  • I remember this logo appearing on My old CED Videodisc copy of "The Secret Of NIHM"

  • This logo brings back memories! I once had the VHS's for Thunderbirds Are Go and Thunderbird 6, which used this!

  • Yes! I cannot tell you how many times I have heard this!

Only problem is it's always louder than the movie. Many times I have fallen asleep watching a movie to be jolted out of my sleep by a fanfare a big damn lion in my face!

  • This is emeraldviolin1's son. Here's what I want to say about this video: I have this opening jingle on my oringinal VHS tape of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. My favorite movie ever!

  • This logo appears on the james bond tapes from the late 1980s (1987-1988).

  • reminds me of the The Wizard of Oz VHS that I used to have, man I miss my childhood

  • This logo was the 2 1988 VHS of "The Chipmunk Adventure" and "Back To The Future."

  • This Logo Was On My 1990 VHS Of All Dogs Go To Heaven !!!!

  • Begining logo on my VHS tapes of two Judy Garland movies "Little Nellie Kelly" and "Babes in Arms".

  • The jingle was composed by Franz Waxman.

  • @Jal8919536 What film was Waxman's score / jingle from?

  • beginning LOGO of How the Grinch stole Christmas

  • The scariest thing about this logo, is that when you finish watching the Gone with the Wind CAV Laserdisc boxset, with all the bonus features finished, not only this logo appears, but it's followed by SMPTE color bars with a loud 1khz tone.

  • This actually scared me when I was younger, but now I love it!

  • Who is the composer of this logo music?

  • this appears on my VHS copies of "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang", "All Dogs Go to Heaven" and "The Secret of NIMH".

  • I have this on my Rain man VHS.

  • I used to LOVE this logo/jingle when I was a kid. Still do. I remember seeing it on my sister's VHS copy of All Dogs go to Heaven.

  • Reminds me on "Tom & Jerry" and "Pink Panther" xD

  • o3o I remember seeing this on the Tom and Jerry videos we used to rent.

  • On All Dogs Go To Heaven 2 (1989): 1. MGM/UA Home Video Lead-In 2. FBI Warning Screen 3. MGM/UA Home Video Low Tone 4. Previews 5. Dom DeLuise Public Service Announcement (Part 1 Of 2) 6. United Artists Logo (With MGM/UA Communications Byline) 7. First Few Seconds Of Movie 8. Ending 9. Dom DeLuise Public Service Announcement (Part 2 Of 2) 10. Boys & Girls Club Of America Logo (Ending Of The Dom DeLuise Public Service Announcement)

  • secret of nimh man

  • I would just like to add to the growing number of individuals scared by this logo as a kid. I, to this day, still don't understand why I was terrified of this logo, but I was. Maybe it's the silence of the Copyright warning then the sudden blast of the music.

  • I think so too. Oh, well.

  • @someonenow1 god i hated it when that fanfare started...it just jolted you off the ground..i always anticipated it after the copyright..

  • Wrong answer. The Great Mouse Detective was made by Disney, your theory was automatically flawed. Do you have the VHS tape? Look at the side and you'll see the Walt Disney Classic logo.

  • I saw this is "The Wizard of Oz". What year was that VHS with this variation released. Please answer.

  • This was used on a VHS tape of a English dubbed version of Hayao Miyazaki's "The Castle of Cagliostro", a 1992 VHS Tape

  • No it wasn't, the tape you mentioned was by Orion Home Video, NOT MGM/UA home video.

  • Also on "Birdman to Alcatraz" and "Cartoon Moviestars" videos.

  • This scared the hell out of me as a kid, and can you blame me? How would you feel if you were a five year old expecting to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and getting this thing screaming in your face?

  • Leo: What am I supposed to do again?

    Director: Roar, you idiot!

    Leo: Sorry...can't do it.

  • @ddavenport ha! that is funny!

  • I have a few tapes with this logo, one is the Architects of Fear, Moonstruck, The Mechanic, and Red Dawn.

  • The Architects of Fear was part of the Outer Limits series; except this logo has a grayscale variation.

  • as seen on the 1984 vhs of a christmas story.

  • wrong!!!! i have a james bond tape from 1993 with this logo. and others between 1992-1995 with this logo

  • That Logo Was On "The Black Stallion Returns" Video.

  • I saw this on many MGM/UA Home Video promos, "Hang E'm High" and the 1988 VHS of "Moonstruck".

  • This is on a VHS of "Cartoons go to War".

  • wwefrog94, are you out of your mind?!?! The Great Mouse Detective is from Disney. And besides, the July 1992 VHS Copy of the Great Mouse Detective has: Part 1: 1. Green Warnings 2. Aladdin Sneak Preview 3. "Feature Presentation" 4. 1992 Clean Walt Disney Classics Logo 5. Walt Disney Pictures Logo Part 2: 1. Walt Disney Pictures Logo (Silent) 2. The Rescuers Preview 3. "Coming This Fall to Home Video" 4. Beauty and the Beast Preview
  • was this on the terminator?

