  • love this movie..........thanks for uploading....i watched this movie when i was kid but at that time i didnt really understand it,but now when i fully understood, its amazing....wow...wow........

  • This was perhaps the best film of 1973. Today's young people could not relate to it.

  • I've seen this movie so many times. I love this movie. I can't stop watching it. I could watch it over and over. The Day of the Jackal (1973).

  • Finally a full, uncensored version. I only knew the 95 minutes TV version. Thank you so much!

  • Still one of the best films of all time. Edward Fox should have received an Oscar.

  • I want that rifle

  • I can't understand why this was so popular. How did they guess he was behind the window, as well screened as he was? Other than that, it was straightforward, plodding detective work, leading up to a predictable ending, and a lame "twist" epilogue. I even guessed he would get one shot and miss, they made that obvious in the ordering-the-gun scene.

The Devil's Alternative is a much better spy and suspense story, for some reason it was never famous, people like crap better.

  • What a great movie. Especially how the ending comes together. One of my favorites

  • see the picture of jfk on the gun makers table, the year is 1963

  • when the gun maker says will it be a head or body shot...it would'vegiven the game away if he said a nose shot......

  • what i'd like to know is,why didn't the french fight aswell in the second world war......

  • @junkman19571 Your stupidity just baffles me.

  • @junkman19571

The french were like ladies. They surrendered Paris without a shot.

  • How come the Jackal didn't survive a few minor bullet grazes?

  • 2:19:07 How come he is trampolining backwards? I am not understanding this. This is strange indeed and in keeping with the realism of the plot. Where did he get the trampoline and more importantly, why?

  • Just brillient,don't miss it.Thanks.

  • he spent at least one night with the gay man he met at the bath house. They must have had sex, no?

  • Do you think he killed the old gun maker?

  • @Opedanderson No. You can tell. He respected him. He only killed people who tried to double cross him.

  • The 70's was the golden age of film making. If you asked 100 random people for their favorite movies of all time, undoubtedly many would come from that decade.....

  • Awesome old movie, much better than the Bruce Willis one, this one has old style class. Many thanks to the up-loader.

  • brillant well done love this movie haven't seen it in ages thanks to whoever posted this

  • You may have a Peugot of any color so long as it is black.

  • a million thank yous to whom ever took their time to share this FANTASTIC movie with the rest of us....... B R A V O !!!!!!!!!!!! AWESOME X100000

I only hope young folks will watch and enjoy... And not confuse this CLASSIC FILM ...with the cheep and crappy knock off Bruce Wills piece of poop that is often confused...

THIS IS THE real deal ... not ah rea-doo

  • Thank you very much for the upload!

  • I can watch this film hundert times, the hollywood remake is like a bad joke

  • finaly a movie youtube has not taken down

  • Thanks for uploading this...

  • Thanks

I been looking for this movie for a while

  • Perfect! One of the best movie's ever!

  • And most british people wished him luck.

  • That guy is way to posh to play that role.. would have preferred Charles Bronson :-) just imo.

  • @MagicAyrtonforever I agree.

  • Charles DeGaulle was a pompous ass, but he did save France's ass back in 1959.

  • @phtevlin you may call him french instead : )

  • Wonderful. Thanks.

  • raimerez was a fat slob loser ambushed 2 french cops killed women & kids real scumbag got the name cause they found this book in his stuff... 2nd generation jerkoff got kicked out of moscow's patrice lumumba U...

  • missed by that much! :-D

  • When I first saw this movie in the theater I had no idea if De Gaulle was assassinated or not or how he died so this reason alone made my watching the movie even more enjoyable, not knowing whether the Jackal was going to be successful or not. Five star movie.

  • @L0OOOooooOOOOOOOOL --- You can live comfortably without the internet. IP law controls your food.

  • this movie is 11/10 !

I wonder what was Ilich Ramirez Sanchez`s feeling about this movie. :)

He was THE JACKAL back then... :)

  • J'adore se film vraiment et les acteurs sont incroyables la vrais tentative d'assassinat contre le Président De Gaulle

  • WHAT A MOVIE! However... 1) No resemblance between the actor, and Carlos "The Jackal", actualy in jail in France. 2) In the scene of the first meeting with the OAS characters, the Jackal forgets his raincoat. 3) Back in 1992 I went from France into Italy by the Ventimiglia Customs post. Instead of the Italians opening every suitcase, I attempted to show my passport and they told me "Go on, go on, don't stop here!"- 4) It is an old movie, everybody smokes all te time! Thanks for loading it!

  • @Lazarus0357 Good to know that in America of course the military in the 1960's would never have conspired to kill the head of state. . . .woops!

