  • Idiots...hamas is a terrorist organization. They are lucky we don't take out every one of their leaders....do you people really think we can't? You think we don't have the ability? If you think so....your ignorant. As many as Hamas must die. You call for my death...I will hand you yours.

  • Great Post.!

  • Great video. See also Finkelstein's debate with Indyk where Indyk was caught lying about who broke the truce.

  • Israel also treats its Christians as second class citizens, wake up America!

  • There was no cease fire. Hamas never stopped firing bullets or rockets.

You only hear of fighting when Israel responds to attacks.

The only way there will be any peace in that region is for Israel to totally drive Muslims out of their land.

It's obvious that the Muslims in that region will never allow peace.

  • im just going to say that the 2nd newspaper in the 1st minute says ''exchange of fire'' that means it is 2 way and does not say who fired first only that 6 palistinians were killed.

  • just to let YOU know- "Palestinian militants" are the Hamas terrorists. When is OK to see them acting against you and not kill them? Also- destroying the tunnels prevents more of the missles (that have been launched at Israel) to illegaly be brought to the Hamas- and obviously Israel didn't do enough to kill more of the terrorists, since now it's all chaos.

Thumbs up for trying to read more news- but it is always one sided, defending the side that has more people dead. disregarding facts.

  • The truth must reveal that Israel is a state

    of terrorizm,built on Palestnian land,continue

to kill Palestinan for the last 60 years.

  • Truce means cessation of all acts of violence upto and including the cessation of arms smuggling and plotting more ways of causing mass casualty. Israeli spies know what the HAMAS is upto and are right in taking appropriate measures to stop these killers. Besides, what makes an armed group that brutally kills opponents an elected party?Stop this sappy drivel about children being killed and civilians being caught in cross-fire and tell your terrorist friends to not bite more than they can chew.

  • re-supplying yourself with arms is not a violation of the truce. Israel gets constant shipments of weapons from the US, which they use for their daily terrorism.

  • right. Maybe not back then. But under the new proposed cease-fire agreement it is goign to be. Cheers :) HAMAS is so desperate, they may even agree to move to Tunis as PLO did back then in '82.

    Bon Voyage :)

  • hamas was elected in an democratic election. they are a real political party, but they are also terrorists. and you say "Besides, what makes an armed group that brutally kills opponents an elected party?" the american government kills a lot of people, so does the brittish and all other nation involved in the iraq war. almost everynation on the world runned by a political party kills people.

although i do not in any way defend hamas. israel and hamas = sam shit different names.

  • if that isn't humanitarian I don't know what is.

  • you don't know what you're talking about. first hamas send close to forty rockets a day into Isreal. second, you can steal something that belongs to you. youCAN however GIVE land of your own to the country that has been bombarding you with said rockets. and when Israel fianally starts firing back, Hamas is up in arms calling Israel war criminals. and if you say that Israel is non humanitarian, chew on this. Israel CALLED THE HOUSES THAT THEY WERE ABOUT TO BOMB AND TOLD THE OCCUPANTS TO EVACUATE.

  • what about the 3000 rokets fired in the last year jackass israel nneds to kick your asses

  • Israel is the country brutally occupying Palestine, stealing land and launching much deadlier rockets. Hamas launches at most one crude rocket in retaliation for every 10 or 20 shells Israel launches onto Palestine. Hamas rockets have killed very few people, unlike Israeli ones. If the US or Israel experienced a small fraction of what they regularly do to others, they would feel justified in not only launching a few crude rockets -- but in nuking countries. That reveals extreme hypocrisy

  • "Israel is the country brutally occupying Palestine"- with this said, responding to any other claims made by you is superfluous.

you yebber occupation, justify retaliation and whinge at a well deserved response.

Fact is arabs never bothered build a state, beacuse they were/are busy wanting more.

The land was partitioned into an arab state and a minor jewish state (jews comprised apx. 1/3 of the population). In a repeated attempts to gain control over all land, arabs have lost probable cause.

