The Goons (and specifically Spike Milligan who wrote most of the material, including this song), were as basic an influence to Monty Python as Elvis, Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly (and, perhaps, even the Goons), were to the Beatles.
I agree that the pictures were better with the Goons on radio, but this song will never die. A grateful planet thanks the dear Muppets and Scooterpiety for keeping it alive.
@VaderTime001 The Muppets was very strongly influenced by the Goons, and both Milligan and Sellers had guest shots on the show (seasons 3 and 2, respectively, where this song showed up in season 5), so... (Tellingly, the Muppet Wiki page on the Goon Show is more extensive than those for some of the Muppets.)

Why has it stuck at 34 seconds, and why does YouTube Help direct me to pages consisting of a few dots and circles, a copyright notice, and a dropdown language menu showing Czech as the default option? Sorry, but YouTube hasn't given me any options I can actually access about this problem.

@klomotolop Who asked for your opinion? Learn how to spell "weird", because that's what you are, as well as retarded, stupid, mentally ill, and unable to stop tapping the dot key for no reason..
Why shouldn't I? Yeah, I didn't grow up with them, but that's also because I hated them. Even when I should of liked them, they were annoying to me just like the puppets on sesame st. I'd take shows like Tales from the crypt keeper or Winnie the Pooh any day compared to these guys.
And that's exactly why I said what I did in my earlier comment. I hated the show, but even really bad shows can have moments of genius.
@OneGyT yes, must hate muppets...yes, must hate muppets...yes, must hate muppets...yes, must hate muppets...yes, must hate muppets... (Zombie walks off stage left)
I think that ramzafft1 says it best. This is probably the ultimate expression of 'WTHFB' I have ever experienced; and, while it starts out fairly... somewhat believably for muppets, it just... basically after the 93 comment it starts getting weird, as opposed to just odd, and then it only grows from there. WTH? Big Lipped Alligator Moment indeed!
I dunno, considering how weird Henson's humor was and the fact that The Muppet Show was a variety show that jumped all over the place often, I have a hard time seeing this as a BLAM moment. But then again, I'm just a kid, so what do I know?
looks pretty BLAMtastic to me, at least i shudder to imagine the context in which this sequence is appropriate, precedented and necessary to the plot! that said, its pretty awesome!
Yes, but this isn't in the context of the show. If you are calling it a BLAM, I assume you came here from TVTropes. As in, from the BLAM article. In which case, this is a BLAM because it came from nowhere and it has nothing to do with the article itself. It's all about context.
If he saw that, I bet he would have smiled. I like how they got everything almost verbatim like they did on the original recording, especially the "Take me back to Vienna" bits.
This reminds me of a Monty Python sketch.

A BIG LIPPED ALLIGATOR MOMENT
TVBRobotnikReturns 2 years ago
While the lyrics are completely random, this doesn't qualify as one because this is a skit-based program. That would make every skit a BLAM.
AbsalomPitchingfork 2 years ago 16
True. This and the Cabin Fever song from the movie, Muppet Treasure Island.
TVBRobotnikReturns 2 years ago
Yes, but, would you disagree in that, even for the Muppets, this particular song was way more random than the average skit?
Faethin 2 years ago
Fairly more, ywah.
AbsalomPitchingfork 2 years ago
Yes, but this isn't in the context of the show. If you are calling it a BLAM, I assume you came here from TVTropes. As in, from the BLAM article. In which case, this is a BLAM because it came from nowhere and it has nothing to do with the article itself. It's all about context.
