Sorry i'm a student in physical therapy (french) and i'm trying to find the way to make a transfert with a board for people who have a c6 paralysis... Do you use one? I used to think that the triceps isn't functionnal...? Sorry for the english =)
Great video, thanks for posting it! I am in a Physical Therapist Assistant program and we're currently learning transfer, bed mobility, and seated trunk stability treatments for traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury patients. Watching videos like this is really helpful. You must have some strong pec and anterior delt muscles to move around like that without triceps. Very awesome.
thanks for showing this informative video. i am currently doing this presentation cases study for a c6 quad patient, I was just wondering if this technique is viable for someone who has no triceps + grade 2 shoulder extension?
i like this video. i'm c6/c6 too and this is definitely helping me. how long did it take you to get this down good and how tall are you?
also, i noticed you aren't wearing a leg bag so when you do your catheters, how do you get your pants buttoned back? i'm having a very hard time with that.
Great video! I am a C5-6 as well, but I use a power wheelchair. However, I use a sliding board and I also keep my shower chair on the opposite side of my bed (queen size) so I can transfer to it. In order for me to sit up in bed, I use a bed rope ladder to pull myself up with my arms.
To get into bed, I put legs up first and cross them then roll in. When I transfer to my chairs I go butt first as well. I was taught to go feet first, but I changed it because I feel safer.
Damn, more power to all of you who are in this or any kind of similar condition. You are all much stronger in spirit than whole crowds of people without any physical limitations.
Nice video. I'm a C 5-6 quad myself. Thanks for sharing. Would be great if you could share with us on our social network for sci's . google "pushrim" you will see "life after injury". Take care :)
Thanks for your demonstration. I'm a C5 having no triceps in both hands. But still find it difficult to transfer to the bed even though i make use of a strap suspending from the ceiling. BTW you dun need to use powered wheelchair?
Thank you for posting this! Very good video. Excellent learning tool for students, as I am a student in an occupational therapy program. Good luck to you and keep up the good work!
God, I have let myself go! My injury was a C5-6 but I have healed as more of a C6-7, I have like half strength triceps. I had my accident four years ago and have become pretty lazy... not good! There is no way I could get in and out of bed myself as I'm not as strong as I could be and I haven't really been watching my diet! I also get a lot of spasms, probably due to lack of exercise, my legs are still rather beefy! Need to start taking care of myself and get more independent... NO EXCUSES! :P
yeah i'm a C6-7 with pretty good triceps; i fucked up my shoulder (bone spur) and have been using my electric. i've since gained a bit of weight, and it didn't take long.
no excuses get back to healthy living(nobody wants to go to bed early!) good luck dude
Excellent video. Have u tried a sliding board? quite inexpensive and almost all insurances cover the cost. Keep it up, the exercise for your arms is a most.
No matter how long it takes, just keep on working your balance and your arms. Trust me, it's more a matter of technic and confidence than a matter of power.
I watched your vids and you have the potential. Use a slide board first and never give up!

thnx for the great vid.
im still learning to do this, my condition is same as yours with grade two triceps in right and grade 1 in left.
I had a question, if you dont mind can you show me how you get up, from lying down flat on your bed to sitting position?
I have no idea how to do this important part. it'll also help me sit up every time i fall from my chair
bikerabhinav 2 years ago
Thanks for your comment.
I manage to pass from lying to sitting position only in bed but it's still difficult.
Even much more difficult on the floor!!! I try as long as possible not to fall from my wheelchair.

@jabouteur what do you mean pass?

you have great core strength, do you have active control of your stomach muscles?
johnmc1982 2 years ago
No, I have neither stomach muscles neither back muscles. It's just the balance that allow me to keep sit.
