  • This reminds me of a Monty Python sketch.

  • @corwinorr

The Goons (and specifically Spike Milligan who wrote most of the material, including this song), were as basic an influence to Monty Python as Elvis, Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly (and, perhaps, even the Goons), were to the Beatles.

  • This was great, but the Goons nailed it first.

  • @Fagottron you gotta remix the muppets. that would be epic.

  • I agree that the pictures were better with the Goons on radio, but this song will never die. A grateful planet thanks the dear Muppets and Scooterpiety for keeping it alive.

  • ah.... the Muppets taking off the Goons, who would have thought it?

  • @VaderTime001 The Muppets was very strongly influenced by the Goons, and both Milligan and Sellers had guest shots on the show (seasons 3 and 2, respectively, where this song showed up in season 5), so... (Tellingly, the Muppet Wiki page on the Goon Show is more extensive than those for some of the Muppets.)

  • Wild!

  • Its not as good as the original Goons version :(

  • @monkeymatt2 That was to be expected. But it's a good enough try for people to be happy with it, including me.

  • @monkeymatt2 its not the same without bluebottle is it?

  • @ilikesmayonaise nothings the same without bluebottle

  • the new you tube home page sucks!!

  • Heard this on Prairie Home Companion today. Just had to look it up!

  • @immelio We must have the same radio, I heard it too! Be sure to check the original.

  • I've heard the original, it's still as funny as it ever was. A great tribute

  • Jim Henson and his gang were great comedians. I love this tribute to their predecessors in comic genius. I too would like to pay tribute, but you can't get the wood, you know. .... idle I po

  • whats TVTropes?

  • @JeffZHigs1 TVTropes is a site where literary themes and plot devices may be researched in a manner that makes everybody laugh.

  • ...iddle I po

  • wtf is a TVTropes?

I'm watching this because the goons are classic.

  • just what is the mother singing?

  • the old man in bed is totally peter sellers...

  • Anyone hear this on QI when it was alan davies buzzer noice lol

  • @sailafeva -no missed it.

  • Why has it stuck at 34 seconds, and why does YouTube Help direct me to pages consisting of a few dots and circles, a copyright notice, and a dropdown language menu showing Czech as the default option? Sorry, but YouTube hasn't given me any options I can actually access about this problem.

  • Utter brilliance, what a lasting tribute to the best song ever written.....!!!

  • I played this in the car lous 2 ladies asked me if I was mad I could not stop laffing I just said yes dear I am crazy you got to be in the world it bloody helps

  • Maybe it's because I was a Goon Show fan even as a kid, but this is far from the Muppets best moment

  • good effort

  • WOW that's FUNNY omg...

  • TV Tropes, thank you for the BLAM!

  • omg.. same efect as 30 years ago...

omg..they had this "wierd" thing that caught your attention and your heart...

    god bless jim h.

  • @klomotolop Who asked for your opinion? Learn how to spell "weird", because that's what you are, as well as retarded, stupid, mentally ill, and unable to stop tapping the dot key for no reason..

This video is about your intelligence level.

  • O.o What just happened here?

  • That....actually made me laugh quite hard, despite hating the muppets. XD

    Oh TVTropes, you chose wisely.

  • You shouldn't hate the Muppets.

  • Why shouldn't I? Yeah, I didn't grow up with them, but that's also because I hated them. Even when I should of liked them, they were annoying to me just like the puppets on sesame st. I'd take shows like Tales from the crypt keeper or Winnie the Pooh any day compared to these guys.

And that's exactly why I said what I did in my earlier comment. I hated the show, but even really bad shows can have moments of genius.

  • @OneGyT yes, must hate muppets...yes, must hate muppets...yes, must hate muppets...yes, must hate muppets...yes, must hate muppets... (Zombie walks off stage left)

  • aaah tvtropes, you educate me so much

  • What.

  • my sister nickname is piggy

  • BLAM!

  • Definitely a Big Lipped Alligator Moment...

  • wierd

  • have you lot never heard of spike milligan and the goons

  • Why does this remind me so much of Monty Python's Flying Circus?

  • The Goons, who originated this song are credited with inspiring the Pythons.

  • Two words: British Comedy. And this has been a Big Lipped Alligator Moment.

  • Ah, yes, that's how I found this video as well.

  • And now for something completely different...

  • From the look of the comments, almost everybody watching this is doing so because of TV Tropes

  • Weird, eh?

