Well, I know the University of Hawaii athletic teams plan to start recruiting out of Asia... Coach Gib Arnold of the UH basketball team wants to put on an exhibition men's basketball tour in China and Japan this summer and coach Greg McMackin of the Hawaii football team has put on some clinics in Japan. If Hawaii can succeed in building a fan-base and recruiting pipeline in Asia, they can start recruiting the best talent out of Asia, and open up the Asian sports market.

I think that such sports in Japan opens an emotional outlet that is otherwise shut very tightly in such a reserved and well-mannered society. Japanese athletes and especially their sports fans are very passionate. I hope the ride this wave and build strong American Football teams. They produce some outstanding Baseball players as well as computer football games. They have Judo and brains. They aren't that far from giving us a run for our money if they recruit some American players.
