  • good thanks you

  • thubathubapop XD lol

  • Dear Slap Professors. Please teach us also how to set up tones on the guitar and amp for good slaping sound. Without proper tone setting one won't get far

  • @MrNibyNikt scoop the mids

  • @MrNibyNikt so true! until now, I'm still not so sure if I'm turning the right dials hahaha XD

  • huhh haha huhh...

he said "pop the g string out"..

  • THUMB POPPITY THUMPER POPPIN POP!!!

  • Shit , his thumb shakes after thumps O_o

  • THUMB POP THUMB THUMB POP XD Good Lesson ma8 ;)

  • is he saying thumb or thump?

  • I enjoy popping the g-string out as well

  • good stuff. thanks!

  • Nice sounding bass!

  • very nice!

  • fucking wicked! thanks for the assistance

  • higher ground?

  • funny voice at 0:44 :D

  • You must slap with your middle finger, like flea, men!

  • Thumb (pop) ups :)

  • I recommend learning the double- thump right away instead of hammering twice in a row with your thumb. So instead of "Thump (Thumb down), thump (Thumb down), pop (pluck)" it would be "Thump (thumb down) ,Thump (thumb UP), pop (pluck)"

  • i would like to know if that is a song ?

  • awesome.....*clicks suscribe*

  • mmm lo intentare

  • Yeah, u can pop my g-string any time, handsome!

  • Hello,thanks for this lesson.

You Make me wanna be a better bass player. Thank you and God Bless you.

  • what kind of bass is that?

  • Lol 0;44 the guy whispering XD

  • popping a little too hard

  • he pops way to hard, he's going to break allot of G-strings like that

  • Geddy Lee only plays 4 string, he feels cramped on anything more. Sometimes he plays a Jaco Pastorius Bass

  • its funny because you talk in tune with what you are playing

  • omfg he almost threw the bass to the floor omfg

  • thumb thumb pop!

    nice share dude

  • GOOD LESSON, BUDDY, THANKS.

  • thank you now I got the triplet feel much better

  • Crystal clear. Good one.

  • Just snapped a string doing this. THANKS ALOT!! .. hehe

  • i feel sorry for your fingers

  • well it really helped me out. cheers

  • you sound like the asian dude from mythbusters

  • ha i love the dude whispering "a octave"... too funny

  • my goodnes...i start playing bass a week ago, i play drums for a bout 10 years. I am looking at this slap/pop technic and thinking ill never learn, piss me off...gosshhh i can't do it

  • just takes long practice :)

  • @slivovich It comes with time. I've only been playing for a year and a half on bass and there's been tons of progress. Give it time, just like you did with drums. :p

  • @slivovich take it easy

  • Awesome!

One of the best examples I have seen of this technique on YouTube - many thanks dude.

  • awesome.. btw nice guitar

  • I haven't got bass :<

  • If you play a lot of rock or metal. There is just simply no substitution for a B string. Having to drop tune all the time sucks. And I think the B has it's own raunchy grunge.

  • you is very fast

  • I'm not gonna trust some one who doesn't even know they're notes haha.

  • you are damn funny gl i learn a lot

  • This shits easier than it looks.

  • wow

these two videos have helped me a lot!

    u are a ery good teacher :)

  • papa pop!

  • nice one..

  • slap it .like your mad at it ?

  • thumbpop

  • sam sam pop??

  • Where I can to see your lessons? I'm very interesting for these (...slap lessons)

  • What is the Camera-Man whispering at 0:44?

  • thats what my old lady says all the time to pop the g string must be a g stirng kind of thing

  • ajjajajajajaj... jajajja... comprendí la broma jajajja.... good one !!

  • Cool, i just learned how to play yesterday..and i got it too lol...i taught myself...look at the video i put up (me playing my first song) thx.

  • Yeah man, all the 4 string bass players are real terrible, like Flea, Geezer butler, John Entwhistle, Cliff Burton.

  • Sarcasm I'm expecting.

  • sarcasm?