  • @jrk81 the truth hurts zionist ;D

    DOWN WITH ISRAEL

  • respects to Mr1001 nights for a much needed video, lets hope many more eyes are opened to the deceit and lies coming from the zionist elements supported by the world media.

  • nope, 120 days had passed before Israel began provoking them. And those supersonic jets and abrams tanks that my taxes pay for are aimed at killing civilians also.

  • Yes, they were happy militants. Minding their own business, on their way to see the musical Mamma Mia, when big bad Israel decided to Destroy them all.

... you leave out the convenient parts of what the militants were up to.

  • "And when it is said to them, Do not make mischief in the land, they say:

    We are but peace-makers". TMQ

    ISRAEL DOES NOT DESIRE PEACE.

  • ewah786 by the way nice piece of shit car. Israel should have done you a favor and bombed that too!!!!

  • Killed 6 militants is breaking the truce? I'm sorry, I didn't know militant was a synonym for defenseless civilian. Of course militants have no capacity to defend themselves. Oh and those tunnels? I'm sure they weren't constructed to bring in illegal arms or take out Israeli soldiers.

  • Ah, so it's alright to kill another country's citizen, just as long as they have a weapon and a fair shot at defending themselves right?

Therefore, the US was being an asshole to Japan for retaliated after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, right?

Maybe the 6 militants should have shot up at the ceiling with their weapons upon hearing a bomb drop on their heads from the skies - they were after all armed and better protected than a defenseless civilian.

  • Its supposed to be "militants". The soldiers of Israel are soldiers but the soldiers of Gaza are referred to as militants. Dont let the western media fuck your brain again. Its your brain, you fuck it.

  • If it is in an independent newspaper it must be true. I hope Israel wipes all Hamas off the map!!!!!!!!! Maybe you

  • You know you gonna die soon and will have to answer to why you supported killing off innocent people i dont care on which side. And then you will burn in hell. Thats reality

  • Dateline: July 6th 2008

JERUSALEM — Israel has opened its border crossings with the Gaza Strip after closing them once again because of Palestinian rocket fire

Israel and Gaza militants reached a truce agreement on June 19. Under the deal, Israel agreed to reopen the crossings to allow much-needed goods into Gaza

But since then, militants have repeatedly launched rockets into Israel and Israel has shut the crossings in response.

    -

From The Huffington Post. Not a exactly a right wing blog

  • As antiwar[dot]com has pointed out, the Huffington Post is "Israeli occupied territory". In fact, the Liberals are the most pro-Israel of all. Most members of aipac and adl are liberals. Notice that the paragraph you quote contains no dates or facts, just some general and typical statements from the idf. That Israel broke the cease-fire by killing six Palestinians is uncontroversial. That you're not convinced even after the kind of evidence I've shown shows a deep level of indoctrination.

  • There are two dates listed!

Do a google search for "Israel has opened its border crossings with the Gaza Strip after closing"

In quotes, just like that. You will see that this is originally an Associated Press story. I can't quote the whole story or put the links here because of limitations of this forum.

  • FUCK ISRAEL! TERRORISTS! FUCK OFF FROM PALESTINA!

I threw some eggs on israeli ambasade in Warsaw!

    FUCK ISREL!

  • GOOOO ISRAEL~~~!!!!!!!

  • Watch the video "CNN Confirms Israel Broke Ceasefire First". This guy is telling the truth.

  • goooooooo ISRAEL!!!!!!!

AT LEAST WE DON'T RAVAGE EVERYTHING!!!!

  • As long as a situation as complicated as this is greeted with BS cheerleading nothing will be acomplished, either make a reasoned statement or go home, we dont have time for garbage like this.

""Once again, Israel's violent responses, even if there is justification for them, exceed all proportion and cross every red line of humaneness, morality, international law and wisdom. ... What began in Gaza is a war crime and the foolishness of a country."

    Israeli Journalist Gideon Levy

  • I did not know this.

Kudos for posting this, very informative.

  • OMG

    what are you nuts???

we have been bombed from the Hamas for 9 years!!! all we do now is to destroy their way to shoot us!

we avoid of hearting innocent people! the Hamas killing the poor children and then blames us!!

wow i thought people are smarter than that. i'm shoked of what i see here~!

