@BGoldtone i try very hard not to be. and whilst i agree with you that guys like weckl are more technically gifted than guys like chad or travis barker, they're admired to the point of worshipping usually cuz of the mainstream styles of the bands they play in, which in themselves are successful because the drums fit perfectly to the song and overall genre. as for the cocky thing, i've never once heard barker, smith, jordison etc claim to be the best. they're just doing what they love

I have seen many musicians who are humble, unpretentious, well known among their peers, are absolutely amazing in their skill level, yet play gigs mostly in small clubs to a few dozen people for lack of getting bigger venues. Why? Because they do't pander to special commercial interests just to make a buck. I saw a "Chickenfoot" vid. where Chad smashed his drums. It was a pointless waste. That pretty much says it all to me! May have worked for Moon but that is pretty lame!
Before they went on tour for "I'm With You", they rehearsed at a place nextdoor to my dad's work. He told me that he had never really appreciated how good Chad was before he heard him even warm up. Damn good drummer.

Chad is much better than Travis, but they are doing something right because their bands lasted longer than many. I just think when u really know how to play drums, it comes down to styles because eventhough Chad and Travis are OK, they still have good chops just we have all been exposed to so much better.
Chad isn't that good, but he's a lot better than Barker... Barker just plays really recklessly and fast, hitting the drums unnecessarily hard as well. I'd say the best is Vinnie Colaiuta; Peart is good, but he's slightly overrated.

He's made several award-winning albums with the Chili Peppers, he's idolized by many young drummers, and he's even played at the Buddy Rich memorial concert. His technique includes speed and power with his hands AND feet, and he can play several different styles of music which he has performed with countless other musicians. I left out a lot of stuff but he is most definitely one of the best.
Top Drummer's: Bonham ( Zeppelin dec.), Moon ( The Who dec.), Smith (RHCP), Baker (Cream), Neal Peart, Beard (ZZtop) .... can't think if any others at the moment.

Chad Smith and Travis Barker are both excellent musicians and iconic drummers. They are both amazing at what they do and have inspired many to become drummers and create music. Still, they don't come any where near the best in the world position :) They both have first class technique and skill but they can't be compared as they are professionals of totally different genres.

Chad is even better than Travis :his technique is better,his style is better...Chad can play a lot of kind of music(jazz,funk,metal,punk)....We can't comparate Chad with Travis...don't say silly things

@cursedswordsman Honestly, it's pretty low of one musician to bash another one. Every drummer has their own groove. So what if it's not your style. For example, I can't stand Bozzio, but I won't say that he sucks because that cat is a total legend. I'm just not a fan of his style. Ya know?

Chad Smith and Travis Barker are both excellent musicians and iconic drummers. They are both amazing at what they do and have inspired many to become drummers and create music. Still, they don't come any where near the best in the world position :) They both have first class technique and skill but they can't be compared as they are professionals of totally different genres.

@TheEdgey89 really? theyre in totally different genres? because smith and barker played many things inluding punk and rock and leaned from some of the same influences including jazz? is that why? they even play hard (except barker tears em up like a little kid) i bet they even got "tensed forearms"...lol.. the only difference in style is that barker plays more rap and "metalish" while smith clearley pwns playing a more funk/alternative rock style.
