  • awesome!

  • Ive never gotten that lucky. Ive had a chickadee hover in my face. Only had pigeons land on my hand. You get about 5 or 6 of those birds perched on your out stretched arm and it gets downright heavy lol

  • We have Downy's at our feeders, they eat the suet. What a wonderful thing it must be to handfeed them! They are so cute

  • @Silkara78 Yes, I just love them. Great little birds.

  • That's amazing

  • I love that! I am going to have to get some of them to feed them! I am excited! A new project! The nuthatches and chickadees will eat from my hands, though.

  • @NancyToday That is great...the downy's will be eating out of your hand's in no time!

  • If my sister even thought about holding the worms, she would freak out. O_o

  • @Hx470 You forget all about the worms once the little bird lands on your hand :)

  • downys are sooo cute

  • Such a beautiful bird,I hope one day to have a bird feed out of my hand(I have had downys in my yard before),the trust they give is just wonderful

  • It is so beautiful! The little guy has so much confidence in you.

  • OH! It's bugs you're feeding him! Can you get those at a store?

  • @nddlj HI There! Yes, you can buy mealworms which they also like to eat alive. Most pet stores sell them.

    Good luck!

  • This is wonderful, I have been hand feeding wild birds for 4 yrs. now. The Downys will not land on my hand though, the Goldfinch, Pine Siskin, White-Breasted and Red-Breasted Nuthatches, Chickadees, and Tufted-Titmouse all do.

  • @lynnesciortino Hi Lynn, thanks, nice to hear from another handfeeder. Isn't it wonderful to experience such trust. I just watched your great clips too. If you want to see more of mine you can go to my youtube channel at kellydodge. The artistsforconservation site will soon have a backyard blog featuring my birds etc. It will start in a couple weeks you might enjoy it. Kelly

  • @kellydodge Thanks Kelly, I will check out your channel

  • @GilaTomster Thanks for your comment. Yes, the Downy Woodpeckers are very calm and friendly. They love peanuts too...good luck with hand-feeding one..it is a sweet privilege.