  • @RPenta The difference is that in the USA they succed at the first attempt, most of the times. The OAS attempted to kill De Gaulle some 74092 times, and he died in his bed, of old age. That also tells something about USA and French Security Services, doesn't it? Regards

  • @RPenta And it's sad to know some people are so stupid they actually believe the President of the United States was killed by his own military because some guy made a movie and said so.

  • @tomthefunky And it is sadder to say so many people are so stupid and lazy not to know anything except the official story about that, RFK, MLK, the Vietnam War, Pearl Harbor, the Panama Invasion, the First Gulf War, Waco, the Oklahoma City Bombing, and 911 just to mention a few.

Oh, did I mention the attack on the USS Liberty and the Anthrax Attacks?

  • @RPenta Why stop there? How about the moon landing, crop circles, Area 51, Son Of Sam, and on and on. Did you know the government is putting mind control chemicals in the tap water?

You know what you should do? You should write your manifesto on a big piece of cardboard and stand on a street corner, because essentially the only difference between those people and you is that you have a computer.

  • @tomthefunky And the difference between you and I is that I have a brain and guts.

  • @RPenta Guts? Guts? Yeah, you're a real whistleblower, pal. Woodward and Bernstein have nothing on you. You're a regular Serpico.

  • 2:18 LOL at the MEGA LEAP IN THE AIR when he gets shot hahahahhahahhahahha

  • they took down megaupload, they're gonna have to take down youtube for this sh1t!

  • wow ...came across this movie by chance .... F$CKING EXCELLENT

  • So good

  • I love this movie. But I can't keep wondering what those marches are at the end of the movie. could someone help me out?

  • @liambet The first could be the "Marche Lorraine", the 2nd is "Voila du Boudin", the Foreign Legion most known march. From the cavalry march I got lost, sorry. They are all here in Youtube. Regards

  • I love Espionage/Assassination Films,especially old ones like this,pure class.

  • thanks for posting this wonderful movie

the new one with bruce willis does not even come near this classic

  • Totalitarian societies always had problems in the department of 'provision of culture', so we really shouldn't be surprised at the blatant degradation.

  • It's true they don't make good movies anymore, it's like there's a complete collapse of creativity, ideas, even feeling. Like today's music, entertainment and movies have become loud, aggressive, disturbing, catering to short-attention spanned repressed and intellectually depressed, passive stimuli-junkies. No moods, no culture, no intriguing plots...

I'm watching a lot of movies at the moment & there's little point moving beyond the early 50s-early/mid 90s period...

  • @suddenlyitsobvious you said it all!

  • @5point0

He he he. Always nice to see someone else who's gotten the picture!

  • ...necessary. How on earth would the system manage to retain and expand its control over the collective without controlling and promoting and of course benefitting from crime?

Anyway, I was wondering about the false passport issue, I don't understand how a passport could be obtained from authority under the identity of a deceased person; surely there's feedback between death registers and civil affairs delivering identity papers?

  • Nice movie, though of course it is quite naive to think terrorist organizations are really independent, anarchist cells, operated by an isolated collective of individuals sharing an ideology and an infrastructure for targeted action. OF COURSE organisations like the OAS were in reality set up by the system itself, just like the mob or any other form of organized crime is and always has been ultimately controlled by the powers that be. Such criminal organisations are quite 'useful', not to say...

  • Amazing script by a true espionage expert, Mr Forsyth delivers !!!

  • Thanks for uploading i love this movie

  • Jean Martin, who played Wolenski, played Colonel Mathieu in The Battle Of Algiers.

  • wrecks the alfa romeo?

  • A movie like no other!

  • Thanks for posting this outstanding film. One of the great thrillers from the Golden Age of the 1970s, and Edward Fox's "Jackal" is one of the best performances; very low-key, not exaggerated, yet intense. And Michel Lonsdale's performance as Inspector Lebel also nicely understated and convincing. They just don't make films like this anymore, sad to say.

  • @rlm6213 Totally agree, had to get my girlfriend clued in to this and the odessa file and chinatown etc. Think she loves me all the more for introducing her to these classic films!

  • @rlm6213

Right. I am afraid the today movies are at first for kids and teens - they need an explosion every five seconds, nonsens stunts, car races and a bunch of bikini babes. Popcorn trash...

Fred Zinnemann was an old-school-genius of suspense.

  • @rlm6213 He also had about him, at least in this movie, a menacing sexyness that I like.

  • @rlm6213 You are correct on all accounts.

  • What a splendid movie.

    I never tire of it.

    Thank-you for posting!

  • Wow awesome movie. I love oldies like this shot on film. They have such a great audio/visual quality to them.

  • If Hollywood ever do a remake of this film I will be extremely pissed off.

  • @IDontLiveTodayJH They already did...in 1997 with Bruce Willis as "The Jackal".

