  • everytime when i listen this i start thinking my bunny who is died in few months ago ;(

  • Jessontherun...Northerners are thick inbred scum. Most of you cant string a sentence together and you really do look like your lost. I mean most of you are slack jawed and my god... After working with Northerners I have to say that most of you think your something your not. The south laughs at your whippet and flatcap mentality. Now fuck off back down a mine and lets enjoy a wonderful song.

  • @BrilliantNutter

Howay man, divn't be like that!

  • i always cry on this song, in my childhood i saw this ilm 15 years ago... good film, good song...

  • @ willowbreezeMiyuki: Oh yes, I still own mine, too ;-))

  • Read The Book, if you think the movie was moving!

It's a *very* important political work, as well as about death and life...

    Genius... oh, thank you, "unclewes"!

    <3!

  • I looked to it when I was a kid and it made me cry and it still makes me cry . it's so sad to see bunnies die and fight :(

  • gibts den Film auf auch in Deutsch auf DVD?

  • @3Magie

Ist schwierig, die komische neuauflage gibt es noch auf dvd aber ich hab hauptsächlich nur die VHS version gefunden und naja das wird teuer^^

  • joseph mcManners's bright eyes's better than thz 1

  • Just wonderful and breathtaking, masterpiece of a book and movie and song. Just love it. thanks a lot for it.

  • does anyone know if theres an updated version of this movie? Like a remastered version I mean, the youtube clips are really fuzzy (understandable for being made in the 70s) and Its hard to make out some objects and I want to watch the full movie.

  • @SpaceBandit666 right here: neBftfMt5xA

  • Thats the spirit., Death is Nothing to be afraid of.. Its all around us..

  • @PenetreraEskimo It is survival of the fittest, dude.

  • Paintbrush is the tool, paper is the canvas, life and death is the story.

  • this is a beautiful example of hope

  • i love this movie

  • The one thing I liked about this movie is that it wasn't your typical, 'sugar-coated', talking bunnies who lived happily ever after. It dealt with a more realistic, mortal tale of a group of rabbits looking for a new place to live. Ok, they did get there and there was a, 'happy ever after', so to speak, but even then the main character died and left his legacy. The kind of story kids ought to watch as it's more true to life and handles death sensitively but sensibly.

  • this is mystifying

  • It also deal swith uncontrolled development and destruction of nature and life by forces of greed and ignorance

  • Watching this makes me cry immediatly, thought I'm allready 25.

I real love the movie - I did, when I was a child and much more do I now as I get the whole meaning of it. "Watership Down" and "the animals of farthing wood" probaply were the most meaningfull films I used to watch during my childhood.

  • @Shibawalker i still own my beaten up vhs copy of "the animals of farthing woods" =) .

  • No! this movie is about life. And that death doesn't make sense in it.

  • @cocoverdura I think it's more about how death is simply a part of life. It's about how soceity works and learning to live with it.

  • I didn't even understodd the whole movie back then when I was watching it (around 5 or 6 years old), but it really did disturb me.

this is a movie for grown people belive me, disney is maybe better for children (i don't take anything way here from disney, because I'm 20 and i still watch disney movies with nephews and enjoy it).

  • @AgentK38 it varies greatly upon the individual I'd say. I loved this movie when I was 5-6 years old, completely understood what it was about and it didn't disturb me at all.

  • i love this movie an this song makes me cry

  • *Hits himself* See, I am in a lot of pain, that is why I am crying...

  • i watched the tv serie every day when i was little (like 10 orso)

i really loved it but i thought that bad rabit was a little bit creapy...

  • black rabbit: all the world will be your enemy, prince of a thousand enemies. and when they catch you, they will kill you.but first they must catch you; digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. be cunning and full of tricks, and your people will never be destroyed.

  • what happens in this film that is sad and makes people cry??

  • @geartop988

maybe hearing "bright eyes" over and over again works like a subliminal message...

possible experimental evidence: try showing this vid to someone who never saw it before; disable the audio; see if he/her cries. Then, show this vid to another person who never saw it; put the volume on; see if he/her cries.

  • @geartop988 You have to watch the movie :3.

  • This is possibly one of the most haunting animated sequences in a film. It is captured so

sensitively by Mike Batts composition (those strings just pierce straight through all emotion) and Art garfunkels silky tenor vocals.

What is particularly sad and adds some resonance is that the chap who uploaded this died a couple of years ago (his daughter posted a comment then). This song meant a lot to him and his wife while she was alive - at least he is with her now.