  • exactly, barak, you needa getta clue son. Those rockets from hamas killed what 6-10 in the last year halfyear, in the last week you terrorist government with WEAPONS THAT I PAY FOR (not too happy about this, but its gonna change soon) has killed 600. 1 jew = 100 palestinians? Is this the new racial mathematics barak? you dipshit dummy, get outta here.

  • im from the USA and i must say, Hamas has been attacking Israel for YEARS, finally Israel is showing them that they better not mess with you guys. Good Job :)

  • israel attacked lebanon his country and they got owned

  • Omg you stupid idiots!

U only can talk from ur home...u just dont know nothing that stupid hamas are shooting for 9 years in the row the Kasames to Israel.!

and that what they doing its shit!...and about the kids , the hamas is hit them and then show to camera like we are done that...

  • Actually we do, because that is all the media talk about. But we also know about the brutal and murderous forty-year Israeli occupation and theft of land, and about the many more -- and much deadlier -- Rockets Israel has been shooting. As an Israeli, you have to expect that most of what you hear in the Israeli media and educational institutions is propaganda intended to legitimize state actions. Nationalism is a doctrine of slaves -- of slaves who murder for their masters. Free yourself from it

  • kill all the jews long live hamas

  • Hashem will destory the Evil

  • Thank you for generating this compilation. I had found a source in regards to this; however the feedback that I received criticized the source (NY Times) as being biased. Having multiple sources is very helpful.

While these items were reported, I do not recall a large amoung of media attention focusing on this using "air time." Also, I do not hear references to these cease-fire breaches in the current discussion about violence in the region.

    Thoughts?

  • Israel need to be stopped before they start WWIII

  • hamas wear as a palestin civil... this´s all....

coward... Israel Army wear uniforms and you can identify him

  • well if go over there then defend your home boys. we really dont care. Give them hell isreal!

  • "I know that it is a hopeless undertaking to debate about fundamental value judgments. For instance, if someone approves, as a goal, the extirpation of the human race from the earth, one cannot refute such a viewpoint on rational grounds." - Einstein

There is no debate with one who has no respect for the fundamental human rights of ALL people.

  • Hamas broken the peace....Hamas is BIG GUILTY for WAR

  • Dude, wow, you've presented such a convincing argument, full of facts and figures and everything...

  • It might just be me, but I think the media is slightly biased towards supporting Israel...

  • Oh nuclearknight, you know that's just more "BAIT AND SWITCH", like when the UN Gen Assembly voted 164-7 in favor of "Peaceful Settlement on the question of Palestine" this past November....with the US, Australia, Israel and 4 Pacific Islands voting against. I thought it was the Arab/Persians who were blocking peace, but Iran, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Etc is in the 164!!!! How can this be? Just more "Bait and Switch" Skullduggery....conveniently ignored by those who want to ignore it.

  • do you even know what you wrote?

  • it was sarcasm boss, haha

  • you are talking about the 4th of January.

but the cease fire stopped 6 days before!!!

during the week after the cease fire stopped, and while Israel and Egypt tried to negotiate ANOTHER cease fire, the Hamas launched more than 10 rockets per day at Israel!!

During this week, by the way, Israel have sent 10 convoys of humanitarian aid trucks into gaza.

so don't try to sound smart when you don't know the facts. lets see how you talk when you get 8 years of rockets on your house!

    ISRAEL WILL WIN!!

  • No he's talking about the 4th of January......

  • How could he be talking about the 4th of Jan when the date added for the video is Jan 2nd? Little facts such as this seem to be an annoyance for hardliners like you....christ....

  • Keep the videos coming mr1001nights. Israel obviously has a propaganda presence on YouTube. They should be countered with as much truth as possible.Israel must be shamed everywhere for its actions.

I was always bothered by all the actual nazis on YouTube, but they aren't the only genocide cheerleaders on this site.

  • Israel kills Palestinian fishermen trying to feed their families, calls them "militants," and absolves itself, while at the same time blaming civilians for their own deaths. The Israelis always find away--to blame the blood on their hands on their victims.

