  • Anyone know the song?

  • Umm am I the only one who noticed the two-headed baby at @2:16?? O.O officially creeped.

  • quiero suponer que por lo regular le tomaban fotos a los niños. ya que casi no se ven a personas mayores o jovenes muxos niños si se ven

  • for parents to hold their dead child like that must be haert breaking :'( cant believe i've just watched this

  • Estoy impresionado por las fotos donde el cadáver está de pie con los ojos abiertos, es una cosa que me impresiona mucho, y la imagen honesta de la clase que presente una gran cantidad! : D: D de vídeo de todos modos bueno, bien hecho

  • so so sooooooooo sad

  • this is by far the sadest thing have seen in a while. i am thankful for the ability to photograph my loved ones while they are still living, for fonder memories

  • whats the name of this song????????

  • Some cultures still do this. I am black, and it is typical for many black groups to take pictures of their loved one in the casket. I will say that 0:33 made me feel sad.

  • How did they keep their eyes opened

At least 50% of the pics are younger.

    But nice collection.

  • Okay... Pause... Too many children... I can't do this!

  • that creeped me the hell out! and the music did NOT help!

  • Does anyone know the time frame from when they died to the photo's taken ? It would seem to me that the photographer would have to take them within a few hrs. before decay sets in.Also, the little girl in the rocking chair @ 2:46 is absolutely beautiful, very hard to believe she has passed.

  • Go sit next to your dead brother for this photo.....but mom.....GO NOW

  • Theres noo way the pic at 05 is of the Victorian era, the woman's skirt is knee length, more like the 1930 s ?

  • @KevinJKtheman there are some there that aren't even dead possibly pre mortem and some are not Victorian you are correct, People did post mortem photos as late as the 60's and 70's if they were old fashioned.

  • I'm from the mountains of West Virginia and years ago death

was part of everyday living. If a poor family had a child die

from the flu or strep throat they knew their beloved child would

be buried in the ground and they'd never see them again in

human form. So they'd have a picture made before the body

began to decompose, so they could remember what they

looked like. Think you wouldn't forget? Try remembering

someone's face you haven't seen for 20 years without a

    picture! Its not easy.

  • FUK!!! Now I'm going to bed????????? Nahhh, maybe some Three Stooges for a while!

  • how can u tell who died

  • LOOK OUT BEHIND YOU!!!

  • estas fotos son un kuelgue total, fijo que sois todos unos goticos, ajajajajjaja

  • Morir es completamente natural

  • es como ver a la muerte disfrazada de vida :S

  • it's hard to watch this photos, and then realize that they are already dead :/

  • Incredibile..le foto con i cadaveri in posizione eretta o seduta, con il braccio sulla spalla del familiare..che tristezza immane..

  • Thats one way to get the kid to sit still for a photo.

  • The first time I saw a vid like this, I went and hugged my child while he was napping, put my hand on his chest and felt his little heart beating, and listened to him breathe, thankful all the more that he was born, alive and healthy. Makes you appreciate the living, ya know? Thanx.

  • Most of these photos come from the late 1800's or early 1900's. It was not uncommon to have post mortum photos taken, as photos were expensive, and this would end up being the only photo the family had of their dearly departed. This is basic funeral service history.

Common causes of death in that time were things like, Flu, cold, polio, consumption, whooping cough, and a lot of time 'unknown'.

  • Folks collect these post mortem photos and pay good money to obtain them. I can't imagine what the photo at 2:15 would go for at auction, but $756 seems cheap for a collector.

  • how do people think this is intresting im not hating im just speaking out. at least put a song that wont scare the shit out of people this is just plain creepy

  • what were the causes of death to these poor children? some of them look so young!

  • @GC13girl They could have died from any kind of illness such as cholera, diphtheria, or even the common cold.

  • The photo's of people in those coffins bothered me. Especially the children Interesting really interesting thanks

  • I took a photo of my cat when we had him put down (he had a cancerous mass on his liver and he was in pain, I thought it best so he didnt suffer anymore, but it still broke my heart) but I am glad I took a post mortem photo of him, I have lots of him alive but I still wanted it, seeing him sick and a photo of him gone but knowing he was finally at peace after, the photo is a comfort. Still makes me cry though.

  • @poisoncupcake74 I'm sorry . I love cats and had to do the same thing. It bothers you for a while. but at least you were there or knew when it died.