  • @vinylrecord68 I'm aware of that film, but the thought of Bruce Willis and Richard Gere in a remake of this movie makes me feel sick.

  • @IDontLiveTodayJH they already have and it is s##t!

  • fuh real

  • Oliver Stone wishes he could of made a movie like this....what an amazing story...Just Amazing.

  • great movie. thanks

  • check out the magazine the Jackal is reading when he picks up the sniper rifle....it

shows a photo of JFK's head.....!!

  • thanks you for the effort it took to load this, good job. The ability to load full movies was taken away from us in most cases

  • I read the movie and watched the book, they are almost the same!

  • wow 1973, I was 69 years old that time!

  • That dude is the same dude in The Name of the Rose 1986...that priest dude!

  • @siliyemoodislam He`s Michael Lonsdale. IMDB is your friend, people.

    Thanks for posting this OP.

  • Thank you for this magnificient movie !!!

  • amazing movie..!!

  • I enjoyed this movie. Those 2 hours and 22 minutes went by fast.

  • Fantastic! Can't believe I never saw this before. All due respect to the remake, the original was/is still better! Thank you for sharing.

  • One of the most gripping movie I've seen in ages.

  • Thanks for posting this - saw the Hollywood remake called The Jackal a few years back but this is far superior to that version. Again thanks for this!

  • Thank you very much for posting this video. Some of us (regardless of the cars we drive) cannot afford Netflix or phones that play Flash content. My Optimus with VM @$35 300/unlimited is my only window to the world and I am very grateful. Your efforts make sitting in a cold little room waiting for my turn so much more bearable. Thank God for You Tube, wifi and YOU!

  • Funny though, Wollenski picks up the mail addressed to Poitier. Sidney Poitier plays in the remake.

  • Just occurred to me: Jackal's awfully trusting of 3 honchos from an org. "riddled w/ informants."

  • Them be some crazy ass high waisted trousers on da Jackal.

  • I was always a fan of Edward Foxes english gentleman act and here he was allowed to play it with a sadistic twist, I dont think he was ever totally utilised as a lead actor really, he had alot of supporting roles in great ensemble performances but this was a rare time he got to star, note the chief of staff played opposite him in Force 10 from Navarone & also the lead french detective was Hugo Drax in James Bonds rather poor Moonraker film, the golden age of 70s Pinewood here, thanx for posting

  • Who played the cop in the movie?

  • from NewIreland

  • Hail Mammoth !!!!!!!!

  • Outstanding movie.. Book even better!

  • what a superb film; one of the best ever and a super overview of so many aspects and minutiae of French daily life and culture; wonderful stuff.

  • Brilliant film. Interesting to note that despite the film being a critical success, it didn't make money, & the reason is quite simple: everything was shot on location in various European cities and that is expensive. But I can't see how they could've done it any other way & had an effective film that was true to the book. I've never met one person who didn't love this film & I'm sure the studio loved it. It just seems paradoxical that a film that's a critical success is a commercial failure.

  • @dzanier Eh Pisano, Your Country has brains, history. The USA has Dopes,we breed them, then put them in dumb wars to make money. The Ruling Elite, are few,the Educated loved the film,as do I.BUT the masses with the KaGing,Cash,Bucks, money, want boobs and killing, and blood, that makes money.

  • It's amazing how "dumbed down" the Bruce Willis remake was. This version is by far the best.

  • it's ironic that Delphine Seyrig died of lung cancer in real life when she's chain smoking here

  • Thanks very much for posting, I enjoyed it. Should be more films on YouTube.

  • at 24: 14...look at the Magazine on the Table....it shows a photo of JFK.....!!

    scary hummmmm !?

  • Great movie, very close to the book. Amazingly precise in small details

  • I admire the eye for detail in this film. Clothing, hairstyles and even the cars are correct for the sixties. The only minus is the fact that even the French are speaking English. When I was travelling through France in '73, it seemed I was the only English speaking person there besides a few Danish tourists.

  • awesome...didn't even notice the 2-hours. :)

  • best classic movie ever!!

  • James Bond gone bad.

  • Fred Zinnemann was a genius.

  • both the fox brothers wonderful actors but this movie here i thin was edward foxs best work beside mutiny on the bounty and never say never again

  • The novel that this absolute classic is based on is 40 years old this month. Frederick Forsyth, we salute you!

  • Thank you, richievegas01, for pointing that out.

  • @CZC899 you rock so hard! i love this film (the remake with bruce willis isn't even worth -- well, i guess i just kinda mentioned it, but you know what i mean) -- thanks for posting ;)

  • Thanks for uploading. That was a ripping yarn with great acting.

  • excellent movie!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fantastic film, had me glued to the monitor for the whole 2 hours 22 mins. Forsythe is a master story teller and the film did him credit. Thank you for posting it.

