A quote from the filming of Saruman's death scene in the extended version of The Return of the King (when Saruman is lying impaled on the water wheel spike): *Sigh* "This seems so familiar. 40 years ago, I looked up and saw Peter Cushing. Now I look up and I see Peter Jackson."
okay. i am confused. "COUNT" "D"ooku------"COUNT" "D"racula. for those who dont understand my point send me a personal message and i will explain it to you like you are a 5 year old
Ah Max Schrek, the depravity of undeath...ah Bela Lugosi, the cold and manipulative mastermind...ah Christopher Lee, the mind-dominating demon...gone are the days of the shadow-lurking bogeymen...now blood-drinking corpses and the demon-possessed dead stand as sex objects and romance figures...how I miss the old nightmares...yes I know I'm a dork bucket...
It's also a pity he himself got annoyed with how the movies went and with the role whether in terms of dialouge or lack just the fact they might have given him the same curse as Lugosi, and from what I've heard he doesn't even sign autographs for Dracula anymore. I hope that's not true as it's one of his really powerful performances. What annoys me was Dracula's presence in Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires. Ignoring Lee not playing him, he felt forced in and then beaten with ease.
Personally I never really liked how Dracula seemed limited in these movies as he couldn't transform or anything and still kinda prefer Lugosi just a little more (I saw Universal's horror films before Hammer's so I'm somewhat biased) as he captured the mood and voice even before he learned how to speak English, but yeah Lee is a close second.
I agree! It is due to him that I have a love of all things vampire. My nan used to allow me to watch the hammer horrors when I was very young. Mum and Dad wouldn't approve, but nan (god bless her), didn't see the harm. I was mesmerised by C Lee! I must have been 7 years old and didn't know why I liked it, I just did!
That's a bit of an unfair comment - both brought a presence into the role. Personally I prefer Lee - he seems a little more like a lord of the undead, and acts brilliantly (though I admit, he was in one or two lousy vampire films)
He is a really gifted actor. Till now I can never read the word "dracula" without imagining him, likewise, I can never read the word "Bond" without imagining Connery.

Ever the obliging husband, I watched "Twilight" with my wife.
I then immediately re-watched "The Horror of Dracula," "Dracula, Prince of Darkness," "Dracula Has Risen from the Grave," and "Taste the Blood of Dracula," as well as the 1931 "Dracula" with Bela Lugosi.
Thanks for posting this. It is one of the best tributes to Christopher Lee and traditional vampire movies that I have seen to date.
Can you imagine Christopher, Jack or Bela "sparkling" in sunlight?
The 1970 'Dracula' film with Frank Langella is definately worth watching too. It was close to the book, more so than the film with Gary Oldman, which I don't recommend to a Chris Lee fan.
Lee is the Dracula! My best tv memory was in the 80s when we finally got more then two tv channels. one of the new upstart channels started playing these vintage horror fliks. I still laugh about a commercial for the upcoming 10:30 satnight movie It was D-risn frm grv. The local station put together a great promo showing various scenes. When Drac slapped Zena the nar-ater said about him, "he knows how to handle his women" Can you imagine this today! in our pussified PC world!
Renato Mofati 15
As a kid it was always Lee's Dracula who captivated and terrified me. Lugosi was admittedly great; he was creepy as hell, but Lee was another order altogether. Suave, sexy, commanding and bloody terrifying. He could achieve the feral essence of Dracula long before special effects took over.
While I admire Gary Oldman's performance as the Count (it was a superb show of acting dexterity) he never scared me.

Of all the Dracula tribute videos, this is my absolute favorite! Oldman and Butler get a lot of praise, and even Lugosi get's some love, but Lee is overlooked a lot these days.
