Possibly the creepiest game I've ever played. The ONLY other game I know that had such creepy factor was ES4 Oblivion. Diablo 2 + LOD simply had much less of it. I've played TONS of games over the years, and Diablo still ranks (for me) as the creepiest ever. The dark atmosphere and tantalizing music remains unmatched to this very day. Those prerendered 2D graphics have a LEGENDARY feel to them. Honestly, I just DON'T find 3D graphics creepy at all.
@Francozilla very true my friend, Diablo 1 was terrifying i remember playing this at the age of 7, the butcher scared me soo much i didn't touch the game until i finished Diablo 2 when i was 12, even then at that age it was still creepy, atm the moment im playing d2 on hardcore with a Assassin, act 2 so far, im now 23 but lookin back on these fantastic games i hope they really pull this one off cmon Blizzard :)

@MajorShepard I loved it. But by now the games are pretty dated of course. I personally can't wait for Diablo 3 to come out. I'd say Diablo 1 & 2 are worthy of being considered true classics.
@MajorShepard the graphics are horribly dated by this time, but the fantastic storyline and gameplay compensate the isometric visuals. i'd download the D2 demo, see if you enjoy it.

I was never very good at Diablo (I am now) and always seemd to have to use a trainer for the game to get anywhere past the Butcher, hah. I hated facing the Butcher in the game when I was little...scared to fight him knowing I'd be decimated -- and that room he's in with the bodies? Diablo sure was a bit darker than Diablo II.

what i do have an obssession with is the gaming industry taking cheap shots at making a quick buck these days. I think most mainstream developers are sacrificing quality for the sake of production time/profit these days. And this is just one of those examples.
blizzard has a thing for crows. Crows are involved in both of the open cinematics for diablo and warcraft 3 (as far as I know from playing...maybe more)

That was a really good game. I remember playing it online for hours, back than i actually had to pay by Minute for beeing online (at least here in Austria, but I guess that was pretty much the same also in the US or other parts of Europe).
This is the introduction video for Diablo I, yes. I don't think it's particularly stupid, however, especially not for when the game was released (1996). Diablo I was a much darker, more atmospheric game. They decided to take the series in a more epic fantasy direction, rather than the gothic horror that was Diablo I, although of course there are still elements of gothic horror in Diablo II.
@Kitsune44X diablo 1 was all about duping... diablo 2 was all about scamming, quite sad how everyone didnt actually play the game from start to finish they just went online and got lv 99 and looked at their name :(

@Tomdogg449 yea man, it's cuz the first two were more dynamic. they knew when to make your neck crawl, and when to have a huge monster burst through the wall. and matt uelman (who isn't writing D3's score) is an incredible musical composer, and an absolute genius when it comes to creating a suspenseful atmosphere that makes you dread opening the next door... diablo 3, while it does look very good, just doesn't seem to have that quiet, eerie and morbid atmosphere that the first two had.
atmosphere is what creates the dread. example of bad atmosphere (imo dont crucify me lol) : fear 2 is not scary at all because by the end of the first game we are used to it. this game however, i am still admittedly afraid to play at 17 because of nightmares of it i had at age 6. lol. why i played it at age 6 idk ask my dad :P.
Epicness mostly. It *may* have been Shadowfang, a sword which was going to be a big feature in the original concept for Diablo I, but that part of the storyline was ultimately cut out of the final version of the game. We do meet Izual, the fallen angel who was supposed to wield that sword, in Diablo II, however, on homage to that part of the plot which was removed from the original Diablo game. More than likely just some sword in this intro though.
I have never seen a better Devil anywhere or since Diablo came out. That is still the ultimate Badass Devil ever. The devil in Ledgend is a close second but, can't really compare those two. One's all Evil suave and, the Diablo one is just Brutal badass tear you a new asshole or two maby three. Much kudos to the original artist.

The sword in the ground is azurewrath, the sword Tyrael uses in diablo 2 to destroy the worldstone in the LoD Ending.

That was a really good game. I remember playing it online for hours, back than i actually had to pay by Minute for beeing online (at least here in Austria, but I guess that was pretty much the same also in the US or other parts of Europe).

This is the introduction video for Diablo I, yes. I don't think it's particularly stupid, however, especially not for when the game was released (1996). Diablo I was a much darker, more atmospheric game. They decided to take the series in a more epic fantasy direction, rather than the gothic horror that was Diablo I, although of course there are still elements of gothic horror in Diablo II.

@Tomdogg449 yea man, it's cuz the first two were more dynamic. they knew when to make your neck crawl, and when to have a huge monster burst through the wall. and matt uelman (who isn't writing D3's score) is an incredible musical composer, and an absolute genius when it comes to creating a suspenseful atmosphere that makes you dread opening the next door... diablo 3, while it does look very good, just doesn't seem to have that quiet, eerie and morbid atmosphere that the first two had.

atmosphere is what creates the dread. example of bad atmosphere (imo dont crucify me lol) : fear 2 is not scary at all because by the end of the first game we are used to it. this game however, i am still admittedly afraid to play at 17 because of nightmares of it i had at age 6. lol. why i played it at age 6 idk ask my dad :P.

Epicness mostly. It *may* have been Shadowfang, a sword which was going to be a big feature in the original concept for Diablo I, but that part of the storyline was ultimately cut out of the final version of the game. We do meet Izual, the fallen angel who was supposed to wield that sword, in Diablo II, however, on homage to that part of the plot which was removed from the original Diablo game. More than likely just some sword in this intro though.

I have never seen a better Devil anywhere or since Diablo came out. That is still the ultimate Badass Devil ever. The devil in Ledgend is a close second but, can't really compare those two. One's all Evil suave and, the Diablo one is just Brutal badass tear you a new asshole or two maby three. Much kudos to the original artist.
