is the man and a beast in any movie

  • @claudi9000

Unless you can SING like Michael Crawford, don't even diss him.

Also, have you even read the book? Was there any HINT of sex appeal? No, there wasn't.

And too bad, I think I just replied to your comment.

  • @ObsessedJay

Hey have you checked the date on that comment? I've actually changed my mind since then, not completely but I do realise I sounded childish. I apologise for offending you, and yes I have read the book, I'm a big fan of phantom of the opera, okay I'm sorry for offending you.

  • Is it just me or does this interviewer piss me off! I mean the amazing questions you could ask him, and he asks the most stupid questions. god! lol

  • You can now shut up EmilyGreene and take your hateful ass off Gerard Butler. He's amazing and you can't just see that. I pity you.

  • Just because your Scottish doesn't mean you have to speak crudely or in a rough manner. And not doing so, doesn't mean someone a snob.

  • Some people really must have nothing better to do then vote people down just because they disagree with them - but I have yet to be proven wrong in what i said.

  • I'm actually part Scottish - if you must know. Most of the men, including my grandfather, on that side of my family come from hard-working, blue-collar stock. But, my grandfather has never spoken crudely to a single soul in all his life and is generally very respective of others. He is blunt, but never crass. The bottom line is that basically, not all Scotsmen act the way that Gerard and Billy do. End point. I'm sorry you feel the need to insult me to try to prove your arguement.

  • definitely not crazy about the interviewer, but gerry is amazing as usual! what a cutie!

  • I disagree, I think the interviewer was fine.

  • 1:54 scares me.

  • HAHAHAHHA! :D Agreed!

  • i totally agree Joel Schumacher is awful

  • ..... I adored that movie. Gerard butler was amazing and I thought it really was a fantastic movie.

And Mr. Butler is just FUNNY. Jokingly flirting, acting a little crude, those are things that ALL guys do. Deal with it, he's a real guy.

  • Why did I get voted down 6 times? Its true that Gerard Butler is a tremendous flirt and he himself said he does it. And let's be honest, he does talk crudely sometimes and swears often.

  • Actually, that's not true. I have never heard Dougray Scott say a crass word? (And he's Gerard's age) As well as the great Scottish actor, Nicol Williamson (famous for "Exacalibar" and "Return to Oz").

  • ok firstly, never heard of him so he mustnt be a great actor and Nicol Williamson (never heard of either) im assuming its a girl and women arent supposed to swear cause that not good. and ur only thinking of actors and stuff...Butler and Connelly we not brought up in the spotlight so they are just the average scottish men

  • Firstly, Dougray Scott was in "Ever After" with Drew Barrymoore, "Dark Water" with Jennifer Connoly, "Arabian Nights", amoung others. And secondly, Nicol Williamson IS a man, if you actually did your homework and looked online. He is a famous Shakespearean actor, but he's also known for doing films. Some of his modern work, that you may recognize are "Spawn" (1997), "The Seven-Per-Cent Solution", "The Wind in the Willows", amoung others. Next time, do your research before you make a remark.

  • bahahahaha i seriously hve never heard of any of those movies at all...and im not going to "research" for a stupid youtube argument...you're looking way too much into this. you still didnt answer when i said that butler and connelly werent brought up in the spotlight of hollywood and celebreties. geees do your research next time before you make a remark...and can i ask...are you from england...cause you sound like a snobby rich english bitch

  • I'm sorry that you want to insult me, when I have never insulted you. Anyway, I already said that Gerard Butler and Bill Connelly were not brought up in Hollywood glitz, although YouTube has not posted the comment. For some strange reason. The point is that yes, both they and Dougray Scott didn't grow up in the Hollywood spotlight (whereas Nicol didn't) - but I hardly see the point of that arguement.

  • eh im scottish and i dont have a dirty mouth. You must be very ignorant to think that. Have you even been to scotland?

  • u wouldnt believe me even if i told you. and yes i have been to scotland. every chritmas since i was 2. my grandma is scottish.

i'm not saying the rest cause you wouldnt believe it at all.

  • Well i dont know where your going but its obviously a rough area of scotland. And i do believe you. Im just saying your making a big stereotype for Scotland and thats not fair.Theres rough areas in every country. Gerard for instance is from Glasgow, which is known for its rough tounge but for instance in Edinburgh there very very clear. So it just depends on where you are in the country and what person your talking to.

