cant beleive how much negativity ther is here... i think its basically jealousy, slide guitar is extremely difficult to nail and you sir have the making a great slide player. Your not all the way there yet but you are well on your way and show potential that 9 out of 10 players dont have. just keep doin wat you're doin, listening to the greats, playing all the time, and you'll get ther soon enough, peace buddy
Let the scales breath a bit. Youve got great tone and are probably able to play clean but learning how to let space be your ally is just as important as constantly flaring through notes. If you ype in John scofield plays blues There is a good example of how letting space be your friend works.... as he starts messing around with the amp and stuff his timing on coming back to the playing is superb and the chord vamp in the back wouldn't necessarily be essential for it to sound good either!
yeah....I been playing the guitar for a good many years and I can't play that well. Of course with an audience of two dogs and a wife I don't guess it really matters.
Great tone - very good playing indeed. A little manic - I'd love to hear you slow it down so we could appreciate the nuances a little more. And thank you for honoring Duane with the closed-ended pill bottle slide. Where did you find it ?
For a 20-year-old (I assume you're 20 now?), you already know more than most when it comes to guitar-tone. I just started playing slide again about 6 months ago and I'm just now started to get comfortable with it again (I took a 2-year break from playing guitar after I joined a band and the lead-singer dropped dead immediately following my first gig with them). Slide is tough. You really need to stay connected to the strings (if that makes any sense).
lol shows how few people can REALLY hear music. This is awful, you're just flailing around and your not even keeping in tune. Slow down and try to play the notes in tune before anything else.
nice licks? lets see any of u say 1/10 of what this man just said? come on wrong key and ur brother" got it right"!!!!!!!!!!!! post it and u might get this man to note it, but i doubt it. thats the blues, brother and i love it!
you got it right... you got it tight, I think you''ve even seen the light....slow it down and let your soul take up the fight....and ...dude you are my slide guitar hero buddy boy.......
+1 I see alot of guys with potential but always seems to be the same rushing. I used to do the same, still do when nervous, focusing on the notes too much and not enough on the feel of the melody.
Tenés la técnica, pero falta sentimiento, tocás muy rápido y si bien uno como guitarrista aprecia la calidad de lo que oye, es realmente muy dificil lograr no dispersarse.
nice stuff, what gauge strings do you use? i always have a problem (with my strat), since i sometimes use it for slide but mostly normal playing, but whenever i use slide it tends to knock on the frets a bit, kinda annoying but luckily it doesnt come through the signal. this is with .013 strings though.
i ask because it looks like you use the black les paul for normal and slide playing together, wondering if you also have this problem. also i use a brass slide, that might be the problem...
your vibrato is a lot more like Rod Price of foghat who recently passed away ..he was much better when he was older ...his two blues cds are fantastic ..RIP...you have a great tone ...
I'm with all the folks saying slow down. You have the touch and the tone but it's too much all at once. Start slow and build, tell a story, otherwise there's no surprises coming after the first few bars and you lose peoples attention.
Not bad for 18, listen to Warren Haynes play these may be more accesible than Duane. You really need to slow down and turn down and go for those subtle nuances of Duane that Warren and Derek have picked up. You won't get those if your amp and stereo is cranked while you are working on it. Good luck!
Hey not too shabby man! Us young slide players need to keep our art breathing and beating for years to come! (I just turned 19 so....) the only thing that would say to you along the lines of constructive critizism would be to slow it down a bit and play it in the key of D like on the Fillmore East Album. Or you could play it in C like the outtake version from the Idlewild South sessions. that ain't a bad one either.
Nice slide playing! I can do it on acoustic, but on my electric I seem to get a lot of noise from the strings..Check out my 'cover' of Chevrolet by Derek Trucks
The playing is good, but you need to practice creating space and letting the notes fluently play into each other. Listen to the fluent playing and space Duane created on live at the fillmore, or for that matter listen to Miles Davis and John Coltrane on Kind of Blue and try to emulate that in your lines.
dude thats awesome ur 18 and u play slide. where im from my friends dont even know what slide is they all play power chords. im 18 as well i started playing slide about a year ago. im not great yet but i practice alot. all i listen to is this shit tho. u should listen to johnny winter, hes one of the best blues/slide guitarists ever. hes sick. btw u have very nice duaney tone. i have a epi les paul goldtop, high action, open e, but my amp isnt great. what kind of amp do u use
I havent picked up my guitar in a while. I used to play alot i even did studio work. today i saw this video and it inspired me to play again keep playing thats awesome. Also epiphone makes a great standard les paul i have a black one.
Yea this is deff like Duane he has a more rock n roll sound Derek has a bluesy sound its very definitive tho dereks sound when u hear him play u know right away its him but excellent job man love playin this song as well need to post a video of me sometime but you rock keep it up
Thanks for coming clean with your age! You play well for 18! No need to modify your age. There are alot of oldsters out there that "wish" they could play like you! sorry it took so long to reply. Gotta love the slide guitar and Duane Allman. Wail on, Skydog would want you to!
Not too shabby! But for a 11 year old you sure have alot of hormomes! I see a scraggly beard, I do believe. Next time lets see your face....you got the biggest hands for a 12 year old too.
Thanks man! ps If you open up the info box on this and all my other vids, you'll read "By the way I'm 18 not 11". I figured if I put down a younger age, people would usually be more inclined to view the video- and hey, it works!
@bluesbrotha15 I like you way more that your 18 -I hate these 5 year old virtuoso's whose parents forced them to play-it takes away from the integrity for all of us that picked up the guitar hopeing to change the world and have an outlet during ruff times.Even Duane and Jimmy didb't master the guitar until they were in their mid twenties
Dude - that Epi Les Paul is no cheapo ride, I have both Gibson and Epi Les pauls and the Epi's play way more than their cost.....treat it with care......