  • lol. totally presuming thats sarcasm :P plus, billy sheehan, marcus miller, victor wooten, jaco pastorius, larry graham, jeff berlin, pino pallidino. the list goes on.. and on,,,

  • Sarcasm. I likes.

  • Chris Wolstenholme from Muse uses a four-stringer.

    Gtfo.

  • like u could do anything as good as they can anyway.

  • I think I may be the only one to get the sarchasm...at least I hope it's sarcasm.

  • Can't you thumb-down-givers see he's being sarcastic?

  • wow the dumbasses that thumbed down ur comment oviously dont know what sarcasm is

  • Geddy lee sometimes plays 4 string bass, he's amazing.

  • @seanLFCcoyne Geddy Lee always plays 4 string bass, and yes he truly is amazing!

  • @seanLFCcoyne Geddy Lee always plays 4 string bass, and yes he truly is amazing!

  • @seanLFCcoyne "sometimes"? You mean always! :-)

  • @seanLFCcoyne you mean always plays 4 string

  • finally a good slapping and popping lesson on youtube,, finally got it rigth after years on trying to figure it out lol

  • why start with 5 string? iv been playing 7 years with a 4 stringed...just bought a 2 grand 6 stringed from the U.S (there no basses in eng) tis pretty metal.

  • n1 dude

  • you dont need a 5 string for brutal metal. Remember that alot of brutal metal dont have 7 string guitars, which is the same principle, a low B string for that added grunge. Can be good, but you dont need it. Just have drop C or D, that'll make it nice and deep

  • A five string bass has the same amount of notes as a 4 string. I fail to see why getting a six string opens you up to more possibilities. Yes, you can hit the low B, but really, you could always just hit the normal B, and the octave. Also, bass isn't hard to learn? What are you talking about? It's challenging to learn a lot of things. Also, many bassists have their own style and skill.

  • The octave that you play something at is very important. Go play a guitar solo 2 octaves lower and play the bassline beneath it 2 octaves higher. Let's see if it sounds even nearly as good. Advantages of a 6-string: The tone of each string is different due to the different thicknesses. You gain access to more harmonics. You can play larger chords. More strings make 8-finger tapping easier and gives it more possibilites. If you truly want to explore the instrument the 6 strings can be handy.

  • nice vid

  • omg i seriously cannot do this!

  • lol that mans hand is on speed. Ive only played acoustic so far but Ive got no talent for chords. Vids like this are a big help as I try to learn base, thanks.

  • hey man you should adjust the angle of the neck of your bas....look the strings are not centered in the fretboard. the E is to low

  • is it suppost to hurt??

  • 2:51 - 3:01 "your'e gonna go (talks with a very clear voice) THUMP THUMP POP...." LOL That part was so hilarious :)) No seriously. Great lesson !! :D

  • ..Octaves !! ...the back bone to Slap...it has come along way since then....practice scales using this method, like Vic Wooten. I posted some new ways using this technique on a Bach Solo...feel free to have a look. Rock on !!

  • its the same pattern taht higer ground

  • No. The Higher Ground line is mainly the E and D strings. The rhythm is different from what this guy is playing too.

  • this is a good video because you can see what his right hand is doing

  • Kick Ass!

  • the only good thing about the low b, is just u can basically play any low note on it and it just sounds like a bass drum lol. its good for keeping the beat when u slap it.

  • "POP THE G STRING OUT"!!!!

  • when i come to malaysia last year, i was watch live perform from there..nice bass skill in that song...(HATI EMAS) by KEMBARA...70s band...really good...-ritz jamaica

  • i think that a 5 stringed bass is the best thing you can have i personally have a LTD F-105 wich is awesome btw !!!!

  • I remember, when i was about to buy and play bass guitar :). But i bought acoustic one and in future i got plan, to buy an electric guitar :D. Anyway, it was first bass movie i've seen, so respect. Five stars ;).

  • THUMP...POP!..THUMPTHUMP POP!

