jesus. this is a DIALECT SPOKEN IN NEW YORK. nobody ever said everyone speaks like this. but you have to admit, walking around for e.g. brooklyn, this accent is typical of what you would hear
This woman is full of crap - she has little idea as to what she'd talking about, and is she is a NYC native something is wrong, I'd say there is NO way she is.
Stupid bitch! There is no New York dialect. There five boroughs, each of which has their own dialect, and each of those dialects has many different cultural sub-dialects.
look people if you think she is doing the new york accent wrong then why dont you make a video on how the right new york accent is IF NOT THEN STOP BITCH'IN
this accent is not from new york CITY, its from new york state, mainly long island and staten island, you will never hear people from the bronx, brooklyn, queens, or manhattan speaking in this manner.
Hahahahaha, i know you comment is old but, you said you cant pronounce bar correctly and it made me laugh, because i just cannot say that word to save my life and im queens!!
I also have a very very "aw" and i drop almost every "r"...
i'm sorry, have you been to new york? i grew up in queens and have the accent. i have friends from all the outter boroughs, LI, westchester, and jersey with this accent. you don't find it in manhattan, but if you go to any italian, irish, or jewish areas of any outter borough or suburb, you're going to hear the ny accent.
on a related note, this woman sounds jewish. if any actors here are looking to learn how to play a mobster, look elsewhere
i'm actually writing this from Queens right now and thankfully I've never heard anyone who isn't from Staten Island or Long Island use this accent. I could see where you are coming from with the stereotypical jewish mother thing, but i think its alot more reminiscent of staten island girls who drink "cAWfee" and love to go "ShAHpping", from what i understand this accent used to exist mainly in Brooklyn [about 30 years ago] but from my experience that is no longer the case.
Are you serious? Which part of Queens are you from because although I reside in South Jamaica, I spend a majority of my time in Flushing and I always hear the accent being spoken. Most of my professors in school have it and even some of my friends do so I'm not quite sure I understand what you're saying. Then again, I noticed you wrote this 5 months ago...oh well lol
@punkgrl325 Ridgewood. Thats really funny, we live basically in the same place and i've never heard it yet you are familiar with it. I suppose this is a testament to the diversity of queens. Now that i think about it, there are probably 20+ "New york" accents depending on what particular pocket you are from.

I live in the Bronx and I have a really heavy "aw" sound when I talk.
And "r"s at the end of words seem to evade me as well, still can't pronounce "bar" right to save my life.

Yeah, I definitely agree with you. Sometimes I feel Queens is the most underrated borough despite being the largest. Kind of sad really.

But... not all new yorkers speak this way... i'm from new york and other new yorkers would agree.