  • dude you are reading things that say that YOU ARE WRONG, then you are saying its evidence PROVING you are right???? all the headlines say MILITANTS... GUNMEN lol WERE KILLED:)) dude get a clue

  • Then let us reverse the situation. Let's say that Hamas militants had crossed the border into Israel and captured a couple IDF soldiers, or attacked a military target. Surely that would be considered a breach of the cease-fire, no?

  • Israel targeted the Palestinian police headquarters. Police are deemed to be civilians in international law.

  • Also, it is known this attack was planned 6 months ago, and its action one month ago.

All Israel attacks broking the truce was to make the militias respond, so that they have an excuse to show to the public. New story isn't it?

  • You are trying your best to prop these corrupt leaders up huh? No talk of the true reasons for their suffering. Thank god for the internet. I'm sure alot of young palestinians are starting to "follow the money".

  • Also, in the 6 of Dic. again four militants were killed, and since then constant operations again, with the excuse that Hamas would be launching rockets because it was almost the oficial end of the signed deal. Palestinian Militias responded to this attacks with more rockets, while Hamas still wanted to be calm until the 19th, when finally the Truce ended, and in the 23 od Dic. Hamas was asking to remake the Truce and a new Cease-Fire.

  • Excellent work, brother!

  • Faved and featured. It is shocking how quickly and easily history is re-writen by the Western imperialist ideological propaganda network, er.. I mean the 'free press'.

  • Good job brother.

  • I can't think of a more depressing moment in 2008. Somebody needs to extinguish the Israeli government.

Everyone concerned with the Palestinian crisis should read/watch Norman Finkelstein.

  • There needs to be another cease-fire, but that in itself is not enough. A cease-fire is meaningless if Israel can blockade Gaza (after all, Israel has control of Gaza's borders, airspace, and access to sea) and deny humanitarian aid into what's effectively a mass prison. There needs to be a settlement which respects the rights of the Palestinians, including their right not to be collectively punished (which is against the Geneva conventions).

  • What about the crossing into Egypt?

  • God forbid Israel not have complete and utter control over all of Gaza!

  • Just responding to the "control of all the borders" statement. Never suggested they should. And furthermore, do not believe they should.

  • You misquoted me, I didn't say "control of all the borders."

  • OK bud. I was trying to be gracious. That was exactly what you were implying. Whom in the world gives the people of GAZA more than Israel and the US. The UN and it's agencies is the obvious. Whom are the major contributors to those funds? They should not stand with terroristic entities. There would be no cause for "collective punishment" as you call it. Daily if not weekly aid and medical supplies, electric and fuel oil. Infrastructure wise, would it not be easier to import from Egypt?

  • The Egyptians seem to be in the same thought as the world. HAMAS is the cause of the conditions in GAZA and for the welfare and health of it's residents. They have "promised" in the future to supply a majority of the electricity to GAZA once the infrastructure is built. Where does HAMAS spend it's aid money instead? Haniyeh's villas

  • I would like to see some statistics about these villas of Haniyeh which you keep mentioning. Moreover, does an organization's corruption justify a foreign power invading, occupying, and collectively punishing the effected population? Hardly!

  • Show me other corrupt goverments getting away with rocketing civillians.

  • That is a separate justification altogether. If one wants to justify gravely breaking international law on the grounds that civilians are being mortared, that's at least comprehensible (to say nothing of its legitimacy). But to justify it on the grounds that Hamas is corrupt (which you still have yet to demonstrate with any sort of statistics) is simple unintelligible and illogical.

  • The US presence in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iraq come to mind....

  • Oh and by the way, you don't need to spell GAZA and HAMAS with all caps—they are just as legible in lower case. Perhaps one should also speak of ISRAEL and THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

  • I'm glad that I finally got a concession that ISRAEL and THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA should be treated equally! :)

  • I don't know where you are getting these "concessions," other than maybe out of your ass. But if you are accusing me of trying to apply standards consistently, then I am guilty as charged.

