  • boring as shit voice

  • the narrator is now 1st on my hit list

  • 34 year old Lezak applied his experience made sure he did everything right on this race. He had to in order to turn in a 46.06 split. No mistakes. Not only did Lezak touch the wall "in phase"- he made sure a)not to breathe in the final red zone 5 meters and b)made sure to keep his head down in the final red zone 5 meters. French anchorman Bernard took two breaths in the final red zone 5 meters, and looked up before his hand hit the touch pad.

  • Only a New Yorker would find a way to weave a Yankee into this feat. Oh, by the way, is it no surprise this person is in newspaper, and not on radio.

  • put a cock up her ass and she will sound better

  • 155 french people watched this video

  • I can't stadn her voice, die bitch, die, die, die die die die die!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • that is one boring bitch, and his hometown is Towson not Baltimore dumbass announcer bitch.

  • the reason it was so close was because the black man almost lost it for us :)

  • @TheBalltarist He lost ground b/c the French guy he went up against had the fastest split up until Lezak. In other words, the black guy went up against the French's best swimmer.

  • ...and boom goes the dynamite.

  • god she's boring.

  • wow! thats cool when you think about it!

  • no, no we didnt hear his "primal cry" sorry

  • haha

  • I still remember Lezak crying in Sydney 2000 with Gary Hall Jr after they said they would "smash Australia like guitars". FAIL.

  • I would say Lezak got the last laugh though...

  • most annoying fucking voice ive ever heard. get a new narrorator.

  • BMORE STAND UP

  • boring voice...nice explanation

  • For smart people who can actually spell and understand it.

  • hahahhah i agree with you ahha what a retard !

  • The kind that normal people think they understand. Real swimmers like u & me know that what Jason did was even more phenominal than it looked.

  • Great narrator.....sike haha

  • Worst narrator ever haha

  • Lezak was amazing

  • The narrator sounded really enthusiastic about US's gold metal....

  • @Budah1214 she's a reporter, she's not supposed to be rooting for anyone

  • No question about it: Lezak saved the race!

I agree the commentator is totally unfit for discussing this race. Boring dead pan delivery. Not a trace of emotion!

  • @lydiadugan reporters aren't supposed to be emotional, silly, they're supposed to be objective

  • Oh my sweet god that was the absolute worst commentary ever. i think a dead elephant could have made this more interesting. I give props to lezak though he was SMOKIN!

  • This news reader is the only person on the planet capable of making this race seem boring...

  • @clocksetup ikr

  • @clocksetup LOL so true

  • this simpler explanation is that lezak is amazing

  • did you really need to make a diagram for this?

  • Don't be jealous micheal phelps won eight gold medals

  • When i was nine i got a 1.05 in long crouse

  • Wow this is...

  • That was absolutely pathetic. You're talking about breaking world records and making history (eight gold medals) and you can't even put the paper down? Honestly... Don't lend your voice next time.

  • Something is rotting over here, oh, it's just your sucking reporting style

  • bla bla bla bla

  • It's hard to believe this is from the New York Times. It looks and sounds like a high school production.

  • WORST REPORTER I HAVE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE!!!!!!!!

....Ny times?! we have got too do better than this!!!!

  • How do you make the video look like that? Lol, can you teach me? I've been trying to figure out how to do that for the longest time.

  • omg i remember watching this..

me and my friends were going crazy!

  • I saw that when the olympics was on tv and i started to shake when i saw it. I never thought lezak could take that up. When i swam 4x50 meter with my swimming team i took in 1 secound and i was really happy to take in that much.

  • "The Americans? We will smash them. That's what we came here to do."

words spoken by a member of the 4x100 m freestyle relay team, pbvioudly prior to this race.

    DON'T TREAD ON THIS.

  • bernard choked

  • it's dificult understand how lezak did this and did'nt win the gold medal in 100 freestyle final, when bernard won.

  • it isn't too difficult to understand, when lezak hit the water he was already behind bernard and was able to ride in his wake. In swimming, if you can position yourself into someone elses wake it not only makes the race easier on you (likw swimming in a current), it makes the race more difficult on the opponent because it feels like he is being pulled back. Lezak rode Bernards wave all the way up to the point where he could unleash the extra effort saved up from riding Bernard to take the win.

  • Nothing in all my years of swimming has being in someones wake ever helped anyone, especially in a sprint. From what understand, if anything, the wake would have been more detrimental to Lezak.

  • Absolute rubbish...it makes a massive difference! That said, 46.0 is incredible, slipstream or not PERIOD.

  • Hey I'm just merely using my experience as a NCAA athlete to make that judgement call.

Although out of curiosity, what by perspective makes this rubbish? (Not attacking you, just curious)

  • my friend got a 46.9 in sctionals and he's a freshmen

  • Your friend is swimming SCY, add 4 seconds to his time..

  • 4.7 seconds

  • this is just... poor reporting

  • cool

  • wow she's totally not a lesbian

  • wow the lady talking sounds so mono tone about it and like she doesnt care

  • Comment removed

  • phelps looks like a horse

  • yes they can swim. If you don't believe me just ask your girlfriend and sister. Last night both were torpedoed, sank, and drafted pretty hard by them; and they loved it. Both can attest to the power of the black man's free stroke.

