I really wish they would have taken a larger MMO style path with Hellgate: London.

Hellgate feel with the scale of a game like EQ2 would have been more fun. 1000+ player worlds beat the piss out of ~6 player instanced zones

She's not an Evoker actually... she wasn't even alive back then. ( The trailer is 20 years before the events of the game).

She's "the Herald" who will lead humanity to the final battle against the forces of hell.

story line wise from what i could gather most of the templar the knights who charged the demons decided to go fight and die in order to buy time for the rest of the templar to hopefully find a way to beat the demons. I know this comment is 9 months old but hopefully youve found an answer or hopefulyl this will suffice. Either way a good 3/4ths of the templar died lleaving few behind and most of london is destroyed by the end of the first book. In the second 4 years go by and still no answer yet.

Well, its hell on earth literally. The legions of hell have stormed earth, destroying everything, you are given the task to restore peace. Templar knights are mentioned in this game but there is very little religion brought up, the only thing tying it to any christian faith, as I see it, is that hell exists

All the templars that followed Patrick Sumerisle 20 years before this battle died. This is the cutscene just before you enter the Hellgate and kill Sydonai and Murmur turns out as one of the Demonlords.
