I HATE THAT I MISSED THIS SHOW ON BROADWAY ... I love West Side Story the motion picture and would hope i returns to Broadway again very soon. Loved this clip too. I look forward to the films release on Blu-ray.

i still love the dance from the movie version. the music sounds so much better. i haven't heard any orchestra perform it like it was done in the movie. it just sounds so good. the dancing looks so good, too. tony looks so much cuter in this version, though! ;)

Good lord that dance is SO EPIC!!! I could watch it on repeat for HOURS! I remember they did it in a GAP commercial I nearly DIED! It's so genius!!!

One thing I do not like is the tempo. There are certain parts in the mambo where the tempo is too fast. In the movie, there is a greater effect when the Puerto Ricans present themselves in a line and shout "Mambo" when the tempo is a bit slower. It just sounds like screeching horns and a mess when the tempo is up like it is here. . .just my thoughts. . .anyone else understand what I'm sayin' ? ? ?

@iamsteelee24 I agree. I have not seen the actual production, but maybe they were speeding up the tempo in the interest of time for the Tony Awards. It certainly was a lot faster than in the movie.

@chicagoman58 you may be right, but if you look at the speed of the dancing, you can tell they have rehearsed it in the faster tempo. Yeah, I definitely think the impact of certain parts of the mambo is lessened by the upped tempo. However, I give props to the performers for their speed and accuracy! They did well!!!

The dancers are gorgeous, but everything is so energetic and punchy that certain movements featured in the original film that are so subtle and powerful are virtually gone. Energy should be played with.

i was in west side story and the jets skirts shouldnt be that short...in the 50s it was very dirty to wear such short skirts... thats why they didnt like the shark girls their outfits were to sexual looking

let me just say that they have beautiful voices and the dancers are amazing espesially the american couple idk who they are but she has on a red dress that is short and has a slit in it. they are featured dancers. and well, wow!

@rememberingdw Agreed. I can buy the Sharks costumes, but the men and women on the Jets side were way too modern. This is supposed tot sake place in the late 50s. Velma's dress is very out of place, and Tony should be wearing a blazer at least, because thats what guys in the 50s wore to dances! He looks like he woke up late for class!

Agreed. Actors are humans. Human voices occasionally crack. PLUS, that is part of the magic of live theater. Anything can happen -- and often does. She was terrific in the show. LOVED the whole thing. Thrilling theater.
