It's not so much "innocence" as it was that people had more class and maturity in their conduct. Today, "adults" are extensions of their teenaged development and never advanced beyond that. Hence the self-centered attitudes and "broken fingernail" drama.
Actually, there is so much similarity between TTTT and IGAS and especially between IGAS and What's My Line, that they really could be considered variations of each other.
As I understand it Allan Sherman went to Goodson/Todman with the idea for IGaS and at first they turned it down, saying it was too closs to WML?. Sherman supposedly replys "Well, you know someone's gonna make money with a rip-off of WML? It might as well be you guys." And GT agreed.
This was back when both TTTT and IGAS went out live from New York. I really liked the syndicated TTTT better than the network version. I though Garry Moore was a great host and the panel of Cullen, Cass and Carlisle were great. To bad GSN doesn't show any of the syndicated TTTT anymore even though they have over 1,700 episodes to air.
So was the night of Jan. 18, 1965 on which the "TTTT" and "IGAS" panelists switched places . . . and the week before that when Miss Cass, her fellow "TTTT" panelists and host Bud Collyer appeared on "IGAS" to play, according to one website, a hybrid of "TTTT" and "IGAS." All these things, plus this example, pointed to the direction the syndicated "TTTT" would take.
Garry Moore was the Best Host of Both I've Got a Secret and To Tell The Truth!