  • uhmmm - you DO realise that some of the pics are living people too? The contraption you show in the beginning was used on live people, because they had to stand VERY still for a very long time. and the pics where you can see the eyes through the eyelids- thats live persons blinking. Just saying this, because alot if you take thoise photos away, the people of that particular age, doesnt seem so... morbid.

  • wow. creepy music didn't help. this made me really sad!

  • fascinating video - i work in a local history archive and we have a few of post-mortem infant photos (when a child only lived a few weeks or less, the parents liked to have something to remember them by), but I've never seen any of older children and adults like you have here - the one of what appears to be brothers, one living and one dead, sitting on a couch together - that's something else!

  • obviously some of the people in the photographs are still alive.

  • How are some of the people standing up?

  • @SuperEmzzzz I was wondering the same thing, but I'm pretty sure the device shown on 0:20 is what was used to stand them up. Freakin' creepy!

  • @TheRalphus666 I know right? I feel scared ...

  • why do some of the (dead) people have their eyes open and some have them closed?

  • @kooky1101 Because when you die you cant close their eyes with your fingers, like in the movies.

  • @TheRalphus666 ohh okay thanks

  • @rjl408

  • Victorian era people did not know much about death and it came from all sides. These pictures show the pain of people who have lost someone just to get a final picture or memory of them even if they are dead. Sad stuff. Books have been written on a subject.

  • that's fuck** creepy

  • how to make the eyes open? i saw the girl in the second photo who was standing had open eyes

  • @Quetta12 They would actually paint eyes on closed lids.

  • @Quetta12 They would actually paint eyes on closed lids.

  • whats the title of the song? lol

  • people were actually holdind dead bodies like the two adults holding the children at the begining of this???

And whats with all the lalala's?

  • Why did people take pics of dead bodies and placed them in a n album SOMEONE ANSWER ME.

  • @tusia750 Because photography was expensive in that time and not everyone could afford it. Post mortem photos were taken so that the family members had a memento of that person's existence, as they most likely did not have a photo of that person while they were alive. It's really not that strange at all.

  • @KeybladeMaster33 its scary and it is strange i hate the old days

  • @tusia750 its neither scary nor strange. enough of you already

  • @yulyu well soz hard im scared of this shit

  • @tusia750 try not to watch any more of these videos.

  • sick im getting out of here with a quickness *POOF*

  • triste pero real excelente musica puedes decirme como se titula por favor???

  • Im going to put one of these together. I found the perfect song with the perfect title..

  • =( poor children. I wonder what would have become of them. Now they are playing in heaven.

  • Why did they opened their eyes?

  • Wow i found this video very creepy but i understand why people used to take these pictures & i think they were right to do so!

  • LALALALAAAAA friggen depressing......O.o

  • The next time you run into one of those people refusing to have their kids inoculated... make the fools watch these type videos.

  • These images are so powerful and heartbreaking. Even though everybody who who was affected by the particular person's passing is long dead, you can you still feel their pain.

  • MUSICS EERIE

  • Thanks for the nightmares. Do you have an address I can send the therapists bills to?

  • Infant pictured at 2:00 looks like a normal, healthy child. Why do you think this is a memento mori pic??

  • @emjjjmiller i agree is does not really fit with the others how they were in formal gowns with draping fabrics and flowers etc.. it looks like a baby pic but like the previous comment this would have been most peoples only photo. idk

  • some of death ppl are hot and sexy

  • Seriously. I was just watching Shaytards. Now I'm here??

  • It's kinda cool, like a permanent memorial and all that, but at the same time....dafuq

  • I don't see how it's disturbing. Momento Mori was frequently the only picture that was taken of someone because of the costs involved. Death is a natural part of life.

  • Creepy ass music yeah I can't watch this at 2:30 in the morning lol

  • Why do I watch this stuff alone in my house at 2:30 AM

  • @TheRalphus666 I do too lol. The music doesn't help either.

  • @TheRalphus666 haha

  • @TheRalphus666 I don't know, and I don't know why I'm watching this at all...what the hell's wrong with me?!

  • @TheRalphus666 Precisely what I am wondering about myself at 0404.

  • @TheRalphus666 You are not alone, I am up at @ a.m. watching this too!

  • All those children were dead? Even all of the children standing with their eyes open?!!!