  • so damn hauntingly beautiful

  • This and the final scene with Hazel's death always make me cry.

Really one of the best animated films. It's too bad the US doesn't make animation like this, only Europe and Japan do.

  • @Vebinz japan is nowhere near this they have terrible animation they use key frames so cheaply and have a million still images, the japanese have the worst animation ever

  • @cartoonkingforeever

You can't possibly be refering to full-length animated movies form Japan, such as those from Myazaki or Otomo.

But anyway, I was refering to themes and subject matter more than anything.

The US doesn't do serious adult animation like this, only the Japanese and Europeans (and occasionally Canadians).

  • @Vebinz i guess your right but Americans can still make amazing animated movies

  • @cartoonkingforeever

Look at movies like "Ninja Scroll" & tell me it's crappy done....

  • @YourMNKY to many ninja stuff going on for my liking with anime, but this is amazing with such brilliant music

  • When I was a child I never "got" this film, allow me to elaborate, when my pet rabbit died I watched this film to CHEER ME UP!

  • Why did I follow the link on the tropes!!!??

*already getting misty eyed* Son of a WHORE....!!!

This is not fair...no...make it stop.

    Why can't I stop it..?

    Ohh...ohh...the tears...

    Oh...no...

    No...

    *sobbing like a small child*

  • Great song!

  • I have always cry when I hear the song. That is always so sad.

  • oh wow what can i say.

  • fantastic

  • the vibe i got from the film as a child was of survival. the musical score, well is just top notch and is beautfully arranged

  • I am 40 this year and this is probably still one of my favourite films to date with tarka the otter ..the very least this film should give you is a lump in your throat. I will never tire of watching this :(

  • Hi. I love this song !.

I am 13 yrs old from UK. I have uploaded a clip of me SINGING BRIGHT EYES.

** I would love some feedback on my clip **

and SUBSCRIBE if you like it as I have lots more coming soon.

"Tears in Heaven" also uploaded recently. Thanks ;-)

  • nice

  • This song makes me know how Fiver feels if he lost his brother, Hazel. They sometimes say that a rabbit can die of lonlieness. This is actually a pretty song.

  • Good memories of this(L)

  • Yay. :)

    I love this book.

    The movie is good too.

  • i have 2 rabbits

    1 is my sisters

    if my rabbit died

    i'd never forgive myself

i'd be a wreck in school and never eat, sleep etc.

  • A very powerfull and dramatic cartoon.

  • Probably the only film, cartoon that has ever caused a tear to flow ever and I was only little when it happened. Such a great story and this song works perfectly within it.

  • i've never cried during or after a film. But the closest I've ever come is while watching WD. Great Film!

  • Try Fluke... :'(

  • omg im crying

  • very sad song, 20 years old and still get tears, i remember this when i was little, brillaint film, brillaint song x

  • its sad because you know that they earned their rest

  • I never got that, I just always knew something was wrong when the spirit starts hopping around etc

  • This movie (especially this part) make this "Fist of the North Star" fan shed manly tears. That's how awesome this movie is and always have a spot in the "Hall of Fame"

  • this movie needs to be remade in live action , but use the technology f james camerons avatar. Its truly one of the most amazing stories of our time. And only a few know of it...richard adams made my childhood grow and my maturity grow at a young age. good stuff.

  • This movie is so amazing. It makes you scared of your own emotions, but still you want to watch it, because it's made so well. A worthy movie on an amazing book.

  • well stated

  • this is so much more sadder than bambi!

  • well bambi is from disney and u dont see the mother get shot so, how does anyone know she's even dead?!? and mother deer (does) leave their fawns when they're a year old. it was winter when she dissapered so yea, lol

  • In the novel Bambi's mother was never seen again after the hunters, even after Bambi asked all the animals. It meant that they either killed or the hunters took her away.

  • yea i no, i was just having a joke thats all.

  • ah... very hard to tell if it's a joke when reading text ^^"

  • lol

  • grabbing the tissues.. everytime.

  • I am a grown, 37-year-old, heterosexual, proud Southern man, and this still, to this damn day, makes me bawl my eyes out.

  • @thespiswolf I am 35 and the Same...