  • @Elbenzo64 Goon Show fan and advocate here, TV Tropes is all right by me but YouTube browsing is also a viable alternative :3

  • @Elbenzo64 Not me. I'm here because of Prairie Home Companion. :J

  • WOW, WHAT?

  • You've been BLAM'd

  • @Elbenzo64 Big-Lipped Alligator Moment?

  • I think that ramzafft1 says it best. This is probably the ultimate expression of 'WTHFB' I have ever experienced; and, while it starts out fairly... somewhat believably for muppets, it just... basically after the 93 comment it starts getting weird, as opposed to just odd, and then it only grows from there. WTH? Big Lipped Alligator Moment indeed!

  • It's like the ultimate BLAM - the more you watch it, the less sense it makes.

  • Big Lip Alligator'd!

  • What the hell???? XDDDDDDDDD

  • BLAM!

  • Amen to that.

  • SAFE!!

  • Comment removed

  • mwahaha.

    straightforward madness.

  • As a huge Goon fan it's great to see this done be someone else, brought up to date and to a younger audience..

I love this from the heart of my bottom.

    Kieron.

  • LOVE IT! I'm very familiar with the Goons version thanks to Dr. Demento. So awesome they did this on the Muppet Show!

  • I MISSED THIS!!!!

  • I dunno, considering how weird Henson's humor was and the fact that The Muppet Show was a variety show that jumped all over the place often, I have a hard time seeing this as a BLAM moment. But then again, I'm just a kid, so what do I know?

  • That is some quality Big-Lipped Alligator Moment, indeed. =D

    From TVTropes too =3

  • tropers unite!

  • Isn't ying tong iddle-i-po a Goon expression?

  • xD I bet this would have less views if it wasn't on TV tropes.

  • Oh yes.

  • Well, obviously.

Who the hell looks up something called the Ying Tong Song?

  • aye!

looks pretty BLAMtastic to me, at least i shudder to imagine the context in which this sequence is appropriate, precedented and necessary to the plot! that said, its pretty awesome!

  • There isn't really a "plot" to begin with though, since the muppet show in general is just set up to be a mock variety show.

  • Aye.

  • I love these little sidetrips into wackiness. I've learned to just go with them. Embrace the chaos.

  • Oh, and by the way, "aye!"

  • Enjoying it, guys from TVTropes? :)

  • Completely.

  • Aye!

  • fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff-

    aye

  • aye

  • All those who were linked here by TVTropes, say "aye"!

  • uh...wow...BLAM all the way

  • ...The hell?

  • WTF? This BLAM will haunt my dreams...

  • A BIG LIPPED ALLIGATOR MOMENT

  • While the lyrics are completely random, this doesn't qualify as one because this is a skit-based program. That would make every skit a BLAM.

  • True. This and the Cabin Fever song from the movie, Muppet Treasure Island.

  • Yes, but, would you disagree in that, even for the Muppets, this particular song was way more random than the average skit?

  • Fairly more, ywah.

  • Yes, but this isn't in the context of the show. If you are calling it a BLAM, I assume you came here from TVTropes. As in, from the BLAM article. In which case, this is a BLAM because it came from nowhere and it has nothing to do with the article itself. It's all about context.

  • Am I drunk or did my trip go bad?

  • Ladies and gentlemen, please do not panic. Your brains will be returned to you right after this interlude of double-ewe tea eff.

Until then, do not be alarmed. Really. You'll be all right. Well, as long as you didn't eat any of the complementary mints before the show.

    Because...THOSE WEREN'T MINTS!

  • A BIG LIPPED ALIGATOR MOMENT!

  • I hear Bluebottle, but i don't see him.

(Doubly obscure joke referring to Goons and 1983 World Science Fiction Convention.)

  • Wait, WHAT?

  • I'm sorry, what?

  • Oh my GOD, we used to sing this in my 2nd grade music class!

  • WHAT THE ƒ!

  • Pitty it is only half length, still, very fun.

But it is Ying TANG not Tong

  • Sorry old chap, you're wrong, it is Tong. Recorded on the decca label.

  • Oh wow, I wonder if Spike ever saw this (I know he once appeared on the Muppets).

  • If he saw that, I bet he would have smiled. I like how they got everything almost verbatim like they did on the original recording, especially the "Take me back to Vienna" bits.

  • Yeah, it's not like they cut much out. The changing of "bonce" to "bean" isn't too bad a change, either.

  • fantastic nonsense! really made me laugh!

  • jim and the goons were on the same side

  • Nice to see the Muppets having fun with a Goon song :)

  • this reminds of John and Tony and the crew over in saatchi online forums