  • Vulgarity, the last bastion of a feable mind. Seemingly so far, that was the first.

  • Red herring and irrelevant.

  • Have you read the Arab draft proposal?

  • Or are you waiting to rely on Youtube?

  • I don't know why you think that I dedicate myself completely to arguing with you (sorry, but you're just not worth it). Nonetheless, if you wish to follow another path of argument then I may follow. No I have not, why?

  • No because I won't be brainwashered or ushered to slaughter by your simplistic views unsupported by facts or real events. Don't place yourself in an argument that you choose not. Your responce was to me...mine to mr1001nights. Chain reaction followed. I'll just leave you to the less informed. Night! :)

  • Toodles.

  • Not irrelevant at all. It proves that the IDF broke the ceasefire in recent memory.

  • You read my comment out of context. It was in response to Banjo's comment on my use of vulgarity.

  • Patriotism, the last refuge of the scoundrel......

  • Bait and switch... bud, bait and switch. Brainwash the naive, sling insults avoiding any light to be shed on the true causes of their suffering. And you ask why this situation continues? Because people like you get some sort of satisfaction from their suffering for the sole purpose of blaming Israel and the US. You should be ashamed. Keep doing it as it has been done for 50 years and see if anything changes.

  • US gives unprecedented economic, military, and diplomatic support to Israel and that's why the atrocity continues. Israel turned down in '71 a full peace treaty from Egypt in what Kissinger called "Stalemate." The number of UN resolution flouted by the US and Israel is greater than the rest of the world combined, not to mention US vetoes in the SC.

  • "That was exactly what you were implying." How would you know what I am implying? Why would I imply something that is factually wrong? You are effectively calling me a liar, so I don't take that as "graciousness." And furthermore, the term "collective punishment" is not my own. But your utter contempt for international standards is quite clear from your statements here, since you assume that there is a "cause" for collective punishment, just as there may be a "cause" for torture.

  • What other could have been implied. "As long as Israel can blockade GAZA" seems to be a statement of Israels ability to cut aid supplies turning GAZA into a prison. How exactly does Israel control the border with Egypt? Sorry if I "jumped" to this assumption. The purpose of the quotes was to show my disagreement with your use of the term "collective punishment". As I said, I do not believe it exists in GAZA. Yeilding to demands of HAMAS means destruction of Israel. They will not let that happen.

  • Gaza is under the control of Israel, not Egypt, which has deals with Israel anyways. Furthermore, blocking humanitarian aid is in fact collective punishment. Anybody who denies these facts is blind to reality. Supplies do get in secretly through the Gaza-Egypt border, but I don't know the reason that UN aid organizations don't completely restrict themselves to that border—probably because that's a ridiculous suggestion.

  • Exactly, because that means opening that border. Cancer spreads. Mubarak has delt with it long enough to know. Egypt controls their crossing. And will not deal with HAMAS. Check on that.

  • Ergo Israel's denial of humanitarian aid is, in effect and in fact, collective punishment.

  • Then the same standard should be applied to Egypt. They keep their border closed to terrorist to.

  • Indeed, except that Egypt's control of Gaza is much much less than Israel's.

  • What were those militants doing? Ever thought that the possible that those militants attacked first.

Why were they digging a tunnel to Israel? What was its purpose?

  • it's a reaction to Israel's brutal 40-year occupation and theft of land

  • You need to look at history. They never been a Palestine the land was part of the ottoman empire; Jewish people bought the land from Arabs and were give some by England, and the land Israel was given was the worst part of the land but through hare work and the resources given them they made it bloom then the so called Palestine griped about stolen land.

  • Go to ifamericansknewDOTorg/history/originDOThtml to get the real history

  • So the mass extermination of American Indians is justified because the colonists extracted more resources from the land than the natives? After all, there never was a Native American state, just as there never has been a Palestinian state, and much of the land was legally purchased by European settlers, just as some parts of Palestine were bought by Jews from Ottoman absentee landlords.