  • @ZisisBizis when you die its not like the movies where you can close the eyes with your hand.A secret in the funeral home business is they crazy glue the eyes shut

  • @TheRalphus666 cant*

  • i wonder how many times those standing corpes's fell over...that would be creepy

  • HAVE YOU GUYS NOTICED THE FACE ON THE BLACK SHEET RIGHT AT 2:20 TO THE LEFT OF THE GIRLS FACE???!

  • @marthabxtchzz I can't see that? Where?

  • It is a horrible idea to watch this at 2:51 in the morning while you have insomnia.

I am going to have to watch hours of disney clips to get over this.

  • I had to mute this video...music was too creepy for me :s

  • Wait . . .was that a TWO-HEADED BABY!! Absolutely unusual for a Victorian-era pm momento. Fabulous and interesting post,

  • 0:29 is one of my favorites its a little sleeping doll, I would love to have the original in my collection I do not find them creepy at all

  • i think it would be creepy to take a picture with a dead person,no matter who they are

  • Why does everybody have to plagiarize everyone else's work out here.

These are the same 30 photos that everyone else is showing, there are 100 you tube flicks showing the same damn thing.

  • @cowboy6591 everyone of them videos all have a different pm photo.. so.. what.. !! Free entertainment from creative youtubers. get over it..

  • I won't sleep tonight. Why are their eyes open? It's creepy.

  • how do they get them to stand up?

  • Im scared as fuck!

  • Damn it i could not watch so i guess ill just type this comment

my cousin left already so i guess tomorrow ill watch this damn it

i wanna see it but i cant

    should i?

    ....

    ....

    ....

NO NONONONO NONO NONO NONO NON NONO NO

    Merry christmas anyway

  • In Victorian days the death of a child was not unusual. What is interesting is that photography was a kinda new thing then, and families commisioned photographs of their dead children. Mostly because they would be the only photographs of the children and the only way to remember them. I was very moved by the sadness of the parents in the photos.

  • For some reason, I cannot look at the picture at 2:43.... her gaze, odd position and open mouth make the fact that she's dead so much more apparent.

  • Comment removed

  • I really liked the one of the little boy lying next to the pool and you can see his reflection in the water, sad but beautiful. I know a lot of people think these photos are weird, but to me they are artfully done so the family can have a beautiful picture of their loved one they will see no more, till heaven. They are not done rudely or vulgar, but like little art pieces to celebrate the departed life.

  • @ChaosControl1997 I agree. The photographs are fascinating to look at. Nothing weird about it at all.

  • it freaks me out beacuse in some pics u cant tell whos alive and whos dead ..

  • @kellyswild I was thinking the same thing.

  • @kellyswild because cameras where new back in those days, they required a long exposure time. Thus, people who were being photographed had to be very still or else the picture would appear blurry. In some cases however, the living were not very good at sitting still and would look slightly blurry, while the dead look sharper because they do not move. Creepy huh?

  • The Pictures are beautiful in a tragic sense. I think I would rather have the pictures with their eyes closed if I was from back in that time.

  • See how peaceful death is when the body has given up and your no longer attacted to it would more then likely help put some people at rest with the fact that every ones deis and there's NO getting away from it. DEATH IS EVERYWHERE!!! EVERY SECOND OF THE DAY SOMEONE DIES... I believe that when you die you are reborn... EVERY SECOND SOMEONE IS BORN ALSO!!!

  • Death is sad because of the emotion that we have been taught to have with it and the thought that we will no longer see that person in life. Everyone has their own beliefes and feelings on death. (MY THOUGHTS) Personally I think that it is very respectful and loving that they did this with their dead family members. If they where to have continued this threw the years then thoughts about the dead would probably be different and less scary or depressing/sad.

  • This was really depressing !

  • Oh the Victorian era they mourned for years on end (well really only about 2 years!) anyway gosh it is really sad that they put family members next to the dead because they knew it would be the last pic of that person. :(

  • When they posed a live kid with the dead sibling, man I can almost see what they are thinking...and it isnt good.

  • @notlazy69 ?

  • @ 2:01, in the background (upper right-hand corner) of the baby picture, I see an eye and somewhat of a face. Maybe the mother?

p.s. these are some sad photos. Whenever I see dead children pics it breaks my heart.

  • Can you tell me who is the singer. Or the name of the record. It´s a wonderfull piece.