  • thats not the part that i didnt think you would believe...you sound very reasonable so ill tell you what you wont believe

my grandma lives next to gerard butlers scotland home. i have known him since i was 2 years old from going there for chrissie dinner. he comes over for dinner at my grandmas house sometimes when i'm over there...believe it or not it's true.

  • Ok. But thats not the point. Im making. Im talking about scottish people not gerard himself. But thanks for replying with maturity. ;)

  • yeah unlike some people on here. and you called me ignorant =] take it back lol

  • Just because your being mature doesnt mean your not being ignorant

"Ignorant - lacking knowledge or information as to a particular subject or fact."

Thats exactly what your being when you say that ALL scottish people have a dirty mouth. So ill take that back when you take back what you said about Scots. And plus you could have visited scotland a hundred times it still wouldnt beat me , whos lived in scotland since i was born and know plenty of people that dont swear etc.

  • ok ok...i take it back. most people i know from scotland have a dirty mouth alright...yeah and as if i could "beat you" u live in scotland, i live in australia...and it's a stereotype. you probably think that kangaroos jump around our backyards and all we eat is vegemite...

  • No actually. I dont believe in stereotypes.

    Nobody should.

  • alrightie...mate you have like the best morals =]...

  • Im not trying to have better morals than anybody else, i just personally dont believe in stereotypes, now im done.

  • im not saying ur trying to have better morals you just do and its awesome just accept the compliment mate =] but i gotta ask...what do u think australia is like?

  • Alright, well Thanks. Em, i dont , a lively hot place? lol i dunno. Ive never been.

  • ready freddie im fucking scottish and damn straight i dont fucking have a fucking dirty mouth peice of shit.

lmao jk i do but not all scottish people do

OMFG GARED IS A SEXY BEAST I LOVE HIS ACCENT

  • hahaha alrightie i take it back chill...ummm ya i'm a guy so i wouldnt think he's a sexy beast im assuming ur a girl...did you read my comment under yours??

  • 1:54 is like a vortex on his face! oh wel, love that man

  • Oh, wow, your right! XD What the heck?!

  • @gjbjdcfan I still love him too even though he is a reptilian shapeshifter:)

  • he is so cute!

  • the interviewer's voice is so god damn boring

  • No. He wouldn't be a GREAT kisser, he is THE BEST!!! *I'm assuming... :-)*

  • Actually he look's like a fantastic kisser...I wouldn't mide giving it a try!;P He's absolutely amazing!

  • I love this interview.

  • for some reason he sticks his tongue while he's thinking. (he would be a great kisser!)

  • His always scraching his neck..

Not saying it's a bad thing.

But who does it during an interview....

    I heart GEMMY!

  • the interviewer doesnt sound too professional...

  • i heart his accent!

  • lol wow...this is kinda ackward were like youtube friends....lol...i think GERARD IS HOT

  • I KNOW!

  • gerard....oh just saying his name makes me melt <3

  • lol...i heart his accent

  • did you get to meet him?

  • his face just went all bizzare

  • I REALLY want to know which Gerry GOD KILLER clone this is????

  • Midnight tonight FREEDOM

  • I read somewhere, I think on IMDB that the director liked Gerard Butler's "Rock star" type of voice for the part rather than a more professional and clean sounding tenor.

  • I had an orgasm when i saw it in the movies and on stage

  • HOW DO ELECTRON PEOPLE HAVE ORGASMS?

  • Gerry's performance and singing as the Phantom was absolutely incredible! It was superb...

  • Actually, this was first performed and was intended for Steve Harley, not a tenor. Michael Crawford joined the London cast after Steve was let go.

  • After I saw the movie, I bought the DVD as soon as it was released. Last year I finally saw the show with John Cudia, who I believe is not a tenor but has the range to hit those high notes. His voice literally shook the theater. However, that doesn't take awaything away from the movie which I loved. I really wasn't critisizing Gerard Butler, I loved him, he brought tears to my eyes and he does have a very good voice, it is just that he doesn't have the range of a show singer.

  • om the interiewer is so calm and boring gerry is trying to make it fun. the interviewer sounds like dang ben stein. i love poto!