  • "were give some by England"

Exactly. Britian acting as a imperial power carved up the Palestine mandate. Is that supposed to legitimise Israel? Er... no. All it means is that an imperial power carved up a territory and gave it to a bunch of ethnic nationalists. Jews did not buy what is modern Israel, it was created by decree in much the same way most post-colonial African nation states were, and look at the trouble that's caused.

  • You cannot steal something from someone that didn't belong to them in the first place. The Jordanian lands, Egyptian lands, the Syrian lands, Turkish lands can still be argued. Unsucessfully, but still discussable.

  • And the pounding of Gaza is a re-action to the re-action. Is this all you got to defend the terrorists? You should provide more. How do you defend a terrorist organization that refuses to accept the existence of a UN memeber nation? Shouldn't they accept the land they're left with and make the best of it? The other alternative is to fight till death and you know how that's panned out so far.Don't you? By current ratio by the time all Palestinians are dead there will be 7 mil less 42K Jews left:(

  • I understand what your suggestion is here.

First of all, that does not deny the fact that Israel broke the cease-fire. Second, if we follow this standard then we should hold Israel by it as well. After all, what is the IDF doing patrolling Gaza's borders and sea-ports literally ALL the time?

  • You patrol the areas that have the most potential threats, and that was what Israel was doing trying to protect itself.

  • Once again you employ a double standard, for you give a justification for what you condemn, but only when Israel does it.

  • Their was never an agreement not to kill terrorist, whereever they may be. Period. Democratically elected HAMAS? And I guess Mugabee is a legit ruler to huh? What a selective memory this guy seems to have.

  • Sucessfully keeping terrorist from blowing themselves up for a few more villas for Haniyeh.

  • If it is terrorism to blow oneself up in a crowded Israeli market is it not also terrorism to drop bombs on crowded Palestinian areas? Why is it that you do not apply to them ilitary occupation the same stringent standards you apply to those under occupation? Tell me this.....please

  • Targeting a building that HAMAS intentionally places in residential areas for the purpose of hiding amongst civillians is a far cry from sending a 14 year old to blow himself up. The loss of a single civilian life in GAZA is awful. Truely awful. I still don't understand why the obvious corruption of their leaders matters nothing to them. While they die and scrap for food, Haniyeh purchases villas for his own. While children in the territories fight and die, their leaders pick out carpet.

  • the truce didn't expire until the 23rd right? So why was Israel targeting anything in the strip at all before this date? By the way, a blockade is an act of war and is viewed in the same light as advancing upon another's territory, the Hamas leadership (i am no supporter) is unacceptable, but far less unacceptable than the garbage in Israel whose wisdom certainly needs to be questioned. Also can you provide evidence to refute 1001nights' video? If you have any I'd be interested in seeing it

  • I don't watch propoganda videos, bud. And , there NEVER was any agreement to not target terrorist- if I do recall the exact wording- "...whereever they may be." So if I block you from turning into a parking lot, that's an act of war? No, you are not a country. See the similarity? Are you one of the whores benifiting from the deaths of these people? Whom will they oppress if ":)" they take Israel? They know nothing except looting aid money. It's amazing no one will even talk of Haniyeh's villas

  • Arafat's millions... As long as propagandist like yourself keep pushing lies and intentional distortions, another generation will be raised for no purpose but to die for more wealth of the corrupt few. If you really cared at all about these people, you would be drawing light to these facts. Children go without medicines because they sell are sold on the black market in Egypt. The money is then used to buy "model" rockets for their on petty enjoyment. Some mention of this somewhere, huh?

  • "not target terrorist .... wherever they may be."

Israel receives $4 BILLION plus annually from the only country in history to be found guilty of international terrorism by the highest body of international law. If Israel is serious about combating terrorism in all forms should it continue to negotiate with and receive aid from the United States, which carried out and was found guily of numerous counts of terrorism against Nicaragua in the 1980's.....?

    I eagerly await your response.

  • What is this highest body of international law that you speak of? You can not just create "facts". The old bait and switch huh? Still not a mention of the corrupt blood thirsty leaders in GAZA. You don't care for these people anymore than HAMAS does. Keeping yourself and them in ignorance is the only way to prop up this charade in GAZA. Should not then, by your logic, the Palestinians reject the aid that the US has sent? By the way, for the last four years WE have given more than any other.

