Rattlesnake roundups & felony animal cruelty are OK in Oklahoma

I had been looking up 'rattlesnake roundup' after watcing something on the NatGeo Channel, and wow they never said anything about extreme ignorance and cruelty like this. Thank you for putting this video and may the snakes be saved. Keep working on reporting such acts so that those horrible people can get what they deserve.

@Sophies09Mommy sadly, PETA has been known to simply make matters like this worse. I'm sure people have tried before, but they don't really try to help snakes much anyway.

@awana45 That is exactly why we wanted to do it ourselves - plus, it is obviously a home made simple video - we wanted to show folks that anybody with a camera can do this. It is done now, but it will do no good at all unless folks call, write and call again. If they sound like animal rights activists or are not civil, it will not help matters at all.

@Sophies09Mommy I did when I was younger and stupider. I emailed them and they sent me a wall of text that basically said because HSUS has a page protesting roundups they aren't going to do shit (worded more gracefully, of course). PETA are a bunch of hypocritical clowns and the last thing we need fighting this fight.

i have been watching the show on tv tonight, i live in Mwc ok and i decided to look at yalls website then saw the letters...and i was like i KNEW that stormy guys behavior wouldnt be tolerated like that as a professional and then i read about the snakes...im horrified, im NOT from oklahoma but have lived here for almost 18 yrs and none of my family has ever seen anything like the behavior weve seen in OK...i dont want to bash OK but its just not like any other place...when i first moved here,

I did Call Gov. Fallins office & I was told after I had been hung up on,& I called back "THEY CANNOT CONTROL WHAT EVERY IDIOT IN THIER STATE DOES TO ANIMALS" My response was "But this is a very popular festival of sorts & these abused animals are being displayed...Why is NO ONE being charged with animal cruelty?" Then she hung up.

@jamiedorton1973 It's great you made that call. Next time anyone gets the same answer just ask back: 'Who is in charge then? You should resign at once if you cannot press charges against people who commit animal cruelty on public display.' It's a monstrous act of negligence on the part of an elected state official's office.

@PurpleViper3 EXACTLY ...i posted about this to people i know and told them, its not JUST "a snake" it is a LIVING , BREATHING , FEELING being...and to imagine if this was *yourself* having this done to..and being held by humans, cant defend yourself, scared to death and cant get away, its mindboggling the feelings those poor snakes must be enduring, its a wonder they dont literally die from fear :( and i am scared to death of snakes but i love animals period

Very,very good.Now that lawmakers no the law is being broken,(as if they didnt already) wouldnt they be criminals if they didnt enforce it. I dont think so,most people making and enforcing laws are above the law.Was there a police force at the roundup?I bet they didnt arrest anyone for inhumane treatment of animals. But if you sold an undersized kingsnake you would be arrested!! Thanks again for the video.

@bigboy3293 They have been informed that this is illegal. They know it is and they are looking the other way. It's our job to contact the people listed in this video and let them know that what is happening is wrong and that we want to see these laws enforced!!! If we all don't get involved in this, nothing will change!

How can any-one be so much lacking in imagination as to think the only way to enjoy oneself is to visit cruelty upon animals?

I thought the clip ought to have made clear to the viewer that, in order for the number of deaths from ‘natural’ causes – from lightning down to snake bite, including dog bite – even to shew up on the graph, it had been necessary to use a logarithmic scale* on the y-axis of the chart at 0:37.

THANK YOU!! Thank you for putting the time and thought into this video that clearly puts in perspective the horrible cruelty that goes on at round ups! No one can deny that fact after watching this. I dont see how it can do anything short of bringing direct legal action against these individuals!!

I don't get it, they freeze the snake? Doesnt that kill it? And what happens if it starts to defrost while sewing the mouth? I'm not particularly fond of snakes in general however after learning about them, I have a respect for them and they dont deserve to be treated cruely as they are part of God's creatures whether we like it or not.

@brooklynaj11221 Yes snakes that have been frozen don't last more than a few hours from what I have seen. Reptile blood is 76% water per my understanding and a reptile will not have the ability to adapt to this radical of a temperature change this quickly. The snakes don't defrost quickly. They put these animals into freezers for 2 hours and the one I handled in Waurika, OK died within two hours. It had also probably been deprived of water for days.

Thanks for sharing this! Here in Florida we do have a rattle snake round up but it has been changed into a big fun educational event where no animals are harmed! I would love to see that happen everywhere! I may be in Florida but I am emailing these folks right now!!!!!!

@SwampGirlAdventures That's all we want to see happen in Oklahoma, the cruelty and slaughter stopping and more humane treatment of the animals. None of us want to hurt these towns economically. I just don't see a whole lot of revenue generated from actual rattlesnake products. The coors tent stays rockin.