  • CAN ANYONE FIND I A BETTER QUALITY VIDEO, THE WHOLE THING EVEN WHEN HE SAYS ABOUT EMMY PLZZZZZZZZZZZ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Thank you

  • LOL "the phatom is cute but this guy?" WHAT R U TALKING ABOUT?!?! lol i love him and his scottishness,

gerrys alot more buff and a bit bigger then the phantom was, i think thats why he looks different.

  • i love gerry sooo much...he rocks and is sooo hot

  • what was the soccer movie?!? can anyone tell me in a message?...thx

  • Emmy? I think something happened in Gerry's mind when he thought about her...god, I'm such a pervert....

  • god he is a god!!! there schould be a SCULPTURE in rome with him NUDE!!!!

  • There is almost a sculpture of him. You have to check the tail end of Monica Vizeu's video she calls "Tha Gra Agam Ort." He is absolutely a Greek god in that picture. You'll see.

  • The interviewer SUCKS, he's too depressing! But Gerry kept it cool...:p

  • It's so cute how the interviewer is talking about Emily and he mentions his mom. Gotta luv Gerry!!

  • sorry to be kind of paranoid and if i piss you off but i really darn hate it when people call Emmy "EMILY"...

    ugh...

  • I agree with you. Especially because I had that problem until I was about 16. It's really friggin annoying when people can't seem to grasp how to say your name.

  • lol xD

  • I know that guy that is interviewing Gerry. He is here in Texas on channel 8. he is the movie critic. That was so cool. Gerry is awesome. You gotta love him!!!!!

  • His accent is sooooooooo sexy.

  • I agree! yummy =3

  • who did the interview? zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • It goes out of sync at 1:53. <<;

    Luuub Gerry.

  • He was the best choice for the role, absolutely! Hot, talented, mysterious!!!

  • wtf is going on at 1:53, that's one of the scariest things I've ever seen

  • haha, something cool just happened.

  • OMG thanks for sharing this is so beautiful<3.. He is definately the BEST phantom ever..:) it seems like i'm looking at the phantom w/out his mask...cOOl

  • gerard butler is the best phantom!! he's such a great actor i love him!

  • Gawds, he's such a cutie!!! ^.^

  • *final part, he-he*

So really this heated discussion is just caused by the frustration of unfulfilled expectations. Crawford fans wanted to see and hear what they were used to, but got something different instead. Doesn't mean that different is bad. Simply not what you like, that is all.

  • *more*

When it comes to the presence, I think here Crawford fans are just being spiteful. Butler's presence is mesmerizing! I couldn't take my eyes off him, and it's not even because he's goodlooking, since because of the mask one couldn't see the face properly. No, he does have a presence and he's very good for the role, far better than Travolta could have been, and although I like Banderas very much, I don't think he could be quite as sophisticated as Butler.

  • i know wot u mean i couldn't take my eyes off of him either.and he is totaly gorgeous!

  • *continued*

And here fantastic Crawford has been replaced with Butler. I think that fans revolted even before they heard and saw Butler in the role; the idea itself was unacceptable to them, and this prejudice played its role. And maybe Butler isn't a classically trained singer, but he pulls it off. It's only the real music fans who know in-depth what the range, volume, D-flat octave, etc mean, who can tell that he can't sing well. To me and millions of ordinary people he is awesome.

  • I've never seen the Broadway production, but I heard the recording where Crawford sang. What a voice! - no one can dispute that. But Butler is more than a pretty boy. He is very good as an actor; his pain is believable, his madness is scary, his obsession is right there. I completely understand Crawford fans: when something's been done and done so well and gained so many admirerers, it seems impossible to even think of changing that something a little bit.

  • i actually didnt know what this guy looked like until now my family is obsessed with opera and as for as singing hes pretty good

  • Bleeding R?ose I agree that Micheal crawford was an amazing Phantom but Gerry did hold his own very well

  • i agree entirely with suzee2. Personaly, i didn't really like MC, but i guess whatever floats your boat...but i do love the broadway and 2004 movie and book with all my heart!

  • xD us fans gotta stick together!