  • Another 96 million today through the United Nations. Where are all these others whom care for them more? Empty words and promises just like your argument against this action against HAMAS. You should be ashamed everytime you look at these images. Stooges like yourself are only enabling their deaths.

  • Can't answer the chasing "terrorist to the ends of the earth" comments (which was another statement made by another official (Amos Gilad, a senior Israeli Defense Ministry official) prior to this "truce").

  • "What is this highest body of international law that you speak of?"

1986 the International Court of Justice (collectively known as the World Court) found the US guilty of international terrorism against Nicaragua. Please, if you feel I have pulled this out of thin air please provide some evidence.

  • Where were any decenting views other than the one sided stance that was taken? We do not participate in kangaroo courts where justifications of aggression were as vauge as "regional identity". These "Councils" were not even effectual until 1998 (Rome Statute of the International Court). Quit getting your info from Youtube. There are HUNDREDS of cases in which every country has found this "courts" decisions to be biased and more politically motivated than legally justified.

  • "BAIT AND SWITCH", "BAIT AND SWITCH"... Still no thought for the suffering just justification for terrorism.

  • A nationalist is one who thinks solely, or mainly, in terms of competitive prestige. He may be a positive or a negative nationalist — that is, he may use his mental energy either in boosting or in denigrating — but at any rate his thoughts always turn on victories, defeats, triumphs and humiliations. He sees history, especially contemporary history, as the endless rise and decline of great power units, and some hated rival is on the downgrade.

  • hahahaha, alright boss

  • Come on, that's it? Go back to trying to indoctrinate the young peaceniks on here. As they get older and witness this tragidy that is and has been unfolding their stance changes quickly. The facts are sticky issues. And still not a mention of the corruption that directly affects those dying. I bet Haniyeh's next villa is in Crete', watch!

  • and every event that happens seems to him a demonstration that his own side is on the upgrade and some hated rival is on the downgrade. But finally, it is important not to confuse nationalism with mere worship of success. The nationalist does not go on the principle of simply ganging up with the strongest side. On the contrary, having picked his side, he persuades himself that it is the strongest, and is able to stick to his belief even when the facts are overwhelmingly against him.

  • I dunno about the decenting views, but dissenting views were put forth by judges from Japan, the UK, and the US.

  • How were these "judges" chosen, bud? For their predetermined political views. Stop arguing and read a little more than just the headlines. Access to these papers are numerous. Including the US stance. Argued and rejected by thousands of scholars, senaters, and the American public. Still doesn't replace the fact of this little bait and switch. Shouldn't, by that logic, the palestinians reject our aid also?

  • President Truman petitioned the US senate to consent to ascension of the US to the ICJ, to say the process is phony/illegal is simply untrue.

"Nationalism is power-hunger tempered by self-deception. Every nationalist is capable of the most flagrant dishonesty, but he is also — since he is conscious of serving something bigger than himself — unshakeably certain of being in the right." George Orwell

  • Whom has injected nationalism into this? As I said, bait and switch. This posting was about Israel breaking a truce. Answer this, do we participate in this "Court"?

"We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm.

    George Orwell (Appropriate huh?)

  • We did participate in the court until it was found to "not be in our best interest" (Rice's words), shortly after the World Court decision in '86 a UN SC resolution was passed calling on all countries to observe international law (no state was mentioned by name) but the US vetoed it. Shortly thereafter the Reagan Administration declared May 1st in the US to be LAW and ORDER day, Orwell wouldn't know whether to laugh or reach for his revolver.....

  • Exactly. Alot of things through history have been started with the best of intentions. Politics, money and corruption take over some. They fail. Footnotes of history. Sometimes the first duty of intelligent men is the restatement of the obvious. Another Orwell

  • I'm sorry. Somehow this has drifted into a display of fanciful writing amongst us both. I truely enjoy the intelligent conversation. I'm still trying to understand the relavance of this on this issue.