  • flea=best bassist, flea kicks ass

  • rlly useful thanks

  • it sounds like higher ground

  • cool

  • I'll play like you someday I hope :)

  • OH MY GOD!! i can't do that shit. he's gotta be the best bass player in the world .. !

  • lol pop the g string ha, and btw flea kicks ass

  • nice..

  • the slap pop slap reminds me of under the bridge bass line

  • your strings look really loose

  • it's because of low frequency light :)

  • strings look loose ..... may be because the STROBE EFFECT of the camera .

Try to strike a string or rubber band in front of the TV (close to the screen)

  • With a gauge large enough, it's better to loosen your strings, it also give you more leeway to really make them ring, especially when popping.

  • its the frame rate of the camera.

  • This is A BEAUTIFUL LESSON

  • i thought it was flea:D

  • thanks a bunch. can i use some part of the progression for a song? or did u copyright it?

  • SA-SAM PA!

  • Hehehehe

  • hahaha, u all right man, sounds funny.

    but nice vid man

  • EXTREMLY well-described lesson! Helped a LOT!!!!!!!!!

  • FUCK!!

how fast can you pop after you slap, so freaky, hardly see your hand move. It's just a blur :P

  • I'm planning to buy a bass guitar with 5 strings but, I'm a beginner.....should I by with 4 strings? I wat thinking with 5 becouse letter on if I need with 5 I dont have to buy another guitar just becouse I'm missing one string. What would you suggest me?!

  • playing with 5 if you are a beginner could be interesting...but much better to start with 4. buy a five later, since 5-string bass is uncommon.

  • i wouldnt recommend a 5 string. 4 strings are the way to go especially if your a beginner. unless you play real jazzy stuff. then a 5 or 6 string would be recommended

  • Muy a five stringer if thats what you really want.. i suggest go to the store and check em five stingers, six stringers and four stringers and decide.

IMHO 5 strings and knowing different tunnings is more than enough but that is just me :).

If its your first bass i recommend squier pretty descent for the price.

  • What music r you going to play?

  • the low B string is not that necesary, most bass players use 4 strings all their life and do just fine, and for a begginer the less strings u have the less confusing it would be, i say just go buy a 4 string

  • man the low B is the greatest thing thats happened to the bass....who cares if every other bass player uses a 4. the low b is cool because it allows more notes to be used...use it to be creative in writing your own music....of course i dont reccomend one for a starter because most starters dont start by making thier own songs..the start by learning songs they like and most bass players dont use 5 strings.but if you want to expand your range and you love the sound of that low be like me, get one

  • plus the B string is really annoying for beginners because you always have to compensate a half-step.

  • Really brutal metal needs a 5 string bass. I have a 5string too. And I'm a beginner. Maybe it is a bit harder, because you have to care about the plus string, but I think it teaches you to be careful and makes you concentrate on what you are playing.

  • wtf ive a 5 string bass too, but for "real brutal metal" u dont need it xD wtf u are really retarded

  • No matter what you play, you should concentrate on what you are playing.

  • actually it kinda makes you have to be a bit more precise and you have an extended lower range...oh and i have a Ibanez SR700

  • sweet im getting an Ibanez SR300 :D

  • first learn bass then add strings...

master one thing after that go with harder stuff... Trust me I know i've been playing for years and got 4, 5, 6, 8 and 11 string bass ... but start at 4 and progress from that...

  • I started out with a five string, and it works fine for me!

  • 11, HOLY COW. tuning that thing has to suck.

  • well that's an interesting point of view but i don't think that playing a four string means just playing easy and simple things ;)

well this is quite a good lesson but he lets the unused strings ring all the time which just sounds terrible

  • I don't know about that. Marco Hietala (Nightwish) and Michael Lepond (Symphony X) both use four stringers. I would consider their bands pretty heavy.

Though, I do enjoy Five string basses too. They often have slightly closer string spacing which makes string skipping/travel a tad easier for me. Also, having the lower quarter note tuning can allow one to play the same notes/scales as they would on a four string, but without reaching as far down the neck. And that's easier on my wrist.

  • Also, Paul Gray (SlipknoT) played a four string. He used to put out amazing lines.....

