@jonesy97 they will be retired in 2012-2013, a large amout of upgrade have been made to increase their life, waiting for rafale F3 enter service. rafale F3 are now in service but not all the pilot have been qualified yet on rafale.

A Nimitz has unlimited operational range, only limited to how much food it can store. It has replenishment ships for open-sea resupply. The Nimitz has more combat aircraft with a more flexible air group.

French and American naval aviators do an outstanding job cross-training on each other's carriers. DeGaulle has landed F-18s and US carriers the Rafales and Super Etendards.
It's a great thing to see allies cross training with each other. We both learn a lot and are better prepared when facing down the real bad guys...

It's good that the French built their own aircraft carrier. It isn't a supercarrier, but hey only one nation has those. It is unfair to compare the de Gaulle to a Niimitz-class carrier. A Nimitz has unlimited operational range, only limited to how much food it can store. It has replenishment ships for open-sea resupply. The Nimitz has more combat aircraft with a more flexible air group.
The de Gaulle does what France needs it to do.It's just not on par with a supercarrier.

Just a friendly reminder that it takes time to mature a Aircraft program. In that respect the Rafale is amazing AC. It is the BEST multi role fighter. As an American tax payer, I just want to known how much we will barrow from China to get just a couple squadrons of F-35s. I work at Raytheon, we know JSF is a pig wlipstick, But its still a pig. Big Props to the french for going it their own way! the QE2 carrier will have cats and Rafale, not $130million F-35s.

French and American naval aviators do an outstanding job cross-training on each other's carriers. DeGaulle has landed F-18s and US carriers the Rafales and Super Etendards.
It's a great thing to see allies cross training with each other. We both learn a lot and are better prepared when facing down the real bad guys...