  • @thespiswolf It only gets worse by aging :-p

  • @thespiswolf gay lord...haha

  • @thespiswolf southerners arent really known for having thick skin and being masculine... wussy beta males... no wonder your wives and girlfriends are so easy

  • @thespiswolf same here , my son is 5 and he loves the movie and always asks "why r u crying dady"

  • @thespiswolf so damn true :)

  • You should watch Grave of the Fireflies. As much as I like Watership Down, that film makes this seem upbeat in comparison!

  • I was among the many 80s children scarred for life by this film!! lol! It still reduces me to tears now

  • i love this film, it never fails to make me cry :(

  • Dont get me wrong, I still think Watership Down was one of the best movies ever made. =)

  • Its wonderful to read so many comments which echo my sentiments - its so sad and tear inducing. 41 and still cry over it.

  • its alot different watchin this as a 15 year old than when i last watched it at 5. great film. a must watch for young kids

  • I fucking love this movie..

  • this song always reminds me of my father, i always watched this movie at his house, and i can still hear him sing this song. R.I.P dad!

  • my dad and i used to watch this movie .... he died after i turned 6 .. :(

  • I drive past Watership Down at least once a week when I am working. I can't help looking and thinking about this place- and the famous tale of life and death with which I grew up. I am a hairy-arsed bloke aged 41, however I still get goose-bumps when I pass this place.

    Cliff

  • it makes me cry :0

  • This song & scene moved me to tears as a kid.

Parts of the film also scared me to death when I was little but I think it's good to watch cos it taught me to appreciate that people aren't the only ones trying to make a life for themselves. Even tho the animal storyline is quite humanised it gives at least an idea of things through their eyes.

  • This movie STILL makes me cry...

The whole movie is about death, explained in the most beautiful way DX

  • Yeah I agree, it is about death and survival. A brilliant movie, quite bloody as well, which should be appreciated as it would not be allowed In modern Kids movied. This is REAL, and Epic. A must see film.

  • this movie is so depressing in the start beacuse Hazel & Company goes to find a new home and everytime they are being almost killed at every place and in the end Hazel dies of old age but later in the movie it´s so bright they find a new home and i think that this film is very beutiful and i have seen it like 1 000 000 times but i still cry when i see it.

  • this part in the book was sad, but when watching it with music it really puts more feeling into it, got to watch it again, its not ground breaking animation but still amazing to watch

  • Oh, i love this song <3 I can listend to it 1000000 times on a day but i should still love it <'33

  • This bit of the film gave me such a lump in my throat when i was little and it still does! :*(

  • That movie depresses me.

  • jenniferjanez, then you must already have underlying depression before watching it.

  • A song that will make grown men of a certain age weep!

Fantastic bit of animation, very dark in places.

  • if you wonder what i mean with took

    then i mean

    put to sleep

    <(

    (starts to cry)

this song is the one i'd like to have for my funeral

  • Song is a drug, once bitten forever smitten.

  • did this win any awards?

  • WOW loving the Oboe @ 13 to 38 seconds

  • omg i cant watch dis withot crying nd its reminds me of me catt :'(

  • Whenever I hear anyone say that animation is childish and low in artistic merit, I just point them to this movie.

  • mmmm

  • I can't , listen to this song without crying, watching the clips breaks my heart, but still, love it so much. Thanks for posting. LOL.

  • watch to the end you will see that hazel rah saves them and dies peacefully of old age :)

  • do you know the simpsons - episode where Homer walks out of the theatre after watching "The Empire Strikes Back" and saying in front of a bunch of people who are going to see the movie "Well, who had thougt that Vader is Luke Skywalker´s father?" Maybe there are some people out there who haven´t seen Watership Down yet...

  • I don't really understand, but sure ^^' (at least I know that episode)

  • it was a reply to someone who gave away the ending of the movie. I hate that.^^

  • Yes. I had this given to me from spirit a couple of months ago. Did not understand. Now I do. Thanks to the great spirit. & love 2 you Kenn forever.Until we meet....X Xo

  • this movie makes me cry :(

  • I am determined to get a tattoo of the Black rabbit of Inle if it's the last thing I do.

  • I'm 23 and still get spooked watching this coz of the damage it did when i was young. The blood in the field scene at the beginning of the film gave me nightmares for years and even now i still have to put the light on sometimes coz of that one scene

  • i cried watching this, and this film scares me always has but this scene always gets to me

  • sung by Art Garfunkel (of Simon & Garfunkel), IMO the best of his solo works!