  • No. That has the 1984 HBO Home Video "Jello Dots" logo.

  • MGM now owns the right to The Terminator.

  • Who does the music? What theme is this from? It's so patriotic!

  • i have this on rain man

  • I also saw the logo on Poltergeist III, I think the 1989 VHS.

  • Don't forget, the 1990 VHS release of All Dogs Go To Heaven.

  • I have seen this on a 1990 VHS of "Poltergeist".

  • I have this ident on "Tom and Jerry Cartoon Festival Vol.2" video from 1987

  • i have a jacket with the logo in to it

    like fine work,

from the oldskool manager from Jean Claude Vandamme

the jacket is from the year 1984

  • Awesome logo and a great fanfare!

  • i love this version

  • This Can Also Be Found On "A Christmas Story".

  • This logo has really catchy music.

  • This is on my VHS copy of All Dogs Go To Heaven.

  • I used to own that movie and it has this, but no United Artists logo. :(

  • Has anyone seen the 1982 MGM/UA Home Video logo that came before this logo 'cause I'd like to see what type of animation and music it had?

  • It's the MGM/CBS logo (1979-1982). Same music different graphics.

  • There is no 1982 MGM/UA Home Video logo. It was first labeled as MGM/CBS until 1983.

  • Wow, this brings back memories of my family renting Blown Away (Jeff Bridges flick), or my brother renting those old Bond movies. And boy do I like that music, I think it should be used in front of the current MGM Pictures logo.

  • I Like this Fanfare Music! I wasn't scared with this one!

  • This logo ended in 1995, not 1993.

  • Someone claimed it ended in 1993 because it's next logo was on The Ultimate Oz laserdisc.

  • Sorry. It ended in 1995.

  • I disagree with this person. I saw the next logo in "The Wizard Of Oz" in the 1993 tape. Now I'm wondering what is the earlier version of that movie with this variation.

  • But replying to myself, I did see this variation in the 1993 VHS version of "Seven Brides of Seven Mens" or whatever it was. So I might be wrong.

  • The movie was Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.

  • accually, December 31, 1992.

  • It's from 1982-1992, not 1983-1995.

  • @icekid1994 look it ending in uk in 1993 and it ending in US in 1995

  • @icekid1994 Actually 1996 was when it ended. I actually have "The Wizard of Oz" on VHS and it was a 1996 released videotape.

  • WHAT NO WAY

  • I Have This Logo on my VHS Tape The Night before Christmas with Tom and Jerry

  • This logo is from 1982, not 1983.

  • Oh, my bad, it's from 1983.

  • I saw this on my VHS copy of "horton hears a who"

  • I think me and GameShowguy are thinking of the same thing.

  • I have this one on the Tom and Jerry (I believe) 40th birthday Special circa 1990. They have a sweet one for a 30 second bumper where the logo itself is standing out, but mini ones are moving diagnollay on the black screen, changing into rainbow colors. Anyone have that video?

  • I remember this logo, it used to terrify me! It still makes me shudder after all this time... (And I'm glad I'm not the only one who was scared by this! ;^^ )

  • The music on this was in stereo, and around 1989 they added an echo to it for Dolby Surround.

  • In addition on some videos, this logo would be seen as a still, with the movie's copyright date at the bottom. The BG was all colorized MGM/UA Home Video logos changing colors as they move down from top right to bottom left, if you know what I'm talking about.

  • You mean the thing that replaces the black screen? I see that all the time on these videos.

  • Well, after THIS particular logo fades to black, the logo that I mentioned (with the colorful BG of MGM/UA logos, sans the lion). Whoever has a clip of this should post it so they know what I'm talking about. Or at least a photo.

  • the first logo jingle I ever saw in my life

  • I think this is on my VHS copy of Clean Slate - the one I bought from the video store for $4.99 in 1998.

  • That ain't scary ALSO!

  • I saw this one at the end of my The Wizard of Oz that had the 1995 MGM Home Video logo at the beginning.

  • If your mentioning the 1993 or 1996 VHS version of "The Wizard of Oz", you are incorrect. The one that I saw in that variation was much earlier.

  • All too familiar. This was on almost every MGM video release I have.

  • man, whenever i watch "Octopussy" or "All Dogs Go To Heaven" this logo used to scare the living shit outta me. ><

  • I like this logo. I've viewed on the Tom & Jerry's "The Cat Concerto" video. And i like so much the music, that i are playing this music on my keyboard.

  • I'm surprised the lion doesn't roar.

  • The MGM/CBS logo is now available on this site.

  • The jingle heard on this logo was also used for CBS Video shown at the end of MGM/CBS video releases.

  • Being reminded, it would be nice if someone can get ahold of the CBS/MGM Home Video logo as well to put up here. I once found it oddly on a release of some Sonny Chiba "Street Fighter" flick that aired on Showtime or someplace that kept the home video logos in for some odd reason.

  • MGM lion zooms out to the "MGM" font text "MGM/UA" as the ribbons drawn with the words "HOME VIDEO" flashes in blue.

  • This one scared me, too!
