I regret my criticism of the guitar ,it actually sounds very powerful and beautiful in the hands of Viloteau ,but that is a testament to his artistry. Extremely beautiful playing ,could use a touch more fire at times but otherwise very well played.
Viloteau does milk it for everything he can, but many other guitarists can't pull that much "tone" out of a Smallman. Volume for sure, but not tone IMO. (One of my guitar professors would kill me if he knew I was writing this)
Its because he is playing a Smallman. Smallman's developments in bracing and use of ultra thin wood around the bridge produce a very large sound, which is an achievement for sure. However, I think that the extra volume comes at the expense of a characteristic sound. Its a trade off that I do not think is worth it, but many guitarists who perform in big concert halls have been buying guitars with the same bracing/innovation.
Lol, love it when people critique the guy who won GFA when he was 20 years old as if they could interpret it better...saw him play it. It was amazing. Can play it, but could never actually PLAY it...I just enjoy it watching someone who can actually interpret it instead of play it the same way someone else already has as if that were some sort of achievement. 5 stars for sure
it should sound a bit more agressive, like "nostovitch" said, its too gentle for Capriccio Diabolico, but its a really good interpretation, congratulations! =D
Good but I don't understand why so many people play this piece so gently. It's supposed to be menacing and dark and people play it like it's Romanza or something
Beautifully played. His guitar has a clean, pure and sweet sound to my ears.

VERY beautiful playing. Very expressive, very tender, very musical. This man has my deep respect as an artist at the classical guitar. KUDOS

Once youve seen Yamashita's performance, nothing compares.

@BLR1GBattlemaster
I don't think so. He is sloppy and his tone is harsh and he rushes through it.

His guitar sounds like a banjo,artificial sounding.

@johnquantran It was obviously recorded professionally. This is typical quality of a professionally recorded live concert.

NICE. He could use more vib when the theme begins. It is too flat for me, however, it is almost always clean and clear.