  • nightwish is heavy?

actually nightwish is ok for me and btw im from finland (so is nightwish)

  • yea, les symphony x's bassist is a beast. check out in the dragons den and listen for that solo in the middle, beastly

  • wow

  • I have 3 4strings and a 5string. If I'm gonna slap or tap, I use one of my 4strings, and if I am going to play solo's, or what you can call "normal" bass plying, I use my five string. IMO, tho, If you play the D, C#, C and H on the lowest string, you get an insane rumbling when playing with others. Also, It has to be absolutely perfectly tuned to be good...

  • @JAldwin noo im in a heavy band and five string is alot better cause it has a deeper sound thats good for bass drops

  • my first was a 5 string

  • Like an idiot I went n bought an expensive Ibanez 5 string for my 1st bass, on the basis that it looked badass and was similar to feildys from Korn. lol

Will it be really difficult for me to learn on? Hope it's not too much of a disadvantage. Any advice?

  • I don't think it'll give you too much trouble. Just try to learn songs that are used by 4-string bass players and then try to add some notes from the B string in it. My first bass was a 5-string, and I mostly just put my thumb on it just to have a place to put my hand.

  • mine was 5 too. in my opinion its easier later if you start harder

  • I agree. My first bass was a 5-string. It was hard at first, but it was no biggie. most the time I just put my thumb on the string, but seeing it helped. I picked up a 6-string the other day and actually was confused, but i know if i would have started with that everything would be easier. But hey, to each his own.

  • go with 4. 5 is a lifestyle. some of the best bassists play 4 strings. plus 5 would be confusing for a starter. its only good if you're playing music that really uses it. besides, dont shell out a ton of money for your fist bass.

  • agreed, Victor Wooten for example :D i saw rly good videos with 4 string bass!

  • i recommend u....to star with a bass of 4 strings....

first u have to dominate 4 strings...

    to can daminate 5 strings...

is very logic...n is the most recomendable

    take kare

  • depends on your music style! i personally love a simple 4 string, but if you play more hard rock-oriented music, id maybe go with the 5 string. five strings also sound pretty good for praise and worship music at church. also, 5 strings are often much heavier, if that matters. and it is a little more difficult to play, especially slap, because there is less room between the strings.

  • Buy whatever sounds nice and feels good.

  • Start off with a 4 strings. Because 5 strings can be confusing to a beginner. First just start playing bass, thenif you really like playing bass and ur good, you could plan to buy a 5 string if you really need it for what you play.

  • berakkk lama lu....tumb up,thum up all the wayy,, shitttt...........

  • malisimoooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!

  • guys he's kind of right. The proper way to slap is to put your thumb right near or over the fret board. It sounds better

  • Great video, thank you!

  • Very good lesson thanx. You guys should do more bass lessons.

  • He said what octive is that on to the dude next to him haha!

Good job dude thx i learned alot

  • "Pop the G string out" rofl...

  • i believe he wanted different tone coz u'll get different sound when u thump on the fretboard..

  • when I THUMP on my bass it doesent sound like your gitar man :S:O

  • I just have to thank you for the very good introduction for bass-slapping. I've been wondering for some time how it really works and this was a very good start for developing further slapping.

    Great job!

  • I place my thumb just like him : you get a smoother sound. There's no rule buddy...

  • thump pop

  • not bad man it really helped me to get a better slapper! thx!

    5stars

  • AWESOME LESSON!!

  • GRRRRR i just cnt seem to slap and pop. Would it be because ive got ruber covered type strings?? thanks =)

  • thnks man..helpd me a lot.. i use 5strngd bass..nd i'm stil a beginer...ur vid helpd me a lot tnks me..more power..

  • no it shouldnt, the sound from the slap comes from a swift slap, not the string hitting the fretboard. watch any good slap/pop player (wooten, flea) and they all slap over the pickups

  • you don't have to it's all about comfort

  • your awesome man ,sick lesson

  • haha, i love the tone in your voice when you say THUMP and POP!!