  • this jackal guy sure didnt worry about std's, i like the woman who was sleeping with the old fart to get info, but good god did you see the size of that muff, didnt any chicks back then trim/shave. ohhhhhh the humanity of it all

  • I absolutely love it. No need to read the novel.

  • Very good movie much better than Hollywood crap sequel

  • One of Forsythes best books.

  • It is true that De Gaulle did not take the death threats seriously enough. He was quoted after one narrow squeak with an exploding car as saying, "C'est une petite plaisantrie" (It is a little joke). He was usually depicted in post-war cartoons as Louis XIV, the Sun King, who had ruled by divine right. I do not forget his very undiplomatic encouragement of the separatists on a visit to Canada: "le Québec libre!" Churchill told him he was "the man of destiny", but couldn't stand his pomposity.

  • Unlike many viewers, I like the Willis/Gere/Poitier remake too, but this is better in several ways. Wasn't the Citroën DS (seen at the beginning) in looks and suspension about the most beautiful car ever? And the suspension was a dream. Having the lines of an extra-terrestrial spaceship, it still looks modern today.

  • belongs in my 5 best movies list of all time ..Fox ..few words, ice -cold...Willis and Gere, simply 2 bad jokes.

  • oh shit i was thinking this was some long trailer, look at it says 2 hours left lol

  • Pretty good movie , just neede more stuff getting blown up.

  • tops the new one is crap

  • He should have killed him

  • From the days when so called "mainstream" movies were made for an intelligent audience. Today the half wit morons would get bored with a story without half the planet getting blown up so this sort of film is relegated to the "fringe" - perhaps it's just as well.

  • @TheVaughan5 That's because when this movie was made, the early 1970s, the IQ of the average filmgoer was likely 20 points higher. This is an excellent film, and one of my favorites.

  • @rlm6213 Actually, the average IQ today is far higher than when this came out, movie-goers today are far more intelligent than when this came out, scientific fact- possibly by as much as 20 points in the other direction! And this never even was a 'mainstream movie' anyway. It is far more likely that a film like this would score better at the box office today than it ever did in the 70s.

  • @rlm6213 The people who back movies today are far more aware of public appetites than they ever have been, yes, they still make shite like transformers but this is also an age where intelligent film makers become household names. Never has filmmaking been as diverse, intelligent and exciting than it is at this moment in time. This is one of my all-time favs btw, not dissing this, but rather the attitude that people and things are dumber now than they were in the past, an attitude founded in fear

  • @rlm6213 Ain't it the truth.

  • @rlm6213

    Flynn effect anybody?

  • @rlm6213 I thing that the film-makers were intent on telling a solid story, and the audience was paying attention to the details as well as the scope.

  • @TheVaughan5 well said!!!

  • What a fantastic film.

  • this movie is a classic

  • at 24;19 there's a photo of jfk on the table: nice touch

  • One of my all time favourites. Have seen it countless times and always seem to find something new each time. Fox is superb and as others have said how refreshing to watch an intelligent script acted out without the need for over the top special effects that add nothing and detract much.

    Thanks for posting.

  • thanks for posting this

  • Great movie, it really holds up well. Thank you,

  • Outstanding film.

  • At 0:00:18 Brilliant, the double cross. When you see that sign, well who can you really trust? Answer, no one. It's a symbol used as far back as the middle ages.

  • Funny thing he was going to be lenient on Bastien-Thiry and just leave him a jail for a few years but that Madame DeGaulle was also fired on; an innocent family happened to be caught in the crossfire; the attempted assasins were not French but Hungarian ex-Foreign Legionaries; and that Bastein-Thiry was not present at the scene but some 2 blocks away signaling the assasins.

  • So nice to watch a movie instead of a special effects contest. I don't bother with most movies anymore because they rely too much on visual aspect, and not enough on story content.

    Thanks for the flick.

  • One of my favorites.

  • Beautifully paced film. Non graphic and minimal dialogue. It stand the test of time.

  • This film couldn't get made now because the Jackal isn't a high school student with a Bieber bowl cut, nor is he part of a popular comic book or computer game franchise, much loved by men of certain age with an attention span of -42 seconds.

  • @tine214 exactly lots of CGI and crap acting no substence I'll take this over anything hollywood has made recently

  • Comment removed

  • @mortifiedGAP Should we Occupy Hollywood? LOL

  • @tybrands yeah I'll get the guns you bring money to pacify the excutives and we togther shall bring glory to the film world again! or possibly just keep watching great old film's you decide

  • @mortifiedGAP

Today the release of a movie like this would not make a ripple while common flotsam rake tens of millions in weeks. There is no point in blaming the Hollywood execs. Despite all the rhetoric you hear, they (like politicians) only give the masses what they want.
