One more thing, from 0 to 20mph this car will beat most other cars off the line. It's slower from 20 to 30mph. We always drive it in 2nd gear. There's no clutch.
6 12V Batts drive the 40HP motor. This is strictly an "around town" car with a top speed of around 35mph. The range is about 12-15 miles. Full recharge is around 5 hrs. Goes about 150 miles on 23kwh. In our area, we pay about 6 cents/kwh. That translates to about $1.38 to go 150 miles.
I have a '73 Squareback I'd like to convert. Just wondering how long does the charge last with the 40V motor and 7 bateries- and is the power ok? Thanks for a cool Bug story
Wont you burn out the tranny driving it around in 2nd? How do you change gear with no clutch? Is it a semi auto?

There are two more under the rear seat, one additional for the motor and one for the accessories.