  • my rabbit died because of a disease

T . T it would squeak very loudly and stuff and it died in my arms and ive promised myself never to get a rabbit again, i can go throught that amount of heartache again, im crying while typing this x'3

ive not seen all of watership down, i only got to see like half of it but the movie but it scares me because of rabbits getting killed and things. but besides that its pretty good ;3

  • This song -always- makes me cry...

  • damn it's hard not to cry :S

    R.I.P. Roger (my old rabbit)

  • this film scared the shit out of my sister!

  • I watched it about 10 years ago it didnt scare me then but it does now!

  • love this song, makes me cry everytime i hear it.x

  • They should bring traditional animation back by using this scene saying "I can't believe it's not computer animated! Beautiful song. I love it.

  • "Bring it back"? What'd'ya mean? All of Miyazaki's movies are drawn by hand!!!

  • i remember watching this film as a kid. i still watch it now. excellent music to go with a excellent film.

  • Lovely song I read the book, it was phenomenal.

  • me too :P

  • Watership down is one of my favorite movies, I've watched it millions of times but Bright Eyes is just...... Sorry .... wait a sec. WAAAAAAAAAAAA! ; ( I have 2 bunnies!!!

  • I have never liked rabbits very much, but Watership Down is my all-time favorite book and I love the characters with a passion that I have never known with any other book!

  • this always makes me cry :(

  • i saw this film once when i was very young, and it scared the hell outta' me! i guess its the blood and stuff that i didn't like, but i still love this song!

  • I have a californian rabbit,(they are white with black ears, nose, feet, tail and red eyes),and she has her own character just like the rabbits in the book.

  • I DUNNO HOW PEOPLE WHO HAVEN'T SEEN THIS MOVIE LIVE! It's so good...but sad.

  • a lovely book and a beautiful song.. i love hazel so much!

  • ah,this version,(from the movie),is different.There are no drums and bass.

  • This song is so amazing and sad! When I was 12 I played this song to my friend, and she asked me why I listened to this stupid gay stuff..lol, lucky for me I'm not her friend anymore. It hurt me so much back then though. Did she have no feelings ;_;?

  • This song always reminds me of my gorgeous "BUDDY;" a long haired all black German Shepherd who died 1 1/2 years ago. "How can a light that burns so bright, suddenly fade?" I miss you Bud, you were my best friend ever! This song is a tribute to those whose "bright light has faded." 10 + stars!

  • sorry to hear that :(

  • I love this film, and love this clip. But I can never watch it without being reduced to tears. I'm not just talking eyes welling up either, I'm talking about full-blown 'your-mother-has-just-died' tears. I can't understand it! I can't even listen to the song (any version) without crying.

    It's so odd!

  • StreetSis, no shame in crying! This makes my tearful everytime I watch or listen to it. I'm I'm a guy...!

  • This is why this movie is a classic. 5 stars

  • I saw this film yesterday on film 4. Went to my friends house because I was feeling low and needed to get out of the house. When I got to my friends, he was watching this. I sat down, just as this scene came on. It hooked me straight away and it almost reduced me to tears infront of my friend. I was so embarrassed. :P

  • Absolutely amazing vid. I love Watership Down and that song. 5 stars and a fav.

  • Question: Does anyone know if this particular version of Bright Eyes was ever made commercially available...and if so, can it still be found? I have a couple of versions of Bright Eyes, but this version is the one I've always searched for. The orchestral backing softens the song into a dew of gentle harmonic breaths, swaying, wandering, longing...it is so sweetly sorrowful, it breaks my heart even writing about it *:)*

  • Yeh its composed and sung by Mike Batt and is available on itunes

  • I know Mike Batt wrote it, but it was originally performed by Art Garfunkel. Batt's own version is OK, but it is not as moving as Garfunkel's, nor is it the version used in the film (which is the version I so dearly want to find).

  • I don't know but this is my fav version too. I love the strings and the music in this version.

  • Garethac81 - Look for Martin Rosen's production of Richard Adam's Watership Down. That was released as an album although hard to get a copy of. I bought one some time ago (CD) but have no idea where it is.

  • Thanks for the tip, MRC0480 - it's nice to know that the soundtrack album IS out there, somewhere! Do you remember if this exact version of Bright Eyes is on that album? I've been disappointed many times by soundtracks containing different versions of songs featured in my favourite films. I paid £30 on ebay for a copy of the Planes, Trains & Automobiles OST a while back, only to find that the beautiful instrumental themes in the film are changed to include vocals on the album *:(*