  • eeee! my favorite actor! i am so happy he was cast for this part. i mean, he brought so much emotion and pain to the phantom, the pain and emotion that was supposed to be there, pyshically and emotionally, and with his voice! gerard butler has the stage prescence as well. he is an amazing actor, he is so outgoing in real life and the fact that he could be so serious to be the phantom. he is gifted by God, and i hope he goes far.

o and thanx for posting this! :)

  • Your welcome savvylassie! He's my fave actor too! :D

  • God I love this man!! and YES he IS a AWESOME PHANTOM!! xoxox Jamie

  • No he's not married...yet....but the girl who marries him is sure gonna be lucky. I would say I want to marry him but he is more than 20 years older than me so it would be weird...well maybe not...lol!

  • Dear Ima: Seems to me Andrew Lloyd Webber, CREATOR of Phantom, would be capable of choosing the right man for the movie Phantom! Fairly presumptuous to think you'd know more than the guy who WROTE the opera! MC may have been the original, but never the best. . . (BTW, stage drama vs. movie = 2 entirely different acting requirements.) I believe ALW had the right idea--enhancing HIS story with a younger, more handsome Phantom to make the love triangle more believable!

  • Oh shut up Gerry. You know NOTHING of the phantom as a character. JXN764 I totally agree with you. If only i could reach out to these poor Gerry fans and show them the TRUE phantom of the opera. Oh my dear Michael Crawford, if only you would have been in the movie! *cries, then goes out to kill Webber*

  • Hey Jnx He was hired cause he can sing.who cares if he's hot?(wich he is)

  • love him!

  • Couldn't have but it better myself suzee2! I'm glad most of you enjoyed the video, thank you all for watching!

  • We'el, JNX, I canna' agree wi' yer thinkin'! But you are entitled to your opinion! I "discovered" Phantom last January on HBO On Demand and have watched it about 150 times ever since then. Gerry is by far the BEST Phantom ever. He wasn't cast to be a lyric tenor--Patrick Wilson had that role--and he was AMAZING! What a voice! Gerry had the grit and the panache to be a GREAT Phantom! I think he's just wonderful and I think Joel and Andrew made a VERY wise choice in him!

  • I TOTALY agree with you Suzee. xoxox Jamie

  • If you think that, then why did you bother watching it?

  • Maybe they watched it because they expected it to be as good as it was on stage. And it didn't meet expectations. Everyone has their own opinions on who a good phantom is. Personally I also think the Phantom shouldn't have looked sexy either, and I think the person who played the phantom could have had a better voice, not that Gerard Butler was bad, but Michael Crawford is uncomparable (except for maybe to John Owen Jones who I LOVE as the Phantom.)

  • Gerard Butler completely ruined Phantom of the Opera. He is the worst singer I've ever heard. He was only hired for his looks, Phantom isn't supposed to be sexy anyway. This movie should have been made in 1990 with the real Phantom Michael Crawford.

  • *gasp* how dare you!

  • He's not the best singer and not the best actor for the role, he was cast because he's marketable. How can he teach Christine to sing when he has no concept of musical theory. I don't blame Gerard for that, but Joel Schumacher was a moron. his reasoning behind casting gerard was "I didn't think Christine could fall in love with an older Phantom". The problem with that statement, the entire point of the play is that Christine DOESN'T fall in love with the Phantom.

  • awww...but Gerard Butler is too cute! How could you not love him as the Phantom! I think he was way better than if they had an older one! He has an amazing voice when he sang in there and I think they couldn't of picked someone better.

  • I agree that he is very cute, I loved him in timeline. But a role like the angel of music takes years upon years of lessons in singing. I've been training for four years now and I'm not ready to play that role (but I'm still a better cantidate than Gerry who can't hold a full volume note for five seconds.) He's much better at very tender roles, but he just doesn't have the presence to play Phantom. There were far more worthy cantidates out there. Like Colm Wilkinson!

  • Actually Christine did fall in love with the Phantom, but the love of her life was Raoul, and nothing could change that. She both loved and feared The Phantom.

  • later hater

  • Yes, but the directors wanted to make the characters appealing. Sorry, but Crawford is getting old and they need someone fresh with sex appeal. But I think Gerry has a very nice voice with a lot of emotion. I think he made Phantom of the Opera more successful.

  • Gerry's fantastic.But what a boooring interviewer..*yawn*

  • brilliant!

  • Sing, my Scottish angel of music!

  • Oh heck yes! ^^

  • SCOTTISH YESSSSS*drools*