  • wow...some of the dead people are with eyes wide open.... it's scary you know. :(

  • ha hahaa laa la =?well have you lost anywhone???

  • How did a person assemble all these photos? Were they from one area? Were they bought at auction?

  • I think they need to speed this vid up a little more!

  • Haunting , disturbing, morbid but yet strangely soothing and very interesting. Thank you for posting and teaching us a little about such a non talked about topic. I found your work was very respectful.

    Thanks again.

  • how long ago where these pictures takin?

  • @Katie42837 This was a common practice in the Victorian Era so they're around 100 years old if not older.

  • I never got that concept. Why take morbid images of the dead??

  • @CuteMcBeauty I don't know if anyone has ever answered you or not... They took post mortem pictures because photography was not as available as it is today. So they mostly had pictures done a few times in their life. Some, including children, never got their pictures taken until it was too late and they were no longer alive. Especially since children in this era died frequently. Many people wanted a picture of their loved ones to remember them by and it was the only chance they got.

  • Y pensar que esto era visto como algo socialmente aceptado. enfermizo.

  • Viewing these pictures are okay with me..But i don't think i could handle being there when the pictures were being done..mostly with the ones of them sitting up or standing up...Sorry i would have to leave the room

  • The pictures where one sibling has to pose with the dead sibling is creepy, heartless and cruel to that kid. Here kid, your twin brother is dead but it only looks like he fell asleep here! What the hell was wrong with our ancestors?

  • All this time I was wondering what was the tools used in propping the dead up like they did. Thanks.

  • 3 minutes and 6 seconds of lalalalaa.....

  • @sackwhacker I made this video and I can't even watch it because the LA LA music I decided to put in is to overpowering and stomach turning in a depressing way. It is effective though

  • @fartlightbulb BUT THE MUSIC GOES WELL IT SORT OF RESPECTFUL AND EERIE ALL AT ONES MAKES YOU SEE HOW PRECIOUS LIFE IS

  • @sackwhacker

    jajajajajjajjjajajajajjajaja

  • 1:19 - which one died?

  • @ConfusedSponge i think both

  • F you! Super creepy music! Gonna have nightmares tonight!

  • they pan a bit fast, can't even see some of them?

  • Yes, lets pose our living children with the dead ones that probably have something contagious.... fail

  • Manhood = fool...

  • Music is creepy...

  • the saddest one is the one with the dolls I have seen that several times and its so sad.

  • they are from the movie, yes, also in The Other's. but these are real. they just used them in the movies.

  • 0:34 that picture is from a movie... i think its "the haunting in Connecticut" (sorry for mispelling)

  • whatas with the one @ 2:17 looks like a 2 headed baby..

  • ive seen a dead body in real life before, its disturbing =(

  • mostly are kids!?!?!hmmm why??

  • @ZoeyT2000 During the victorian era, most children wouldn't live to see their 10th birthday. They didn't have the vaccines or medicines we have today.

  • @ZoeyT2000 Perche sono i piu delicati!

  • 1:42

AAAGHH THE BITCH IS STARING RIGHT AT ME!!!!!!!!

  • @MiHiVidz she looks the most like Resident Evil of the whole lot...

  • love never stop after the last breath

  • Scary sad! :'(

  • You know, some how i went from watching "always look on the bright side of life" by Monty Python, to this, how? i do not know! 8l

  • Its hard to tell who is alive and who is dead in some of them. Makes it even more creepy

  • This music reminds me of pet semetary

  • scaryy... x(

  • Conjoined twins at 2:14? Creepy as hell at 2:44!!!

  • Conjoined twins at 2:14?

  • como se llama la melodia???

  • it must have been a real comfort.

  • I've gotta stop watching them too. It makes me so sad....but we all die. The ones that are sitting up are making me feel creeped out. Beautiful babies.

  • 1 Peter 1:24 - “All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall.." Looking at these pictures,I cant help but feel that everything we do, our pride, lust, greed, anger etc are all nothing but vanity. Just a chasing after the wind...vanity and vanity...

  • Memento Mori is a lost art in these days.

  • A friend of mine died this week and I can only wonder what he went through as he passed on. I hope and pray it reached a point before death that it wasn't frightening for him.

  • @auaiao9 You'll find out soon enough.

  • all the love in the world to any life that is cut too short. its sad seeing parents holding their descest children, and siblings hugging their brother
