@mikie2501 That bender is one of my favorite tools. I'm probably going to upgrade my camera soon. Thirty GB hard drive and an eight GB microSD card is more than enough memory. But the cam is almost 2 years old. I have no idea how long these things last.
@itscool1968 Tight as a drum. It's not an issue with a molded harness, but you saw how problematic it can be with standard flag terminals in one of my past videos.
@V8Jagnut The coil actually looked very clean. Not clogged with grass clippings and other debris. The landscaping crews that maintain model homes are really good at cleaning up after themselves. I get an occasional 'no A/C' call because the mower-pushers leave the breaker off after rinsing down the condensers. Mild inconvenience that is offset by their diligence.
@fyescas777 A buck-fifty to show up (for the first hour), plus material/parts. Our rates are very reasonable, but the most expensive/experienced techs will cost you the least money. A really good service guy will identify and repair the problem (in most cases) in way less than 60 minutes. The younger kids get into that second chargeable hour, but they get the job done.
Don't you just love reaching way down in a condenser and making welds? Definitely a required skill for this job. I like the welding blanket idea, I usually just burn whatever is in my way and keep my extinguisher on hand lol.
@mazzmari It's not my favorite thing to do but it needs to be done. No one's job is perfect. There's nothing I'd rather do than heating and air conditioning. Perfect blend of physical and mental work. I love that brazing blanket. I'm a tool geek. I like anything that makes my job easier.
@dizziedallas I'm pretty good with a bender, a torch and a stick of sil-phos. I always mirror EVERY weld because I'm really not as good as I think I am. That tubing bender makes work soooooo much easier. I think I paid fifteen bucks for it 20 years ago. A very worthwhile investment. No regrets here.
How did you know it was leaking at I/D coil if you found all the oil at the service valve?? Following behind the person that stripped the valve trying to pump the unit down to do original repair? My least favorite place to braze...inside the condensing unit, on the bottom, while leaning over the top.
@FilterChanger This wasn't my first visit to this model home being prepped for sale. I found the leak in the furnace closet with my trusty infrared leak detector. Oh, and all the oil around the field braze was a dead give-away, too. I pumped what little refrigerant was left in the system back to the condenser and found the service valve leak. I'm tellin' ya... if it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all.
Where did u get that brazing blanket?

Looooong arm service techs will be in demand from now on. These condensers are getting taller and taller.

What is the minimum fee you guys charge whenever you have to open system? Say this system, new filter and service valve?