  • Wow i like the way you say idiot.

  • It is strange that phelps always wins at some seconds near...

  • my 50 free time is 25 and im almost 14

  • That's not bad for yards, amazing if it's in meters (regardless of long-course or short-course meters) though.

  • Comment removed

  • Sorry, it's just that most club teams in the US swim in yards half the year and meters half the year, and all high schools only compete in yards.

  • swimmerforever, you need to chill! It was a compliment notheless! There's no reason why you need to go off on this guy. Would you have done the same if he had said "That's not bad for meters?" Most swimmers around this time of year are swimming short-course yards (I know I am) but will soon be swimming meters. How was he supposed to know? That's why he mentioned SCY, LCM, and SCM.

  • the way the lady speaks pissed me off

  • 1:05 lezak has his fingers apart which is bad techniques and slows you down lol

  • Actually it doesn't slow you down and most world class swimmers have their fingers slightly spread apart.

  • uhhh....fingers apart is what you want you silly newb

  • I hate this persons voice.

  • You can NEEEEVVVER blame a black man incase someone takes it as racist nowadays

  • Oh Cmon you guys grow up. Yes he lost the lead but he is a great ahtlete and it doesnt matter whether he's asian, white, black, or so on. I understand where you are coming from but your taking it way out of context for this.

  • douchbag racism fukin sucks.

I don't see you at the olympics representing your country.

He's the fourth fastest swimmer from a massive nation!

  • hahaha jelaous much??? Hes great get over it!

  • A relay is a 4 men thing. The americans wouldnt have won without Jones or Lezak or anyone of them. Its not a one man event. It's how the quatuor believes in it that will make the different, how each of them will give the best of himself for the team.

  • This girl needs to get out of newyork city. Shes confused on two levels. 1st m rivera never did anything on this level. Last time i check he usualy came in to save a game when the yankees were ahead already. 2nd, michael was doing tha celebrating and yelling before he even got to the wall. She called this all wrong. 3rd the guy before jason lost alot of ground that jason had to make up for, and it was like a body length and a half. 4 i think the french were talking shit before right on tv.

  • sorry but it was not a body length and a half, it was maybe half a body length. and the third swimmer for the French was on fire.. so no matter who swam that third leg(with the exception of Lezak), they would have lost the lead....

  • "Blistering" was the right word to describe the third French leg's time hah!

  • I assume they are talking about China's gymnastics team and whether or not the girls were of age.

  • the descriptions of that race in this video could not have been more mundane.

if you're going to explain how, explain how. splits aren't how. the how is because bernard tightened up when he saw lezak catching him. thus the more bernard tightened up, the slower he went, and the more lezak went faster because he saw how well he was doing. the psychology behind it was how...not this so much.

  • putting the video aside,

lezak went in half a second behind and by the first 50, he was .8 almost a full second behind. At this point bernard had to be feeling great. Lezak did not make a move until the last 15 meters. He sat on bernards wave all the way until that last 15 meters with a great finish. To take nothing away from lezak, i think it was the greatest and most perfect swim i have ever witnessed.

  • yeah, i'm saying that lezak just made a great move. bernard probably figured that since he was already ahead--sprinting the start and making his move then would make lezak feel like crap. in a sprint, it's usually the first guy to make a move that wins. but lezak made his move at exactly the right time--when bernard was starting to get tired. and then the rest of it's already been explained. it's interesting how you can get into someone's head in a race if you swim it correctly.

  • that was crazy.

  • Karen sounds so bored.

  • lol yea zzzzz

  • bernard is a bitch

  • what was Lezak's time for his 100m??

  • 47.67. Miles behind the winner Alain Bernard from France.Infact, there has not been an American to either break the 100m free world record or win Olympic gold since Matt Biondi in 1988.

  • Cheers to Bongo155, couldn't have said it better myself ^^

  • cheers?

    Im assuming your Euro...

"Fancy" having your ass handed to you at beijing?

  • I'm assuming you're a fuckwit ... I was right.

  • you are compaing a country to a continent.

  • EU is about 20 countries you friggin moron. so what 3.5 for each country?

Think of this more, We do not fund these Olympics as much as other countries do, we play baseball, football, and golf. Thats our main source of idealism. Swimming, Running, Track sports are completely UNDERFUNDED, so its amazing that we won so many Golds this year.

    China Cheats...

  • So what if the EU is 20 countries? The populations of Germany,Britain,Italy and France does not even equal that of USA?And yes, the USA does fund swimming, athletetics etc.Ever heard of the NCAA system and the like?In other countries people go to university for an education,in USA you go to uni for sport - your education system subsidises your sport. And real football in Europe is 3756867473473438 times more popular than athletics and swimming. So whats your point, dumbarse?

  • Typical. This commentator failed to mention that Sullivan set (at the time) a world record in the 100m free (leadoff swimmers can do that in relays) of 47.24 (later lowered to 47.05 by Sullivan in the semis of the individual). If it was an American who set the world record im sure this commentator would have spent 16 hours talking about it.

  • Don't be jealous the U.S. is better in pretty much everything than your country.
